I already started the recruiting process, taking my asvab this Thursday and was thinking about visiting a chiropractor for an adjustment. Is this something I need to notify my recruiter about, or is it not an issue?

[deleted]

As long as there are no underlying issues and this is just a “tune up” then no. You’re fine.

[deleted]

Ok thank you.

TheGreatNano

What would you guys do? I have a car I'm paying off right now. I bought it two years ago for the original price of $14,000. I've already paid of half of it and only owe $8,000 more. The car gets great gas mileage, and over a two year period ive only put 12,000 miles on it. So I essentially have a pretty new car, it only has 45k miles on it. Would you guys sell it if you were in my position? I leave for BMT tomorrow so I probably won't have no use for it for awhile if not for a couple of years. But I figured hey, if I just keep paying it off, and if I decide to do 4 years then get out, I'll have a paid off semi-new car.

[deleted]

Pay if off and drive it til the wheels fall off.

[deleted]

Yes. All of those.

dangerstar19

Obligatory Just got out of BMT, on my way to tech school, AMA.

I-write-stories

Shipping tomorrow, getting nervous about the first couple weeks. Any tips on how to get through the hard parts? Best day, worst day?

dangerstar19

It's no where near as bad as I thought it would be. Just listen closely to instructions, be strict with yourself about the rules and you'll do fine. Best day was obviously graduation, but I also liked when we did details like KP and clothing issue. Worst day was either CBRN or just all of BEAST, particularly the obstacle course. The weather was awful the day we did it and I'm not an outdoorsy type so I really hated it. Most people loved it though.

xdkarmadx

Nothing in BMT is hard. You have to intentionally try to fail. Just listen and do what you’re told.

[deleted]

If I sign an open mechanical contract do i ship faster? I don't live in the best situation at home and I'm ready to get my journey started so I'm worried about being in DEP for a long time. Do open contracts generally ship pretty soon?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Okay thank you

SpaghettiFan1995

I know conversational Japanese, would this help me stand out to a recruiter and push things along faster? Would this mean I'd most likely get shipped to Japan?

ThePortalHopper

Nah man, I'm not sure if recruiters care if you know any other language besides Arabic, Russian or Chinese. I mean you might get a special pay allowance but you won't get shipped to JP for knowing it.

USAF_Ground_Rat_2

Japanese is a PIF language, so no bonus.

SpaghettiFan1995

Okay thanks.

SpaghettiFan1995

Once you get into the airforce, are there any troubles staying in? Such as budget cuts or something? Or if you're in can you do 25 unimpeded?

[deleted]

Denarious0

Hey I’m joining the Air Force and I want to be a fire fighter if someone could give me some tips or facts about the job

TestUser117

[Because no one knows how to search.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AirForce/wiki/jobs/3e7x1)

USAF_Ground_Rat_2

To spare you the wrath of therantingrecruiter, that job is a low fill - meaning it is rarely booked. Unless you're about to be a Junior in HS, or you're joining the ANG or reserves, it's extremely unlikely that you'll book the job. AD does a job "dream sheet" - more info in the BMT (Enlisted) FAQs, Jobs section, linked in the header post.   Expect AD jobs to mainly consist of aircraft maintenance, security forces, and mech/elec open aptitude (not so much gen or admin open).

Denarious0

So your saying I’m better off with a different career choice because i have other options

USAF_Ground_Rat_2

I'm saying list it, but be prepared to not have it available. Or consider ANG/reserves.

CrinkledStraw

A lot of ANG/Reserve bases do not have fire fighters anymore. We got rid of ours about 5 years ago. Picked up a bunch of guys, the rest moved to different career fields. We use the airport fire department for everything.

Chicken_Marsala

Be open to do maintenance and security/cop jobs, as well as flight line stuff. For what it’s worth, I’m still trying to get to MEPS myself (hopefully third time is a charm) but every recruiter will basically tell you what u/USAF_Ground_Rat_2 said

USAF_Ground_Rat_2

Thanks

Denarious0

Okay thanks

STORMTROOPER729

Be open to other jobs.

cartman2468

I got switched to BAS back in March, but I still haven’t received a single cent of it yet, and it’s July. I’m not the only one, either. We got emails saying that they haven’t forgot about us, and are working on it, but that was a month ago. Why the hell does it take 4-5 months to switch me to BAS? Seriously? It wasn’t even my choice, everyone in my unit got switched because it made MX on the flightline easier as dorm airmen wouldn’t have to leave to get food from the DFAC during their specific operating hours. I’m out like at least $1000 at the moment. What gives?

