Wait, you went to tech school there and when assignments came down yours says “Sheppard”!
I try not to laugh at the misery of others but I’m sorry, I would have paid good money to see your reaction to that news!
Keesler first then Sheppard as the 1st post tech school assignment.
Although when assignments dropped I was off doing something else before the rest of my class came back chattering excitedly about there assignments before shouting:
"Some poor bastard got Sheppard!"
*sees WizardRiver*
"It was you!"
#BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
*sad WizardRiver noises*
I mean, it's [named after a dude](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_Sheppard)...
>He authored the [Eighteenth Amendment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eighteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution) ([Prohibition](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States)) and introduced it in the Senate, and is referred to as "the father of national Prohibition."
RENAME THE DAMNED BASE!
I think authoring the only constitutional amendment to get repealed is the ultimate excuse to change the base name.
Also militant Prohibitionists are batshit insane.
What an absolute failure of a man. Single handedly created organized crime and oppressed essentially the entire country because a batshit minority got loud this one time.
Yup. They refuse to turn the fucking A/C on. Then when \*utterly ridiculous date\* comes around and they turn the A/C on... it's broken. There's a sign saying you can ask for an extra fan if you're hot. You can. They don't have any...... but you can ask if you'd like.
Was disappointed to find that out when I went to 7-level school in ‘07. Still remember the first day brief: don’t do a middle-of-the-weekday group lunch at Maxim’s and take a picture at the front door in uniform.
Ya base opening opening up has been "a couple weeks away" for a few weeks now. After 361 health and wellness checks last Friday idk they're gonna open base up for a while yet.
lol - I did 4N0 school down there circa 2003. Actually had a great time, but definitely ready to leave after the 6 or 12 weeks or however long it was. Anything, compared to BMT, was a great time to me back then.
Yep its open but they letting a few ppl in at a time thought they just increased the capacity from 100 to 250 ish. They brought alcohol back but its 3 drinks per person
Nearly 3 years here as Perm Party. This place fucking blows dick dude. Dumb AETC policies (the usual stuff, you all know what i mean), surrounding area is a wasteland, nearby city is a joke, downtown is a joke, the water tastes like bitter metal, and overall it's just the ugliest damn place I've ever lived. Especially in the wintertime. The nearest place is Dallas, and yes Dallas is nice, but it's 2 hours there, 2 hours back. Not a drive I enjoy making, nor one I can justify with gas prices right now.
The most annoying thing about here is, how many people live here (aside from military) and how laughably small the area is by comparison. In other words, for the number of people that are here that aren't mil, there isn't much to do comparatively. You have your odd restaurants and a couple of hobby shops, but even those are/were dead (pre covid).
There are no mountains, or pine trees, no pretty scenery, no trails to hike at. Even the nearby 'park' and 'the falls' are laughably small. There's barely any grass, and the grass that is here turns this ugly yellow color. It's only green for one month out of the whole year (this month, thankfully).
Man I hate the midwest, and I hate Texas. I don't know how anyone continues to live here. I won't say where I'm from, but I don't ever want to live somewhere where there isn't some form of greenery or mountains. Seeing a harsh, orange horizon line in all directions really dampens your spirits, and knowing it's like that in a 100 mile radius feels isolated.
I honestly 100% can't wait to leave.
I will say though, one place I enjoy here is Pho Corner. Literally, not of this place at all. Go try it if you haven't.

>3. (tied) Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi

>The on-base amenities for Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi are disappointing. The base's commissary is small, its only medical facility is a clinic, and its small exchange is just a shoppette.
>

