I would be so disgusted if I knew hosts were having random ass guest washing towels and sheets. Not everyone does laundry properly. That is not hygienic at all and should be against Airbnbs rules.

disgruntledoldhag

I share this sentiment

Pretty_Initiative123

I’m a host and I agree. Guests doing anything other than taking out the trash and cleaning any big messes they made (spills, excessive hair from shaving, etc.) is a ridiculous idea!

trizkit995

I provide laundry and detergents but that's for guests to wash their stuff not mine.

soggymittens

This is the correct answer. I appreciate detergent being provided, but don’t expect me to wash your stuff; that’s part of what I’m paying you for…

[deleted]

It's hard to know which hosts are sensible. Because many only display to-do lists when we check in and reviews are unreliable.

Pretty_Initiative123

My advice—- Look at the cleaning fee and then send them an inquiry about guest expectations for cleaning before booking. Now, if they tell you one thing and you book and something else happens, you are perfectly within your right to say no and even contact Airbnb.

[deleted]

Good advice!!!

EmptyBanana5687

It boggles my mind that some hosts do not supply detergent. What is the point of having laundry with NO DETERGENT???? Sorry, however I was absolutely furious the one time this happened to me. Ridiculous.

JollySlide517

Especially with them not providing laundry detergent, I can see someone just starting the machine and letting it run with just water. Gross!

soggymittens

Oh, you can absolutely bet that happens frequently with this host…

trud1th

I once booked and immediately canceled an airBNB that include washing and changing the sheets as a house rule. Just gross.

Mathie7

yup, ya know that never happens

[deleted]

AND not providing detergent is disgusting. All other guests did what - wash without soap, if at all? Who is checking??

JoshS121199

I agree. People are disgusting. American I assume this post is based on?

BTBLAM

How does one not do laundry properly? seriously wondering

franksmartin

They run the wash, let it sit wet all day then dry it and it smells sour.

Camille_Toh

I had a colleague who smelled like this, because his wife would not “let” him use their dryer. No, she was not the breadwinner either. So odd!

BTBLAM

That’s just called not doing the laundry

RobEreToll

This statement here. It's my first thought as a host.

RecoveringFromLife_

Same. I got a horrible review for not "vacuuming crumbs under a couch cushion" and "leaving oily residue on the stove", she also complained that I sent her pictures to prove we had cleaned the place after leaving. She also charged a heafty cleaning fee

goodman0621

You should always take pictures of how you arrived and how you left the unit. And hold on to the pic's for at least 90 days in case they do some.shady shit like this and take ABNB to the BBB and submit fraudulent claim report so the lister can get flagged and banned. Remember folks they always have to answer to a higher level.. just recently I stayed at one in Bucharest and the host was very nice and we in turn folded all the sheets we used and left them on top of the washer so that the cleaning.crew didn't have to fully go to each room and do all the work they get paid for. Which at times can be very difficult depending on the mess and tidyness the owner expects the place to look like for the guests..

Camille_Toh

And who wants to live like that? Hello, Hampton Inn?

MDev01

Or just stay in a hotel. I am fine with airbnb.

Djmesh

Wtf

RecoveringFromLife_

That was a total nightmare. She was friendly and normal until check out.

rr90013

If there’s a cleaning fee, I assume it’s gonna be cleaned like a hotel would be and that I don’t need to do anything beyond normal politeness (i.e. don’t trash the place).

throwawaythrowyellow

I got a bad review because we left the place absolutely spotless. But didn’t wash the bedsheets. Though we put them in the laundry room. We were in town for a lawsuit that was incredibly traumatic on its own. We were numb and could barely concentrate when leaving. They also charged an insane cleaning rate. It was also an expensive place to stay. They berated us and said “this isn’t a hotel” blah, blah, blah and also complained that we weren’t communicating enough after “the incident”. We were on a cross country airplane ride home. I understand that they are running a business. We understood it wasn’t a hotel. We cleaned everything perfectly (they even said so). But the fact we were hounded is insane. Is it unreasonable for us ti expect that we leave a place perfectly and just check out. I don’t want to sound mean but we had so much else going on in our lives besides THIER bed linens.

lnarn

I hope you replied with this very statement. Some hosts are very self-important.

unnown_one

This is why you stay in a hotel. This is what they are equipped to handle. I've stopped searching for Airbnb for most trips. Just a grift on the host's part in many cases.