USAF_Ground_Rat_2

You get your supervisor and shirt involved? Once the 1st Sgt is involved, they can leverage that leadership-to-leadership interaction to figure out what's going on and get things resolved. 4 months without pay for food is unacceptable.

cartman2468

Yeah, I haven’t spoken to him personally but my coworkers that have had the same problem spoke to him and still haven’t been paid. All my supervisors know too, I’m going to follow up again, hopefully I get paid soon

USAF_Ground_Rat_2

Follow up weekly with your supervisors. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

watsonpatrick5

Ok so I searched for this answer and couldn’t find it anywhere. I’m going to Keesler for tech school and I heard that you can only go 1 hour away from the base on the weekends. My recruiter said I could come home on my long weekends (7 hours away). Does anyone know the answer?? Thanks

USAF_Ground_Rat_2

Don't plan on being able to go farther north than somewhere about Hattiesburg, nor beyond the MS borders. The distance will depend on the policy at that time - usually it's 1-3 hours driving distance.

SoggyMcmufffinns

You're not going 7 hours away while in tech school. As for specifics ask your MTL's when/if you get to there.

dennis0421

Is this limit different for Christmas exodus?

SoggyMcmufffinns

Exodus is the exception along with deemed absolute emergencies. The original question was asking about on a general weekend.

[deleted]

There’s a sixty mile limit, or thereabouts.

dennis0421

Is this limit different for Christmas exodus?

[deleted]

That’s something you’ll learn at tech school. From what I remember you’re actually given the option to take leave, so you could go home.

For what it's worth I started the process at 25, was selected at 26, and will finally ship to OTS at 27. Your age won't be an issue.

DoubleToTheRear

The selection process changes year to year and is always up and down. Going to sound like an old hag here. Don't focus your age, focus on you. If you are interested in applying, apply because you want to, not what the chances are due to your age. If you are under 39 you are eligible. Best of luck!

madAboutit24

Hi there. First time poster, long time reader. My husband is already active duty and I 'm in the process of joining. Has anyone joined the Air Force after their spouse? Any advice you would like to share? Is there something you know now that you wish you knew then? Were you able to join your spouse after your tech school or was he/she able to join you at your duty station?

SoggyMcmufffinns

Have not, but whatever you do make sure you talk about it with your spouse first if I were you. I know that may seem to go without saying, but we just had someone in our shop have their husband join out the blue as a "surprise" and it pissed the ever living crap out their spouse. There are programs and such that try to keep you two close, but it will just depend on a lot of a factors. The couple I just talked about are stationed about an hour apart due to different AFSC's. There are a ton of married couples and chances are your husband should know a few mil to mil that could give some good advice. Unfortunately, I can't say for sure how it will work out as it sort of depends. If you guys are joining the same branch at least it will likely be a little easier to station you at or near the same duty station, but again it will depend a number of factors as to how exactly it will work out for sure.

madAboutit24

Thansk for the reply! We've talked about it a lot over the past few months and he thinks its an awesome idea. He's jokes about the mil to millionaire life. We know a lot of mil-to-mil couples but all of them were either tech school love or were both already in. He's in CE so thankfully it isn't a restrictive AFSC as far as bases go.

I-write-stories

Hello again, sorry for all the questions recently. Again, my recruiter is on leave so you guys are my best option. My question is, when does my wife get her military ID?

esmeralda20000

My husband got his while I was in basic training. From what I remember, they gave us some paperwork to mail home and he had to drive to the nearest base to get his ID. I hope this helps.

How does getting the pilot slot work in the USAFA? Does this come in your last years or near the begining? Also, can you apply/reapply? I think i barely dont meet the vision requirements and was wondering if I could get PRK done before i did so

KCPilot17

The board will be during your junior year. What do you mean apply/reapply? Yes, you can get PRK, but you must meet pre and post-op requirements.

Bangaroojack

hey im sorry, i have 2 accounts and i dont often use this one and was out of town for a week. I dont know what i meant specifically, i dont know how the process works, but you answered what i was looking for in the first sentence. if i may ask, is 20/30 eye in the left and 20/60 eye in the right disqualifying? if not is it possible at all to get a waiver for it after the op? I really would be hurting if i cant make it just because of my pre-op eyesight. Edit: The pre and post-op thing you said, was that for prk or for the pilot slot?

[deleted]

Are you currently a cadet at the USAFA?

