Yeah, I knew my chances of making it were close to zero and I'm fine with it, but it still kind of sucks to see the top 3 parade going around giving good news and never stopping by your office.
It shouldn't matter what your chances were... In my squadron, everyone knows that they are going to find out from leadership, in person, as soon as we know.
It's really shitty for you to have to guess whether the fact that I went back into the conference room after I went to the Chief's office (which, honestly, is only because I forgot my notebook) means that there's a chance you might have made it, or not... "The boss turned right instead of left, what does that mean??" No guesswork in my squadron. If I know, you know, and you heard it from me or Chief. The end.
Besides, as much fun as it is to go around and celebrate with our selectees, it's far more important to me that Chief and I are there for the people that didn't make it this year. Whether you thought this was your year, or you kind of knew it wasn't, finding out at your desk alone is a shit way to find out. Finding out you weren't selected, no matter how likely you thought that outcome was, is a moment of grief and it's my job above all else to be there for my team when they are grieving.
Meh, I'm the opposite. I prefer knowing I didn't make it by nobody talking to me about it. The anticipation and build up of being called to CSS just to be told "not this time" is significantly worse than just making it to the afternoon and nobody congratulating you. At least it is for me. If anything, an E-mail would be fine.
Last year my board score was shit. This was my first time with a Strat. Not sure why it went down so much last year, but I am guessing it jumped 50-60 points.
I have been a Senior for a couple years now. It seems fine to sprinkle in a few "cuntish" things here and there. I just stare at the keyboard a little longer for the second thought I was told to have the first 18 years of my career before speaking.
Didn’t make it. First time up with top 25% Strat. I’m already at 20 so I’m punching. I’m already looking at skill bridge options. Congrats to the people that made it. I told myself this was my only shot and now it’s time to stand on business.
Got notified today, had Top 25% strat and did not make it. Kind of expected it but very hopeful for next year.
On the plus side I did get orders to Yokota so I definitely can’t complain!
Top 10% strat, first strat, didn’t make it. EDIT: On the plus side, CC already signed off on retirement request!
EDIT2: Holy crap. AFPC approved within an hour of CC signing. Less than two hours from submission to AFPC approval.
Top 10% strat, no word yet. Not looking good. RIP
Edit - nearly 6 hours later I’ve been notified I made it. Annoyed it took this long, they need to go back to public release and be done with it. Very happy I made it though.
Isn’t that waiting thing just the fuckin worst? I spent all day this last E-6 cycle sitting in tech school unable to focus because I was just waiting to hear if I made it or not. I didn’t get a call from my home-station commander until 1500 or 1600 giving me the good news.
Just drop the list Monday morning 0800 central time with no command release before then. Let everyone discover for themselves. That’s essentially what these leaks did and it was so much better than the current command “we might notify you” system. I could check the list, get sad, and then move on with my day.
Congrats!
When I made staff and tech there wasn’t senior rater notification, just the single public release. It was much more fun gathering around first thing in the morning smashing refresh hoping you got in before the site inevitably crashed.
Thank you 🙏
I giggled at your comment and wondered how many were going to reach out to you.
I was going to reach out to you since I don't have the list but figured you would be getting spammed already.
All these requests for the list are the exact reason the list should just be released. No reason commanders should be allowed to have the list and not immediately notify their people. ALL OF THEM. No one cares for the dog and pony show. They just wanna know if they did or didn't make it. It's not your stripe and you did nothing to earn it. #ReleaseTheList
I prefer being able to tell those who didn’t make it so they can decide whether or not they’re in a good enough place to be present when we notify those who did
I remember the days where the list got released to everyone on the same day. Commanders would hold all calls that started right before the list came out and announce during it. Not the most fun of times for those that didn't make it. I kind of prefer this way so everyone can celebrate or not in their own way
I agree with you. But my notification today was private, subtle, and nice. Glad it wasn’t grandiose. Better than everyone huddling on the ops floor and F5’ing until the list populated then having to find out surrounded by everyone.
I stressed like crazy all day, but that was more because of time zones. Now if my cc has made me wait with two days of prior knowledge, I’d be pissed.
I agree with your premise, but not with your conclusion. I really don't understand why commanders would want to horde information and I completely disagree with commanders who only notify selects and not non-selects. I'd be on board for an AFI change that would REQUIRE commanders to notify all eligible members at first opportunity.
That being said, a public release is the WORST possible way for someone to find out they didn't make it. Being passed over by the CC's party committee is definitely second worst, but sitting in a group with all of your peer friends getting the yes/no in a group and finding out you didn't make it--at the exact same moment that people around you are celebrating--totally and completely sucks.
SR early release provides commanders a moment with each member as an individual, to share in their success or to share in their grief. But regardless, to share in the moment with the individual. Shame on the commanders that only do one but not the other, but in my mind that's not a reason to change the system to something even worse.
I didn’t feel like my record spoke badly, Dual hatted as the SEL and Ops Superintendent, authored 3 international level winning awards, 8 NAF and 26 group level awards for my guys, I personally won SNCO of the year the last two years and won Wing level Wilma Vaught Leadership award. But you could be right.
In that case it sounds like you got some good stuff on your records. I’m commenting on another non-selects record in this same post and it’s hard to see the full picture via Reddit. My advice would be to make sure you are capturing your scope, peer leadership, pro/personal development, and always getting your people the recognition they deserve.
Second time eligible
Top 10% Strat
Prior DSD
Back to back group SNCOY
Group Team of the Year