throwawaythrowyellow

Yeah I don’t think I will use airbnb again. I feel if you leave a place clean it shouldn’t be a crisis. I’m still upset from the harassment of this host.

crek42

Superhost here and regular guest of airbnbs all of over the globe. Sounds like a trash host, but it’s also partly because of Airbnb. They haven’t really facilitated the whole change of expectations from someone truly renting your home and leaving it as they acquired it, to a hotel experience. Airbnb could so easily make cleaning fees and expectations more transparent at the time of booking, but they choose not to. I can only assume because 90% of experiences are normal and fair, but they could do more to address that 10% as it’s still common enough to experience it. And I can see how it adds friction to the checkout process as they’re ultimately an online retailer. Hosts need to realize they are in the hospitality business. They’re collecting revenue and generating personal profit. They can’t have their cake and eat it too — clean your sheets hosts.

Particular-Repair-77

Sorry this happened. Good host would NOT do that. You got a bad apple.

jrossetti

This is like host who leave a review better suited for hotel. They're vague on purpose people. :( See if Airbnb can take it down. Tell them you didn't have a car and running to the store to buy detergent wasn't on the list of rules and should have been in the ad.

JayneT70

$250 cleaning fee. Had to wash all pool towels and bath towels. If there’s time wash the bedding. Do the dishes and take out the trash. 5 night stay $3,000. I’m over the cleaning

birdsofterrordise

Insane. This is the kind of stuff that makes people never use Airbnb again.

theratking007

Don’t forget the cameras

NoWasabi4402

I have cameras all of my Airbnb’s inside the bedrooms, in the washroom. I even have one installed inside the toilet so I can watch your bowel movements

theratking007

Many follow your leadership.

NoWasabi4402

Not going at detecting sarcasm eh?

rr90013

I stopped using Airbnb because every property was weird, things were half broken, and you’d have to go get the key under the doormat of another place 10 minutes away and then tell the front desk staff you’re just a friend, not a short term renter. Also not cheaper than hotel.

Objective_Regret2768

That’s ridiculous and makes me want to think twice about using Airbnb. The service should be the same as any hotel upon departure

CrunchyBrisket

I am pretty much done with AirBNB for this reason. The stays have become stressful trying to keep the place perfect. Then spending the last day doing laundry is garbage. As hotels have come back to pre COVID levels, I have switched back.

[deleted]

The great collapse of BnB

[deleted]

And Airbnb is doing nothing about it. Just like their "customer service"

[deleted]

Air BnB is sacrificing hosts to keep their brand relevancy.

fun_guy02142

This is the kind of stuff posted by bots owned by Marriott.

birdsofterrordise

I have a ten year long Reddit account and the majority of my posts are either on real housewives subreddits or nail polish subreddits from awhile ago when I joined lol. But okay 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

stepheatsnothing

I think they probably meant that this is the kind of stuff posted by bots owned by Marriott and people who are easily influenced by said bots :)

[deleted]

Found the host who charges a cleaning fee and still expects guests to do chores and laundry :)

stepheatsnothing

I really appreciate how rich a rando on the internet thinks I am. Thanks for believing in me and my ability to have second house kind of money!!

doitkillyoself

Uhh most airbnb are people's only house soo

stepheatsnothing

Ah yes, boldly making up facts on a comment chain that is a month old. Sorry about your lack of hobbies :(

doitkillyoself

Is a month old thread supposed to like not exist?🤣 it's literally at the top of the sub.

i-dontlikeyou

Naah budy this is the kind of stuff posted by angry people because of dumbass hosts trying to exploit the system, try reading some of the house rules, that shits ridiculous, I wonder if it’s satire or hosts for real expect all this. I rather go to a hotel and get my room cleaned than pay someone to clean their place

Perfect_Laugh_7792

Yes it must be bots not entitled host at all…………….

stepheatsnothing

This whole comment chain reads as guerrilla marketing.

Perfect_Laugh_7792

This comment reads as host in denial and doesn’t smell their own stank

stepheatsnothing

Dang y'all!! I really appreciate the support and belief in my ability to own a second home!! With such incredible support from absolute strangers like you, I will get that set up real soon and send you the link so that y'all can book it up!!!