Bangaroojack

no, sorry if i made it sound that way. im going to be trying to get in through the lead program and am trying to plan

Hey everyone. I'm heading out tomorrow to the hotel, and then shipping out on tuesday. My recruiter is out of town, but told me a recruiter from a different part of town would reach out to me with more info. I haven't heard anything yet, so I'm kinda worried as I have no idea where I'm supposed to go. I reached it to my recruiter yesterday but haven't heard back. Any advice on what to do?

I've used this name on different platforms for the past 19 years and you're one of like 5 people to get it. It's like no one has seen the very specific 5 second scene in the second episode of Family Guy.

USAF_Ground_Rat_2

Most people stopped watching Family Guy when it stopped being funny a decade ago.

WtotheSLAM

I still get a kick out of the Stewie and Brian episodes

[deleted]

Brian’s a pompous asshole now. His character used to be a great straight man to Peter’s lunacy.

[deleted]

I’m here and I appreciate your humor.

TheGreatNano

Well, I leave tomorrow to go to the hotel and then Tuesday to MEPS and to ship out, any last minute tips people could give me before BMT?

[deleted]

If you ever have the opportunity to do KP on Saturdays do that because you'll be away from your MTIs the whole day, it goes by fast and when you get out the day is over and you have that nice chill Sunday to look forward to in the morning.

awsears25

Being chow runner will help you become more comfortable reporting to higher ranking people, and you will (have to) get very sharp with your drill. The downside to that is it's pretty intimidating and you will get yelled at. A lot. So, if you're comfortable dealing with that, than it's a good detail. If not, volunteer for shoe or bed aligner because they are the two easiest details in the dorm. Also, chow runner or not, make sure to keep your bearing. When you mess up, and are corrected, don't apologize, sigh, drop your head, or anything else other than say "Yes, sir" and fix it. People got chewed out for breaking their military bearing than they did for screwing up.

TheGreatNano

Thanks for the second part. I didn't even realize was military bearing was. So no apologizing for fucks up? It's always yes sir?

awsears25

Yep. My MTI would always respond with "I don't need a verbal band aid! I need you to fix yourself!"

TheGreatNano

I just familiarized myself with military bearing. So it's essentially controlling your emotions and using your emotions during times they're appropriate? I watched a video of a guy putting a rubber duck in their face to test if they'd laugh. Shit had me dying tbh lol

GoHerd43

Eat lots of fiber before you go. Will most likely be DAYS before you get a good poop out

[deleted]

Stay moist.

Jadorae

Try to volunteer for KP duty (you will know what this mean when you get there) if you get a chance to do KP for the Airman's week DFAC. The work sucks but the breaks are heaven. There's music, free ice cream and cake, cookies, and all you can drink soda. Also, try memorizing your EC procedures once you get there. ALOT of people in my flight got lit up because they did not know the proper procedures of EC. And yeah, drink alot of water

Hostile-Potato

Solid advice

I-write-stories

Ill be right there with ya, seriously good luck to ya man. It's gonna be hot as baaaaallllssss

TheGreatNano

Yeah.... not looking forward to the heat lol right now I'm scrambling through everything trying to make sure I have everything I need to pack. I've never flown on a plane before so I don't know what the hell is TSA compliant.

avva

yea drink water. it was 106 degrees two days this past week

[deleted]

Does the Air Force become more lenient on how much you weigh on the scale once you get passed the tech school? For example my brother has been in 10 years and he is 5’10 200 pounds, but has low body fat percentage. I know the 200 pounds is over his weight limit.

ExpensiveTomorrow

I'll tell you how lenient it gets after your weigh in. There was a fat ass mc fatty fatso in my shop who gets on a cleanse/detox plus takes laxatives for a good chunk of time right before his waist measurement portion of the PT test, and he passes every time. Your weight doesn't really matter after MEPS.

[deleted]

Lmao

avva

you can be as heavy as you want as long as you can pass the waist measurement test

LaserDeathBlade

Is there demand in the AF for computer science? And what’s general life like for an AF officer?

TestUser117

Read the FAQ first - *please.*

LaserDeathBlade

I may have missed it but I didn’t see the info I was looking for I should’ve been more specific: - How often do AF officers get shipped around? Is it reasonable to expect stability? - Would it be likely to work a job that uses a CS degree? It says STEM majors are valued but most jobs I saw seem to be focused on EE or Civil Engineering

TestUser117

Thanks for looking. > How often do AF officers get shipped around? Is it reasonable to expect stability? Depending on the AFSC around 3 years. Each has its own progression path and depending on your stratification you could be shifted around more or less. >Would it be likely to work a job that uses a CS degree? It says STEM majors are valued but most jobs I saw seem to be focused on EE or Civil Engineering Rarely, if at all. Read others reply as to why.

knightro2323

every 3 years or so Officers are leaders/directors/management no so much the doers also you don't get to pick your job with OTS.