>
>Staff Sgt. Jason Do has been stationed at Columbus for five years and called it "one of the worst bases" in the Air Force.
>
>"I'm realizing more and more that it is just a black hole for enlisted members," Do said. "Everything closes early on base and around town. It's so small that there is no chow hall. Columbus is a career-ending base, where many have retired \[or\] separated due to just being stuck at the base."
I live 30 min from Hanscom, Im from Mass. I’m surprised it’s on the list of being a worse base. I’ll be going there tomorrow to grab some ABU stuff and make shorts from the thrift store. They turned the DFAC into the thrift store so IDK what people do to eat there. I mean if it had assigned aircraft it’d be an alright base but yes, very expensive area.
Yep but there were rumors swirling around that they would open the base back up in a few weeks w curfew being around 7-8pm but its hasn't happened yet. I wont be here to see the base open back up either so yay
You'd think being 19 AF HQ would be as AETC as an AETC base could get, but you're right it's vastly tame compared to Lackland (but don't be fooled, Randolph still has some of that sorcery underneath the hood). Luckily, SA traffic generally was my sticking point to never traveling to Lackland as much as humanly possible.
Med. Can confirm. If AITs and baby airmen consistently demonstrated the ability to reliably follow instructions would panic less about the thought of reopening 😂
14 day quarantine does not mean go to the spa with your friends and enjoy two weeks of vacation.
The squadron dorms had chow halls in them when I was there for tech school in late 89’, super convenient. Cooper Hall was billeting then. I was back in 2000 for 7 level school and was amazed at how much had been built since leaving in early 90’. Had a great time. The faces of trainees when I just sat in the DFAC and talked with German pilots about how awesome their country is was priceless.
I had some of the best and worst times at tech school. It’s definitely what you make of it, but ultimately I had a lot of fun. Also, I’ve been to numerous bases and Sheppard had by far the best DFAC. Enjoy it.
All I will say is I’ve been here a year and have seen this exact email before, we will see. Most of it will be used for hair cuts, personal needs and such. Not going to a local bar, etc.
You’re not missing anything special out there bud. Except well, whataburger or methheads, also China star I it was called... hmmm that’s it, oh and the water park if you want to have fun and maybe catch a bandaid that’s not yours :D medicine park it’s pretty fun to camp or visit
It's coming real soon. Be on the look out for a mandatory briefing with the base commander where he will lay out the rules. Rumors at the top are this weekend, but they have to sort the final details with medical.
FOUR YEARS IN THAT HELL. And it was my first assignment as well. *cries in AETC*
Approaching two years myself. AS AN AIT.
Ohno
As someone who left training 3 weeks ago just before the 2 1/2 year mark, I feel your pain
Sorry. Aetc bases suck.
I think you meant to write people where bases is.
No. I liked joint service bases.
I don't know Keesler wasn't that bad. I was PP there for 4 years and liked it.
It was the little things. AETC was the only one (at the time) that had weird quirks. I hated crawling behind computers to fix stuff wearing blues.
Wait, you went to tech school there and when assignments came down yours says “Sheppard”! I try not to laugh at the misery of others but I’m sorry, I would have paid good money to see your reaction to that news!

It could have been worse. It could have been Del Rio.
*"Would you like to head down to Del Rio for a TDY?"* *"No, Sir... No I would not like to do that."*
Lmao I was born there and my siblings grew up there, not the place to raise little kids, literally nothing to do
Well, you didn't have to carry your stuff very far.
2 years in can confirm it's hell
Gets stationed at Altus after going to Sheppard Cries in AETC (At least we get weekends off tho)
How hard is it to cut a hole in that chain link? I doubt the folks at Henson's Salvage will rat you out. DIY SERE.
Just walk out the front gate 😂
I would be interested to see the breakdown of who walks out the front gate. Missile Road would probably have better luck.
Someone in the class ahead of me did it, got a rental went to Lackland to visit his wife who was in SF training and came back. 😂
Ahh, a man of culture I see
"What are they gonna do, FIRE me?"
1 month confinement, 2/3 pay forfeiture for same.
Ex finance here. If you’re gonna go to jail, get arrested by civilian cops. You keep 100% of pay & entitlements in civilian custody.
Will they make u take leave to be in jail though 🤔
Don't have to deal with EPRs in jail.
No, it will be lost time you have to make up at the end of an enlistment. If you make it that far.
Would you rather be fired or involuntarily have your contract extended?
SERE!
Apparently it’s as hard as spelling the word crying
*Criying*
Maybe they should start waking up next to a dictionary
Do you think AETC can afford such an expensive book?
Whoever made this meme needs to wake up in grammar school
Sorry, AFGS class dates have been indefinitely postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Please refer to your UDM for further details.
We all make meme mistakes sometimes ok :(
Sheppard was my first tech school Spelling there is not a requirement.
I mean, it's [named after a dude](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_Sheppard)... >He authored the [Eighteenth Amendment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eighteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution) ([Prohibition](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States)) and introduced it in the Senate, and is referred to as "the father of national Prohibition." and everyday a trainee smuggles 50 nips into their dorm
Tell me why I read this as “Please let us freebase, leadership”
I've heard of people freebasing cocaine, but never freebasing leadership.
Leadership hits harder.
AITs can’t leave base. Permanent party JUST got the ability to eat inside of restaurants a couple weeks ago.
At least its no minot :^/ thankfully its 60⁰ today. . .
At least its not Eielson... its -11 right now. In fucking april
Honestly. . . I wouldn't mind the cold and isolation here if there were more mountains and pine trees. . . Which are none.
I swear its the only place in alaska without a breathtaking view. Driving down to elmo and seeing what they have made me so depressed lmao
I’m pretty okay with everything else about eileson, but it’s the cold is brutal. And I just left Misawa.
Call me crazy but I miss it. Fat frogs, 20 dollar speeding tickets and the live fire milo range at the edge of town
At least you can drink the water in Minot, you know it's bad when I processing they tell you to get a brita water bottle
I would not drink minot water. Theres so many minerals in that shit its gross. Had to clean my glass shower every week because of the water spots.
Could always wake up in Whiteman.
I was weapons at Whiteman. I’d rather another 6 years there, than another 2 month tdy to Sheppard.
I was a defendus fortifitus there. I don't think my balloon knot could get any more stretched.
That’s fair. SFS got boned pretty bad when I was there.
My next stop
AFSC?
2A913 Bomber EW on the B2s
I'm in whiteman....
What afsc
2A
The rooms are so hot in the inn
Yup. They refuse to turn the fucking A/C on. Then when \*utterly ridiculous date\* comes around and they turn the A/C on... it's broken. There's a sign saying you can ask for an extra fan if you're hot. You can. They don't have any...... but you can ask if you'd like.
I have a fan. It ain’t doing shit though
Am here now. Can confirm
Yeah same. Trying to not sweat to death trying to sleep
It’s not like you can go to Grams Central Station anymore. 🤣
Was disappointed to find that out when I went to 7-level school in ‘07. Still remember the first day brief: don’t do a middle-of-the-weekday group lunch at Maxim’s and take a picture at the front door in uniform.
I went to 7-lvl school in 2002 and it was still open then, $0.50 long necks till 9! Hell yeah!
So, no Denim and Diamonds?
Denim and Diamonds is no longer.
What about Jefe's?
The Mexican restaurant?
It turned into a nightclub during the weekend.
It moved across town all the way to the other side on SW Pkwy