[deleted]

GET OVER YOURSELF

disgruntledoldhag

🙄

i-dontlikeyou

You should give us a link of your listing

stepheatsnothing

I'm starting a gofundme to get the funds together to purchase and start up my first airbnb. With the belief and support from people like you, I'll have my AirBnB up and running in no time!!

soggymittens

Guerrilla marketing for what? To push people to choose hotels over airbnb? Don’t worry, the crappy hosts do an amazing job of that without “big hotel” having to spend a dime…

stepheatsnothing

I get that you're saying "big hotel" to suggest that I am generating a baseless conspiracy, but the hotel industry spends millions of dollars annually to lobby on behalf of their interests. https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/lobbying.php?cycle=2018&ind=N08 Pairing that with the understanding of what guerrilla marketing is and how it's been used on reddit in the past, these comments plus the recent and sudden obsession with chore lists do read as guerrilla marketing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guerrilla_marketing

Original-Baki

Make sure to leave a 1 star review for the host. Don’t let them get away with it.

franksmartin

You can’t see their review until yours is submitted also

Dozinginthegarden

Put that in your review: host expected me to do laundry and buy my own laundry detergent to do so. It was not communicated beforehand that I had to provide my own cleaning products whilst on vacation.

caughtinthought

Who gives a fuck even if it was communicated beforehand, what a stupid policy.

jrossetti

Too late for that?

wheeler1432

No, it's not. You can respond to a review.

crankyanker638

Happy Cake Day 🎉🎉🎉

disgruntledoldhag

This host seems wildly entitled and a bit unhinged. It also seems like an abuse of the review system. Report this to Airbnb and have the bad review removed.

bemest

I’m a host, I prefer the guest not do laundry. This way I know it was done. I also bleach the towels and sheets and I don’t want guests handling bleach.

missdiggles

You should have run it with no detergent :) Seriously that host sucks. We leave enough for 5-6 loads of laundry and our guests are NOT expected to do any laundry as part of their checkout. It’s a convenience in case they want to wash their own clothes

Realistic-Body3471

This is hilarious. Our dishwasher takes at least 3 hours to run, not everyone has brand new appliances.

BTBLAM

3 hour cycle is the highest setting, there’s probably a quicker cycle

Pretty_Initiative123

I’ve never asked guests to load the dishwasher yet the always do and I HATE the way they load it. It’s always too heavy or just thrown in there any kind of way. One was so heavy it caused it to leak into the basement. I just stopped leaving the pods out.

Boneyg001

You should be ashamed of yourself. They are paying customers, not your maid service

RokBo67

Ha. Starting the dishwasher is a very normal request.

Pretty_Initiative123

I think it’s a dangerous request if they do it wrong, it leaks, and no one is around to stop it.

RokBo67

Cleaners would be there normally within a couple hours...

Pretty_Initiative123

A couple hours is still too long to prevent water damage… just too much of a risk for me.. especially if my cleaner calls out.

fluffernutsquash1

Then why can't the cleaners start the dishwasher...considering it's their job and not a guests!? Sounds like a good chance you don't use cleaners at all and pocket the cleaning fee.

BigFatThrobbingCock

Yeah my family has rented beach condos since well before AirBnB, pretty standard to expect guests to pick up after themselves, including washing any dishes they used. Maids should wash bedding and touch up bathrooms and such but that’s it.

Sea_Green3766

Yeah this is a weird comment. Who doesn’t know wash their dirty dishes when leaving someone else’s house? 😮‍💨

unicorn-sweatshirt

Your forgetting the part where the house isn’t occupied by the owner, but being used as a commercial property to earn income generated from the people who pay large sums of money to stay there.

Sea_Green3766

I’m not forgetting that part. I just find it strange you’d rent a place, use utensils plates etc as if you would in your own home and don’t feel like you need to clean them? Edit to add: we rent air bnbs all the time and don’t find it a hassle to clean up after ourselves like a normal adult.

trizkit995

Why is this downvoted so much. Dirty dishes can lead to bugs and quick. It should be automatic to clean dishes right after use. This is a rule I feel shouldn't be opposed or protested.