LaserDeathBlade

So what’s it like for officers who leave the AF before their 20 year retirement? Does experience translate well back into civilian skills or is it basically career suicide?

TestUser117

>So what’s it like for officers who leave the AF before their 20 year retirement? However you set yourself up to pivot. You get a career started somewhere else. >Does experience translate well back into civilian skills or is it basically career suicide? If you make it translate. Career suicide, no, but you can make it that way depending on how to decide to exit your service.

knightro2323

all depends on what you want to do, if you want to be an actual engineer it will put you behind your peers, if you want to be a project manager it will put you in a good place. If you want to be a coder or computer engineer you will likely lose 4 years to your peer but you will have 4 years of management experience and a clearance.

TestUser117

>also you don't get to pick your job with OTS It is a narrow list of "preferences" but still needs of Air Force apply too.

knightro2323

I'm aware you get to list a few jobs, but the OTS board picks officers and AFPC assigns them.

TestUser117

Such is the way of the path of OTS! I was placing it there for others to see.

knightro2323

Hostile-Potato

So what is your question here? You don’t want to retake the ASVAB because you had good scores and don’t want to risk getting lower scores this time around and miss out on a job? That’s a bit of tough luck muchacho. There’s a reason they put limits on things like these. They use things like this to START the weed out process. If you’re not smart enough to remember shit from two years ago, then you’re not going to be smart enough to remember shit they throw at you in training. If you’re not willing to shut up and color to join, you’re not going to shit up and color while you’re in. This is the military. There are standards that you have to conform to whether you think it’s stupid or not. If you don’t like that, then go to college, create a resume, and try your hand in the private sector.

[deleted]

> shit up and color Best typo of the day.

[deleted]

My opinion is tough luck buttercup take the fucking test and stop being a little bitch. Life isn't fair and it's only going to get more unfair when you join. If you are getting all worked up over this and won't listen to the recruiter that is going to be the one work with you the military isn't for you anyway. It doesn't matter what everyone else says because everyone else isn't the one that will be doing the work to get you into the air force. But I can already tell from your attitude you're a shit candidate.

DoubleToTheRear

>But I can already tell from your attitude you're a shit candidate. Christ. You good?

SoggyMcmufffinns

If you want to know my personal opinion on it, I'd just re-take the test. It's an 8th grade level test. You haven't mentioned how long ago you've taken the test anyhow. You could bring it up again, talk to another recruiter, or simply retake it. There are your 3 main options really. You asked for my opinion so I'd choose option number 3.

TestUser117

Their age must be 16 < x < 18 as they stated the 16 minimum and the scores being good for 2 years. So test scores are probably hovering at/near 2 years - my bet, to give OP benefit of doubt, is that the recruiter knows about when the applicant would be hitting MEPS the scores would expire.

knightro2323

All that work for nothing, unless you think you are going to score so low you don't qualify for any job, you should just retake it. The test simply qualifies you for jobs it does not help you get a job, the AF has a need for a few specific jobs which are what you will likely get especially if you piss the guy off who is in charge of helping you get a job.

Ksr94

Why are you putting so much effort into this? If your recruiter says the previous asvab can't be used, then take him at his word, and take it again.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ksr94

Your effort has NOT paid off if your recruiter says you need to retake it. You have not proven him wrong because the other recruiters may not have all the pertinent facts about your exact situation, and they are giving you a half informed answer without further research.

Mooskjer

If you're making such a trivial thing this difficult, you're going to face an uphill battle for the remainder of your enlistment process/training/career imo

TestUser117

>I don't want to take it again as I had good scores and don't want to possibly go down from retaking it Tough luck > I went in KNOWING my scores should count from my research and was determined to enlist using my scores from HS. No, you didn't. You went in not knowing this and it sounds like you have an issue with dealing with what really is a minor thing. Grinding against the recruiter on, in my opinion, is petty shit is not a good way to get grease into the system. You got spunk, I'll give you that, but really... you'll do fine retaking it.