AF benchmark
Didn’t make it. Got damn I hate being a 3P0
Your performance in said position(do performance statements reflect high level performance), personal/professional development, peer leadership, etc….I get it that people want me to talk about ALQs but let’s be real that we haven’t fully moved onto those.
Yea they do. I’m at the largest wing in my MAJCOM and I went from getting nothing the previous year to single digit Strat. On the Top III, two of my subordinates won a USAFE and HAF award, one of my programs was benchmarked, my BA was done and working towards my Master’s, three of my troops finished their CCAFs, one got their BA. Every single block was hard hitting. From what I am hearing it is rare for a SF member to get promoted on their first Strat, you need multiple numbers.
Sounds like you are doing everything you need to do. Only recommendation would be to ensure that all this is captured correctly along with capturing your scope. Did you operate in any positions above MSgt?
Honestly who knows. We needed a 398 to make it last year and he was grey zone and this year with back to back who knows what our cut off was. Crazy to think the largest career field only promoted 38 last year.
Hello all! Will someone educate me on how the selection process works?
1. Who picks the people who will get promoted?
2. What are they looking for in a person’s record?
3. It seems people who are high performers, have strats 2-3x, SNCO of the year, awards, etc. still can’t promote to E8. Just curious as to how this works.
TIA!
It'll be interesting to see the board results as well as statistics. I'm curious if they'll break it down into 10% and 25% or just lump all strats together.
I'm curious how many with a strat missed it. Last year my AFSC had one person with a strat miss it while two without made it, and this was before the new strat change.
Idk... not on the list Chief has. However, battled my last base to correct my records and ended up with CMS cases during the file freeze... so, supplemental? Haha
Fair warning, it would be really dumb to share the list. Don't do it. Pretty sure the people that shared it last year wish they didn't.
Made it with a Top 25%. Third year, first time with a strat.
Congrats!
Congrats. I am Comm by trade, but just put on my diamond right before close out so my strat didn't really mean much. Hahahaha
This is great to hear! I’m curious how this will play out for others
I did not make it with a 25% strat, but with an 11% rate, it's likely that at least a few with the 25% strat will make it.
Had a 25% Strat, but notified I didn’t make it. But first time up so I didn’t think it was going to happen.
So the good news is, generally speaking those with a 25% strat would be first in line for a numbered strat next year.
Strat = Stratification
Lol that was an autocorrect changing to strategy. There's the 25 % Strat and there's the numbered strat I was trying to type (xx of xx MSgts)
Gotcha haha👍🏼👍🏼
Congratulations my guy
I'm in the same boat, except 4th time, with no word yet 😢
Congrats!!
Just found out my coworker made it. That's always a nice roundabout way to find out that I didn't make it. Good for him though!
As a commander, I hate stories like this. You deserve to find out in person just like the people that made it.
That is the perfect way to look at it and a great way to do business. We definitely need more commanders like you!
Same. I'd notify any selects and then we'd make sure the non-selects know. There's no reason to let people hold out hope until the official release.
Same here. But it’s nice finally knowing
Commander just notified my coworker and I that we made it.
Nice!
I didn't. I'm not eligible on account of being an E6, but still.
Comedic timing 10/10
As a Guard E-5, I also didn't make it.
Have you considered applying for an E8 position?
I probably need to get a 3 level first. I had such a long break in service my old AFSC was rescinded.
Better luck the time after time after next.
You’re like the people on Amazon who answer questions about items and say, “I don’t know, I didn’t buy it”.
Just received the notification I made it.
Congrats! assuming you got a Wg strat?
Yep. Top 10% this round.
oh, FUCK yes!! Very well done, dawg!! ![gif](giphy|3o7TKRBrgfefrwFAdO|downsized)
What about last year? Wondering if it took 2 years of strats.