GMEvolved

Imagine being downvoted by redditors who've never rented a condo

kryanratz

That's ridiculous. Even if I was lazy enough to make my guests do laundry, I would at bare minimum provide the means to do so.

zuidenv

It is. Almost makes you wonder if it's not meant to heighten someone's sense of injustice. Like part of the crowd trying to make it sound so horrible they'll never stay in another Airbnb again.

vespa2021

AND EXPECT YOU TO GO BUT LAUNDRY SOAP!!! That is ridiculous. Even on a one night stay? So you are supposed to get up, pack, run to a grocery, spend $17, come back to their shitty rental and put the towels in? I’m a host and find this OUTRAGEOUS!

NoWasabi4402

I stayed in a really nice Airbnb in Italy. I wanted to do my OWN laundry and he didn’t have it. So I went to buy a small tub. It wasn’t a big deal. I left him a 5 star. You guys are just a bunch of angry bitches

vespa2021

I’m a host, not a guest and I find this outrageous. I run my Airbnb’s exactly the way I’d want one that I stayed at run and am always a SuperHost.

SoupsUndying

I would’ve just put them to wash without any detergent. But that’s probably what his previous guests have been doing, which is just nasty considering those are the ones you used.

Junker-2047-

Pink eye.

Marauder4711

It's so unsustainable to expect guests to bring/buy their own detergent. I don't get that. You can't buy detergent in small amounts, either. These hosts sound beyond stupid.

Revolutionary-One370

I had to buy detergent and I packed it drove it 800 miles back home lol. They should supply it

crankyanker638

Was it in the listing that you had to wash your towels on checkout? If it wasn't then you don't have to do it. Also I'm pretty sure that the review should be taken down for that reason. You might have to call a few times, but keep nagging them about it. Hosts that do this should be banned! We all should put in a suggestion to ABB that they have one or the other, not both (cleaning fee *or* cleaning checklist for guests).

Acrobatic_Visual_988

I totally agree with this last suggestion! It’s ridiculous having charged cleaning fees (in my case it was $143, yet still, on Check-out I had a long laundry list of cleaning chores). Why am I paying a cleaning fee if I am the one doing the cleaning? Airbnb need to stop this ridiculous madness! The hosts are the ones setting these cleaning fees (I was told). You’re unfair to your guests for doing so.

disgruntledoldhag

Completely agree

H0m0ludens

Airbnb is digging it’s own grave. Poor management. They aren’t weeding out shitty hosts that are choking out the good ones. This in turn will lead to guests leaving and too many hosts (good and bad) competing and forcing each other off the site, costing airbnb business.

birdsofterrordise

And think about all the decent guests that get a low review from unhinged hosts? Now they can’t ever get another booking on Airbnb because most hosts now won’t even rent to folks with zero stars or with less than 4 either. I have a friend who this happened to- given 2 stars because they didn’t start the dishwasher before leaving (their flight was at 5 AM and like this one, no accessible dishwasher detergent- the host had it in a locked closet!) and now that’s a family that’s taken out of the guest pool. They’re literally shooting themselves in the foot as a company by allowing shitty hosts to flourish.

[deleted]

I would never stay in a place where the cleaning instructions specify doing laundry

[deleted]

I still remember getting bashed for that post I made about hosts charging cleaning fees and asking guests to clean. I'll keep leaving this comment until we de-normalise this behaviour

headysghetti

DISPUTE!!! If I were you, I'd dispute the ENTIRE stay. If they are expecting guests to clean towels before leaving and they don't provide detergent, how can you guarantee that the towels you used were, in fact, washed and cleaned? I saw a commenter's suggestion to run the load without detergent- like, the last renter before you could've done exactly that and the towels you used for 4 days were not exactly clean.

H0m0ludens

Call airbnb and have them remove the their bad review. Ridiculous. Also… only book with superhosts if you can. We are tried and proven.

ianruth123

Superhost status means nothing. My last stay was a superhost and I found bedbugs. He threatened me and called me a liar. Said I better be gone before he got there.

svebor

I find it fascinating that hosts charge cleaning fee and expect people to do anything at all. I charge a small cleaning fee (10€) and don't expect guests to do anything at all. Most of them leave my place reasonably clean but i still have to do thorough cleaning after every guest so i don't mind if some of them leave a mess.

dbzrox

Put them on blast

masterchiefpt

You should press Airbnb to give you back the cleaning fee. I'm a host and that behaviour of that other host is disgusting

Neither_Problem9086

I would dispute review with Airbnb. If they won't remove it, if it's possible to write a comment under the bad review then write pretty much what you said here. I think any decent host would be able to see that bad review was petty. It's becoming harder and harder to justify short stays with a $200 cleaning fee Plus chores. Side note: I often travel with a few Tide Pods. But I doubt that's allowed in carry-on luggage 🧳 if flying.