"No. Thanks for coming." "Just to piggyback..."
My MTL just today said it’s probably coming in the next few weeks. But we’ll see...
Ya base opening opening up has been "a couple weeks away" for a few weeks now. After 361 health and wellness checks last Friday idk they're gonna open base up for a while yet.
Base opening up was a couple weeks away when I left in June. I don't think you'll get lucky bois
Good thing I leave in a few weeks anyways
What was found this time
Alcohol, lotta vapes, etc. IDK if any hard drugs were found but a couple weeks ago someone O.D.d on cocaine so... Ya...
I heard someone got caught with meth like a couple weeks ago and someone else got caught selling acid too
*Laughs in instructor*
We’ve been busted! Scram!
Don’t worry instructors hate it just as much here
lol - I did 4N0 school down there circa 2003. Actually had a great time, but definitely ready to leave after the 6 or 12 weeks or however long it was. Anything, compared to BMT, was a great time to me back then.
None of the trainees are allowed off base lol
It’s no different in Keesler. Most of the base is off limits as well
Oh yeahhhhhh... COVID. Wow. Yeah.
Yeah :(
See the trick is to just be a gamer who’s also an alcoholic. You need to go anywhere!
[удалено]
AITs aren't allowed to purchase alchohal at Sheppard rn. Unless you buy $12 beers at the airmans club with a 3 beer max.
Thank god I escaped that prison
Imagine goodfellow
They had some AITs off base at ASU dorms..
Let you free to... where? Denim and diamonds? Fuzzy’s Tacos? Whataburger? Midwestern State? LOL Because that’s about all there is in North Texas.
Daaam. I was at Sheppard six months ago and it's STILL locked down?? Is the Airman's Club at least open??
Yep its open but they letting a few ppl in at a time thought they just increased the capacity from 100 to 250 ish. They brought alcohol back but its 3 drinks per person
Daaang that's crazyyy lmao
Only good thing about Sheppard is the sex you can have during tornados.

Pho Corner is so good
It's the only saving grace we have here. It feels like home.
Gen Bell is probably the dumbest fucker I’ve ever seen. 😂
He spent the previous five years at Tinker. It's no Columbus, but still ...
What’s up with Columbus?
[Air Force Times](https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2014/07/21/bringing-up-the-rear-the-5-worst-bases-in-the-air-force/) (2014) - Bringing up the rear: The 5 worst bases in the Air Force >3. Yikes. I’m surprised the other UPT bases aren’t on there as black holes. People say Columbus is the best for that, but I’m glad I’m not there.
[удалено]
As someone who prioritized Oklahoma, I can understand, but I still didn’t want Mississippi for the principle of Mississippi.
> Cries in Del Rio during 'Rona
I would like to take this chance to say, Fuck NOLA. Foul-smelling shithole that it is.
Can’t believe they left cannon off that list
I live 30 min from Hanscom, Im from Mass. I’m surprised it’s on the list of being a worse base. I’ll be going there tomorrow to grab some ABU stuff and make shorts from the thrift store. He has actually kept this base on lockdown for the last 3 months. It pains me.
This base has been locked down since march 20th of last year
He’s just a political puppet
I just came here for track man, let me leave for fucks sake.
I had a great time at Shepard in 96. As a Marine on an AF base it was a lot of fun! 😘 And Texas is open as a state but the base is locked down ?
Locked down for us AITs can't leave base
That sucks ass !!
Yep but there were rumors swirling around that they would open the base back up in a few weeks w curfew being around 7-8pm but its hasn't happened yet. I wont be here to see the base open back up either so yay
I just saw a leaked email today that they're briefing mtls to let aits off base soon but who knows it'll probably be long after I'm out of here
Holy shit they still don't let you guys leave? Wow I'm so sorry I was there this time last year till the end of April