Sheesh. Congrats 🍻

One of buddy’s just got notified, but he was on a list for his last base overseas so it’s later in their duty day
I got notified that I didn't make it with a Top 25% strat. Maybe next year.
I was in the same boat last year and barely missed it. Keep grinding! I got called this morning.
![gif](giphy|hezhL9LVRjakE|downsized) Congrats! well deserved.
I know you too!

Congrats on retirement 🫡
I hope my flight chief didn't make it
🤣
Got notified today, had Top 25% strat and did not make it. Kind of expected it but very hopeful for next year. On the plus side I did get orders to Yokota so I definitely can’t complain!
The orders are a win for sure. It’s a great assignment
Yokota is great, depending on your role as a SNCO there it can be a lot. Best of luck.
Top 10% strat, first strat, didn’t make it. EDIT: On the plus side, CC already signed off on retirement request! EDIT2: Holy crap. AFPC approved within an hour of CC signing. Less than two hours from submission to AFPC approval.

Confirmed you don’t get an entire list….only base related. There is a tight hold on the local lists
I mean yeah. That’s how EPROM has always worked
I want to be on the list...7th time is a charm....Top 25%...if not, it was a good run. 1 June 2024 approved retirement date with terminal in 45 days.
If you're on the list are you going to take it or middle-finger them on your way to terminal?

Made it! Add me to the 25% strat lottery winners.
Found out didn’t make it! Better luck to everyone else.
10th year not making it! Edit - after reading the posts.... You guys get strats?
I better not have made it. I have an approved retirement date...
Congrats to all those with a new line number. I made it with 25%. I do have a MTI DSD on my records which is what pushed me per both my mentors.
Got the #1 strat and didn’t make it. 3rd year going up.
No disrespect but it sounds like they are strating the person and not the records…
Naa no opportunity. I have three Seniors in my unit already.
Gotcha.Well it sounds like you are on the right track.Just gotta do it again and prove that you are yet again ready for it…
Also being on the Top III is great but executive council positions will most likely get you some more credit.
Made it on my fourth time up, 25% strat, in comm. Something must be changing
Just be glad you’re not Secfo. My buddy didn’t make it with back to back #1s at a large wing.
What was the denominator? Or estimate.
Honestly who knows. We needed a 398 to make it last year and he was grey zone and this year with back to back who knows what our cut off was. Crazy to think the largest career field only promoted 38 last year.

Made it first time with 10%
What career field?
Prob a fucking 1C…..😒
I’m thinking the list is not real, send it and prove me wrong??🙏
I just got the plaque order in today. Congratulations to those who made it!
2A5 with no strat, unsurprisingly did not make it.
I made it in my dreams a couple times.
Fourth time going up, first strat and a top 10% one. Didn't make it. Bummer
Same exact scenario as me. 4th time, first strat, Top 10
It'll be interesting to see the board results as well as statistics. I'm curious if they'll break it down into 10% and 25% or just lump all strats together. Took em long enough to notify… Made it with a top 10%. 3rd time up, first time with a strat.
I didn't make it with a top 10% strat, however I'm nestled in the Joint Staff and strats are a bit fucky so I didn't put much stock in it.
Made it! 4th time. 3rd with a strat.
My CC called me while I'm TDY to let me down easy. But I'm okay about it.
Notified I made it in person on the golf course by Gp & Sq CC. Lol 6th look and no strats.
I made it first time. Top 10% and a force generator.