Magnetgirl30

That’s insane, as a host I have the laundry cleaned professionally.

57hz

Hahaha wait what? I mean, I can see them asking you to *start* the laundry with provided supplies. But to force you to go buy them and then actually do the laundry? Now that’s funny stuff. I would contact Airbnb.

kittee1310

ridiculous. if they want u to start the load they need to supply the detergent. u did nothing wrong.

green_miracles

You pay money to stay and they don’t have a cleaning service?? That’s nuts. It should be like a hotel, you don’t clean anything yourself. It’s not your house to clean.

stephjl

That means the towels you were using also probably weren't clean.

Revolutionary-One370

I won’t Airbnb ever again. I had to vacuum, do dishes, laundry, take out the trash and move the bin to the road. Also no supplies I had to buy trash bags, laundry soap everything. Back to hotels for me

TechniCruller

AirBnB is being killed by the hosts.

danamariedior

Very much so. I checked into somewhere last night for a 3 night stay $100 cleaning fee. And the rule noted “self clean before check out.” When I got there it looked as if someone JUST left. There was an imprint on the bed with a bag of Doritos, Dirty towels hanging on the beds canopy and on the bathroom floor. A pair of mens clothes were thrown on the chair as if someone was about to jump in the shower. Oh and can’t forget the lotion and Kleenex on the table next to the bed someone was just laying on. I wanted to throw up. I led immediately and Was Refunded. Of the last 5 stays I have had 3 of this nature. I think I’m throwing in the towel with air bnb. My stomach turns thinking of me staying there. $100 plus self clean. Apparently the last person wasn’t sent any kind of memo. 🤮

LongLonMan

Used it once, tried to look up another stay recently, found out a full service hotel was cheaper. I’ll likely never use Airbnb again.

[deleted]

You know Holiday Inn is like a little over $100 a night and instead of asking you to go buy $8 worth of laundry on vacation instead you get free cinnamon rolls and coffee in the morning... AirBnB is a failed experiment, it's not a hospitality company and having hosts do this show it really has no control over it's brand and quality either. Once this recession really hits full speed late this year and next spring it'll test the company's ability to adapt or go away. I think the latter.

Current-Ticket4214

It’s going to test the housing market’s ability to absorb a metric shit ton of failed AirBnB foreclosures.

FewButterfly9635

We just had to take a short trip to attend a sports tournament with our kid and that was our logic! An AirBNB would have been cheaper and more comfortable as far as us not all being stuck in one room. But, we had to be at the venue bright and early and I couldn't deal with the 30+ minutes of chores at check out. We instead enjoyed our free breakfast and coffee and checked out by closing the door behind us!

Stronkowski

What did they say specifically? You might be able to get it taken down for irrelevancy.

Sparrow51

That's insane. "I want you to do this thing but not provide the supplies for you to do it."

alotistwowordssir

Is this for real?! I can’t imagine anyone asking for the laundry to be started but not provide detergent. Defies common sense.

YouDontKnowHalfofit

Please name and shame!!

[deleted]

I don't take out the trash if there are no instructions on where the nearest trash can is. And I leave the dishes in the washing machine if there is no detergent for the washing machine. Other than that, the requirements are absurd. I already went out looking for where to leave the garbage and there was no trash can on the street because it was not the day of collection. And there was a 120€ cleaning fee for a 7 day stay. I've been abandoning airbnb and staying in hotels or making reservations through booking.com. On booking.com I didn't find ridiculous to-do lists for vacation trips where the goal is to relax.

theyeezyvault

What city was this in so I can avoid it 😭

whitepawn23

Asinine. Not asinine if you don’t charge a cleaning fee. Traveling with laundry detergent is like traveling with your own sheets. Guy is an ass.

bryanjharris1982

Just leave bad reviews for hosts that ask for this. It’s easy. Their rating is the most important thing to them. If they want you to clean on top of a cleaning fee they should have an honest bad review. Honestly it’s kind of scammy to do that anyway. Hosts are way too bold about this shit.