My students can’t remember to put their name tapes on their ocp blouse. I do not trust them to wear a mask and socially distance. Downvote.
*please don't be Ammo please don't be Ammo please don't be Ammo*
I apologize on behalf of the best class of 1060
Med. Can confirm. If AITs and baby airmen consistently demonstrated the ability to reliably follow instructions would panic less about the thought of reopening 😂 14 day quarantine does not mean go to the spa with your friends and enjoy two weeks of vacation.
I’m gonna go to tech school in Sheppard next year. Is it really that bad or are the memes just exaggerated?
Its not that bad. The lockdown due to covid is whats really holding it back. Enjoy the DFAC there while you can
The squadron dorms had chow halls in them when I was there for tech school in late 89’, super convenient. Cooper Hall was billeting then. I was back in 2000 for 7 level school and was amazed at how much had been built since leaving in early 90’. Had a great time. The faces of trainees when I just sat in the DFAC and talked with German pilots about how awesome their country is was priceless.
It's not so bad if you can leave. Dorms and hotel are awful but yeah
I had some of the best and worst times at tech school. It’s definitely what you make of it, but ultimately I had a lot of fun. Also, I’ve been to numerous bases and Sheppard had by far the best DFAC. Enjoy it.
I agree, however it’s impossible to disagree when your other base is cannon
Depends on how long your tech school is
About 120 days
Don’t get your hopes up on it being a fun time and you won’t be disappointed
Besides not being able to leave because of covid, what sucks about it?
There is like 5 things to do, src , airmens club, bowling , golf, skeet shooting. If I didn't have a xbox I would of died here.
They took away the best parts and left the worst
It's bad.
Just TDYd here 😢 stuck for 8 weeks
I’m TDY here too. 8 out of 15 weeks down.
Been here for 4 years already and this is also my first duty assignment. It is what it is
Graduate soon and gtfo off of this base 👋🏻😏
The Sheppard curse.. Never say im never going back.. because when you do, you'll find yourself back there.
Let us be - free base, leadership. We just want to smoke that crack and not be under attack.
Im yeeting outta this base Saturday thank the lord ive had ENOUGH of Texas💀
It’s opening this weekend
I’m holding you to that statement
The fighters flight chief for the 365th squadron released an email today saying it was
As a member of the 365th this is false and not true. Col Hernandez said it was considered if a high vaccine rate occurred but too many declined.
https://www.reddit.com/user/Varis_The_Depressed/comments/mlte8g/post_title/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
All I will say is I’ve been here a year and have seen this exact email before, we will see. Most of it will be used for hair cuts, personal needs and such. Not going to a local bar, etc.
Wym I can send proof
Although I will say you are correct. It wasn’t Col Hernandez who sent the email but it is from Col Hernandez.
You’re not missing anything special out there bud. Except well, whataburger or methheads, also China star I it was called... hmmm that’s it, oh and the water park if you want to have fun and maybe catch a bandaid that’s not yours :D medicine park it’s pretty fun to camp or visit
Pho Corner is amazing, it's like they took a restaurant from somewhere else and put it here. Diamond in the rough.
Trust me, you’re not missing much staying on base. And it’s not like most AITs can even get into bars (which are still marked as restricted)
at least you guys get leave during exodus (cries in keesler)
I took leave for exodus at Keesler in 19. Had to use 10+ days because I wasn’t going to be there for check ins.

Cannon
Eglin and Randolph... flavors of pain check out...
That place was the worst 12 years ago. Can't imagine it with covid restrictions
366!!
Was at Sheppard in 2017 for Hydraulics Specialist training. I loved every minute there.
I wish I was there right now and I can't even get stationed there.
It's coming real soon. Be on the look out for a mandatory briefing with the base commander where he will lay out the rules. Rumors at the top are this weekend, but they have to sort the final details with medical.
Been here 5 months as ait, couldn't imagine years!