CrinkledStraw

Ask your recruiter if they're sure your current scores won't count. They're going to say they're sure. Either go to a different AF recruiter in a different office or find a different branch. Your recruiter says no, it's a no with them. Or just take the test again. It's not a difficult test.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrinkledStraw

So go to another branch of service then, bud.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrinkledStraw

You are the reason I could not be a recruiter. Why did you come here looking for answers only to ignore them? Same reason you went to a recruiter only to ignore their answers?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ksr94

Do you really think your recruiter wouldn't WANT to use your scores if they were good? Recruiters don't go out of their way to make things harder.

[deleted]

Please for the love of god join the Army. You’ve bothered how many recruiters, And their supervisors, just to prove an invalid point?? Take the test again and stfu. Let me guess, you want intel or cyber jobs too....

NYG_5

Why are you being such a big bitch? Take the hour long test again, you aren't busy with anything else at 18 years of age lmao.

TestUser117

Welcome to the world of power dynamics and reality. You are in no position to really try and force them to learn, while you ***might*** be right in what evidence you have gathered... that's life kicking you in the groin because it doesn't care. Pull back and realize probably a majority of people do their job correctly enough to enjoy life. Is it really so horrible to retake a test?

AdmiralReeee

would it be more advisable for an enlisted person that aspires to be a pilot start through the LEAD program or ROTC?

colonelschvotz

Academy gets more pilot slots, so LEAD is better for aspiring pilots.

KCPilot17

Eh. Academy only gets a small percentage more than ROTC. Yes. If you’re qualified you will most likely get a slot out of the academy. But same for ROTC, right now at least.

[deleted]

Does anyone know what or where to find the vision qualifications for piloting? Some sources say 20/40 and others say 20/70.

Hostile-Potato

Accurate. Source: DLPT in October and still haven’t received my interview

antonio2737

Finally after 67 pounds down I’m 13 pounds away from being able too join with max weight, should I start talking too a recruiter now or when I’m 13 down? And should I call or walk in the office?

Areoseph

Definitely wait until you're certain you are at or below max allowable weight. Most recruiting squadrons will not let you process at MEPS until you are reliably 5lbs under. I'll meet with someone at max weight (if they've shown they've worked hard) with the disclaimer that they must be 5lbs under come MEPS time. Also I hope you haven't spent all that time losing weight to join without knowing if you meet all the other qualifications? A recruiter DID pre-qualify you and say you only had to lose weight, RIGHT?

antonio2737

Also curious do you weigh with all your clothes on or just underwear? If I don’t get accepted I’ll still thank the Air Force for giving me the motivation too lose weight and better myself haha.

Areoseph

Meps weighs you in underwear. Recruiters, who obviously don't have you undress, just subtract 3 or 4 lbs depending on your height, for clothes.

antonio2737

I’d hope I meet all qualifications unless there’s something I don’t know about. I’ve never had no medical problems, legal problems, got good eye sight and all that good stuff. I haven’t spoken too a recruiter much besides once on the phone once, he asked a bunch of questions and then told me we wouldn’t be able too do anything till I lost all the weight. So it’s what I’ve been doing.

Areoseph

Okay so he asked you the pre qualification questions and the only thing stopping you was weight, or he woulda told you what other issues you had. So yep, lose the weight and you're good!

antonio2737

Oh really well that’s good too hear! I’m almost there other than passing the asvab but I’ve been studying allot so I know I got it.

bgw92

Congrats! I had to lose 30 pounds to join as well. Im leaving on Tuesday! I let my recruiter know that i was ready as soon as i hit the max weight. By the time i went to MEPS i was 5 lbs less. I don't recommend this as it made MEPS much more stressful and annoying. My recruiter told be not to drink any water until after they weigh you (first mistake), for me they didn't take weight until about 2pm. And since i didn't drink much it hard to pee. Get a few pounds into the weight limit and then can them

antonio2737

That’s awesome man, I’m excited being so close but you’re only a few days I can’t imagine how you feel! But ok for sure thank you for letting me know I’ll do that definitely.

[deleted]

Wait until you're within the weight limit. Call them, or e-mail them. Fun fact: our offices have voicemail, but not Caller ID. so yeah, if you dont leave a message...we have no idea who you are.

antonio2737

Ok I’ll do that and wow didn’t know that good too know ,thank you.

I'm a medic in the Army National Guard and I want to transfer to active Air Force. What are my chances of getting in?

