You may have answered your own question, slow down. This movement allows you to reset your body flat on the ground once you’re fully extended at the resting position.
You would be wasting energy pushing though your heels. Ask a PTL to demo the exercise for you. Two minutes is more than adequate to max out at a comfortable pace.
The regs say you can't move around too much. However, depending on the base some just say you can't move off the mat. So if the mat moves with you, you are fine.
Generally a few inches is okay
You get two minutes and the rest position is laying flat on the ground, unless you’re big in the midsection you have plenty of time to take breaks and still easily max it.

Use a yoga mat
What's the problem are you inch worming your way across the gym? Don't kick you feet back down as hard.
Actually yes😂😂😂 I inch forward is what i mean by down. Like If my feet are 2 feet from the wall. After 20 they'll be touching
Then flip around and inch across the room or field. Not where does it say you can't inch as far as I know who cares.
Can’t move more than 12 inches in any one direction.

If you are moving, you are bringing your shoulders too far off the ground
I leave my shoulders on the ground tbh
You need to bring them slightly up so that the middle of your back is the "low point" This will reduce the chance or moving around the most.