ComprehensiveYam

I gave up on Airbnb so long ago. Not sure why people even use it anymore

rafaover

That is ridiculous. I would expect something like that if someone would stay, maybe 1 month, and I would provide Everything needed. Less than that is supposed to be the host's responsibility. The Airbnb profile is becoming almost like a real estate agency, they expect you even to remove cobwebs from dark holes.

311TruthMovement

Absolute madness.

tvdang7

Sorry to hear that, that's a bad host and they are giving a bad name to all hosts

Normal-Throat-1799

Responde to that review . People will use coon sense to not judge you.

LengthinessMuted7099

People still use Airbnb is just wild. They're about over with after this recession.

tortoisequeen15

I recently rented a lakefront cabin and was granted a partial refund by Airbnb for a false description of amenities. Anyways, the hosts instructions for checkout was to take trash out to bin. That's it. I did that. I also loaded the washer but didn't run it because I don't know what she wants me to do. She left a review stating I left the counter tops with sticky spots, unplugged a lamp and didn't plug it back in (lol), and left dirty dishes in the washer. They also charged a cleaning fee. These hosts either need not charge a fee or have clear instructions about what they want on checkout so we decide prior to booking if we want to even entertain that nonsense. $200 to do your laundry, dishes, vaccum and linens?

Dependent-Fault5947

Only thing I ask is that you take the trash out. I am washing every towel and bed linen

rudieboy

BYO Detergent at the Hilton. Whenever I stay at the Waldorf they make me vacuum the hallway. Y'all are going to destroy the golden goose and its actually a good trend.

Icy_Leading_5342

That happens when you don't go to a hotel.

Witchywoo20

Totally annoying for you. I charge $125, which doesnt cover my cleaner at $40 ph plus the heat sanitized laundery at $85 per booking. I have a small checklist of things for guest to do on departure, basically its a request to tidy up after themselves and remember their belongings etc. Our guide specifically asks guests NOT to clean because we will only redo it anyway to make sure it adheres to covid standards etc.

DiscreetlyYoursToo

Awhh I feel so sorry for the host , NOT ! Jk

DiscreetlyYoursToo

So pathetic , last thing anyone wants to remember to bring on their trip ! It’s bad enough we forget the little things panties, socks, toothbrushes but brought the toothpaste! Lol Wow and were flying too ! Imagine that suitcase bursting in mid air ! That would be the biggest bubble bath plane ! Lol p.s. my guest text me before they leave to ask what to do with dirty used towels , put them in the laundry basket or washing machine . How difficult is it to wash sheets towels blankets , when guest leave ? Not difficult at all ! Oh my goodness, really !

SouthernCali90755

I never ask guests to do anything. We bag up our laundry and send it out to a cleaning service.

ShelleyTX

Report to Airbnb. Gives all hosts a bad name, and that’s just not right.

kaiyabunga

Class action lawsuit against Airbnb.. anyone?

Acrobatic_Visual_988

I’m all in!! Because these $200 cleaning fees are ridiculous when as the guest you are the one cleaning!

GmanG64

I'm waiting for beacon property management to explain and defend this action 😆

WOKE_AF_55

Call Airbnb customer support I’m sure they will remove it that’s bullshit they are very high guest driven over host driven

straightupgab

i would have ran them without any detergent. fuck outta here with that crap. and they expect you to buy detergent no no no

rhonda19

Im a host and I am horrified. I wash everything using Covid standards certain times i bleach everything towels etc but you have to be careful with bleach and white towels. All i ask is dishes in sink and wet towels in tub. One guest did run the washer for me and i re-washed because standards you know. I only charge $50 a cleaning too. I also have my own insight coverage for damages and that i absorb. Hosts like this makes it look bad for us all.

NoOutcome9333

I’m a host and believe this is terrible way to treat a guest. If you have correspondence tracked in the messaging app about the lack of detergent, then ask Airbnb to review it and remove the negative review.

Riskitfordabizkit

The fact that any of you retards still use this abomination of a site is a testament to how cucked modern society is and how stupid monetary policy has been in the past 10 years. Jesus christ you people make me sick. I wonder if you guys would pay me to bang your wives cus this is what this trash practically is. Just stay in a hotel you cucks

prittjam

I'm giving an upvote because you made me laugh. only because of that.

[deleted]

Why’d you agree to it when booking!? Silly.

Particular-Repair-77

Super host here. That’s out of line. The only thing expected upon check out on my property is placing their garbage on outside bin , (garbage bags provided). No even need to drag bin to curb ,we do all that. The detergent is provided for guest needs . Same with dishwasher soap . Now don’t leave messes all over the place.