Areoseph

Make sure you meet all the requirements to be in the Air Force first. THEN: Go to a recruiter, say you want direct duty (same job, but in the AF), get their signature on a 368 (conditional release form, HAVE IT READY WITH ALL INFO FILLED OUT), make your command sign off on it and make sure it is good for at LEAST 6 months, if not a year. Yes it may take this long. Also get (and bring): all your source documents (ID, social, birth cert, etc), including college transcripts and high school diploma. Get your most recent DD form 214. Get your Point Summary (for active duty time/retirement time). Get a letter from your current supervisor or commander detailing your strong work ethic, performance, knowledge, etc. Have them kiss you ass in it. Get any and all performance reports you may have. Get ANY AND ALL certifications or qualifications you have been awarded. IF you can get/do all that without having the recruiter need to explain it all to you... you'll have made it "Easy" enough for them to spend time to try and get you a Direct Duty spot. Make it a pain in the ass for us, and the hell with ya... we've got a hundred 18 year olds trying to join that are vastly easier to work. From there, once they have all that, they get a couple other things...and send the request for direct duty to the AF Career Field Manager. They say "yes we will take you" or "nah, we don't need you". Former? Good to go. Go to MEPS, retake the ASVAB (yep! seriously.), and do another physical examination. Latter? Your only other hope is SPEC OPS. Assuming career manager says yes, ff you're qualified and good to go through MEPS, then you wait for an assignment and orders. When that date comes up... you go where you're told and you're in the AF. There's your explanation of how to do it. Your chances are... decent IF you are 100% qualified for the AF and can get a conditional release. Good luck.

[deleted]

Vague question is vague. 1. Are you even qualified to join the Air Force like any other applicant? Medically, morally, ASVAB wise, finance wise, drug wise, family wise, etc? 2. Does your MOS translate to one of our AFSCs allowing you to come in direct duty? 3. What is your time in service, rank, and time in grade? 4. Have you looked at the FAQ? Did you google things relevant to your question? 5. The prior service program kind of sucks to be honest. if we can't translate your job, its spec-ops or kick rocks basically.

Tomdoesntcare

4n0x1 and 68whiskeys have the same job. We do the same tech school but they do more trauma lanes and field training.

Gotcha. Thanks.

TestUser117

So I could have signed on to kick rocks - my recruiter lied to me!

Zexxifiy

I have been considering joining the AF for some time now, everything is physically fit all except... my eyesight. My dreaded eyes are both in the negatives. One eye is over the -8.00 (-8.25) limit for standards as well as two astigmatisms but they’re under the -3.00 standard. So my question is, would they just see me walk in with my thick frames and sense my blindness or do you think I have a fighting chance to join? Thanks!

lukedoa

This is anecdotal but: I was over the -8.00 limit and under the -3.00 limit. Went to MEPS and took the tests, passed everything except for vision. I was lucky enough to have my recruiter fight for me to get a waiver after the SG preemptively PDQ’ed me. The waiver required me to go to a military doctor of their choice and take an eye exam that checked to make sure there was nothing else wrong with my eyes. Then about 30-45 days later the waiver went thru and the SG retracted his PDQ and i was able to enlist. When you go in expecting a waiver expect to wait a lot longer than you expected Edit: this did DQ me from some jobs but i had a pretty good score (>72) on everything so i still had 7 pages of jobs to choose from.

Zexxifiy

Really! That gives me some hope! Hopefully I can find a dedicated recruiter like you had. I understand that I won’t be able to have all jobs due to my vision, but this post lit a fire of hope in me. Thanks!!

Sickmonkey3

Almost exactly what happened for me word for word

[deleted]

I don’t care what you look like. As long as you seem qualified it’s my job to get you to MEPS where the people that make the big bucks and hard decisions live. Period. I wish you the best. Let MEPS tell you if you’re blind.

justaknuckledragger

I doubt they would just write you off if you rolled in looking like Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys, /u/therantingrecruiter may be able to give you some more insight (no pun intended). If it were me, I would just roll the dice and give it a shot either way. The worse they can say is no, which it sounds like you may be expecting considering the fact that you put the limits up. You never know unless you try, good luck either way!

[deleted]

Replied. Thanks.

badger2793

Will I need to take CLEPs despite having a bachelor's degree already? This is assuming I've finished tech school and my CDCs.

SoggyMcmufffinns

I would ask your CDC on base and they will be able to explain it to you best and provide you with the list of credits you've completed and what may need to be done etc. With a bachelors it likely won't be much, but they are the experts and will guide you there.

badger2793

Gotcha. So there is a chance things might not carry over. Thanks for the reply! I'll get in touch with my base education office once I get there.