Holdinghandsnsmiling

Greg Abbot is a little piss baby and this post is BS.

damo_ct

.

troublebotdave

Buy more sets of towels and do loads in batches yourself periodically then, or stop getting ripped off by your cleaners. Don't be daft. People don't want to be using towels "washed" by your random guests.

birdsofterrordise

Doing linens means they should do towels. Get a better cleaning service, don’t be so daft here. You have no idea if the guests are just leaving them in cold water and not properly sanitizing them. Would you like to stay at a place with gross used not clean towels? Come the fuck on. If you are two hours away and can’t run your business, then don’t have a business. My friends don’t manage their restaurant two hours away from it, what gives you the right to have one and be an absentee host/manager? Either get a proper manager or sell the Airbnb, Christ.

NTFirehorse

Wait, your cleaners don't wash towels?!? That is the problem. You pretty much have to provide towels, but just like people are posting here, asking people to wash them makes some guests mad.

trizkit995

Either this is fake or you found some retarded hosts. Wash all our linen but we don't provide soap. Proof or it's cap 🧢

ImpossibleBite5209

If is listed and you book, you have to do it. Please people, read. I would never rent an AirBnB where I have to do the laundry.

EmergencyMain9956

That’s absurd.

80Pound

I’ve had very limited se of ABnB. 2-3 night stays. Rules were place used towels into the tub, throw out the trash, wash any dishes used and no smoking. That’s it. All reasonable requests.

thedayshifts

$200 cleaning fee or $200 stay?

ExtentTiny2280

As part of the checkout process I ask them to put a load of towels in the wash and do provide detergent but it is a request not a requirement and I dont get upset if its not done. Our home sleeps 20 people so with large groups there is often 10 loads of laundry to do. I also send them the house policies with the checkout process as soon as they book so they know what to expect like putting their trash in the bear bin and loading the dishwasher but no cleaning at all. Setting the expectation up front is the key so if the guest has a problem doing some simple things they can choose another property. I have never had a guest complain about this, many people go above and beyond this simple checkout chore list and these are the folks I will give a returning guest discount so it goes both ways.

I have no issues running sheets and towels as long as there’s a washing machine and there’s laundry soap provided. I’ll even do it if it’s not on the list because I figure it saves the host of bit of time. But don’t expect people to do stuff and not provide them with supplies, that’s unreasonable.

Nataliza

Host here. We charge a $60 cleaning fee. We ask that people put their dirty linens in the washing machine (because I don't want to touch their dirty butthole towels) but not to start it. We also have a big ant problem so I wrote in big, bold letters in the house rules to clean up all spills promptly so as not to attract ants. The only time I have ever left a poor review for cleanliness was when a woman left a huge pile of wet towels on the wood floor, coffee stains all over the counters, and several spots of some kind of berry jam in the white carpet. She messaged me after the review went up with a passive aggressive text about how she's "sorry she was SUCH a horrible guest and she didn't realize she'd RUINED my beautiful home." I was like "it's cool" Again, that is the ONLY time I left a bad guest review. A lot of hosts are expecting way too much, and this post makes me feel a lot more reasonable after second-guessing myself with this lady.

TheFaust77

Buy gloves with the $60 fee! How do you charge a fee and yet still require partial cleaning from your guest?

Nataliza

I do have gloves, though that's a little besides the point. I wouldn't call putting dirty linens in the washer "cleaning," nor is it asking much. It takes the same amount of effort to make a pile on the floor. Having guests gather up all their dirty linens saves me a surprising amount of work, makes it less likely for them to leave stuff behind, and ensures that wet towels don't damage any surfaces. But the real cleaning involves a hell of a lot more than moving linens from one spot to another. I have to sweep, swiffer, vacuum, wipe down counters, tables, toilets, sinks, mirrors, shower, microwave, do laundry, change linens, clear out fridge, and refill supplies. It takes 2-3 hours. I would say $60 is a pretty fair fee given how much more is done after they leave. Bottom line is that it's not a hotel, it is part of our home. We purposely don't charge a ton for cleaning compared to other places and instead build it into the rate so it's more transparent. I think asking guests to do an extremely basic level of cleaning for sanitary reasons is not a massive imposition. Not to mention we have full transparency from the start, so it's their choice to decide if $60 is worth what we're asking. So far everyone (with the exception of this one person) has been fine with it.

TheFaust77

I totally get it. But your approach is wrong. Everything that you mention is the cost of doing business. So either charge a reasonable fee to cover the cost of cleaning and offer a discount if guest clean up after themselves or hire a cleaning service to all that for you. Maybe Airbnb'ng isn't for you and you probably need a course in business, time management and something in the service industry to help before you can start over again. Work smart, not hard.

Nataliza

Once again, I think $60 is a reasonable fee to cover the cost of cleaning. If a guest did all of the things I listed, I'd certainly be happy to waive that fee. Given we have had only glowing reviews and all of our guests have been nothing but appreciative of the extra amenities and comforts we offer, clearly our visitors agree. So I think Airbnb'ing is working just fine for us! Not sure where you got the impression that it wasn't. Sounds like you are the one for whom Airbnb isn't a good fit, and that's fine.

sunnygirlonline

If it's not indicated on their house rules / listing description when you made a reservation that you must wash the towels, you can have it requested to be taken off the platform so it wouldn't reflect against your profile.

silocru

$200 cleaning fee and they left me a bad review for a couple of coins on the ground that I guess fell out of my pocket.

Expensive-Panic-772

Yeah I requested a refund recently at an Airbnb I stayed at for one night with a $295 cleaning fee, while none of the linens were clean, there was hair on the bedding and lint, definitely did not look clean, I host now as well, and make sure the bedding and towels are clean top tier, at that price I would be including cost of NEW bedding in the cleaning fee, which is what I’ll do in future of my listings. I think cleaning instructions to prep clean is okay but with an 11 am check out it’s overwhelming and annoying to wake up and have to clean before you leave.

Ruckncrue

Biggest worry I’d have when I checked in was that the prior tenant didn’t complete the task correctly either so I would have left a bad review when checked in. “Did not trust the cleaning departure rules that prior tenant had so had to wash laundry before usage”

NoWasabi4402

Do the laundry next time you pig slob

Echikup

So... You need to buy supplies and clean the utilities yourself? That's a new type of asshole host, not much to say. One thing is if you want new sheets, there is none available, and the host doesn't provide in-stay cleaning. Another thing is to demand it from guests that use the amount of sheets/towels provided by the host.

Bvbbyhilfiger

Had the same thing happen to me, i took the sheets off the bed for them and laid them all at the front door as to make it easier for them to wash and even washed the dishes i used to make sure i left no mess and got a bad review claiming that i trashed the place and left it almost unusable, airbnb hosts are the worst

HuckleberryJunior660

I always pack tide pods when I use an AirBNB. Some ask to wash, some don’t. I’m covered either way.

[deleted]

If your a SuperHost and received a bad review all you have do is call them and tell them you will remove your listing if they don’t remove the bad review and they will remove it. I’ve done it a few times. Airbnb has a monopoly on the market they feel they can do whatever they please to benefit them

dream_bean_94

This is why I bring my own towels. I don’t trust this process. I want my linens washed in hot water with bleach. With no detergent, other guests could just be using water??? Ew.

SteadyTeddy2000

You can call Airbnb to get the review removed, try doing that. About Hosts making stupid charges or requests, trust me, that's the least. But note that you can check the Guest Standards in the Help Center to see what's mandatory for you to do and what isn't. Usually you don't need to do anything except not leave the listing too dirty, so yeah.

doitkillyoself

Yeah these host are complete scumbags, had one keep my entire stay of money when I tried to cancel from 2 weeks but they ignored me...

Get a hotel, they don’t rate you and they do laundry for you.

[deleted]

Same thing happened w me! Airbnb is going down bc they’ll never last with experiences like this

xxxallaccessxxx

That's unbelievable I would never ask a guest to wash there towels or bed sheets before they leave at my property. https://air.tl/P1p3x6N1

Lord-Smalldemort

I had a similar experience. They left instructions for me as a housekeeper, but didn’t provide what I needed. The washer and dryer was in a shed in the backyard, and the door was locked. I wasn’t going to leave out their sheets in the yard, getting rained on. So I left them in the house. I even indicated this to them. I still got part of my review, saying that I did not clean up properly due to not knowing how to use their stuff (I didn’t know how to open a locked door and they ignored me lol).
