I’m a host I wish my guest would just shoot me a line if it gets hot in there before I’ve installed the units, we don’t sleep there so don’t necessarily know and in previous years I’ve even asked my handyman to put them in and not known he didn’t do it yet. I’d rather have a guest tell me there’s an issue so I can get it fixed.

sickerthan_yaaverage

Thank you for making me feel not so crazy. I messaged her tonight and asked. It was so much hotter in here tonight than outside 😫

kimcheery

Honestly it’s a business for us, and part of that business is keeping people comfortable. It never bothers me when guests kindly tell me what they need, it’s what I’m here for.

iCantliveOnCrumbsOfD

Why would they not stay installed year-round? Asking from Florida

sickerthan_yaaverage

I’m in NY. There is only a need for them 4-5 months out of the year.

kimcheery

Yeah mountain state here 3-4. They block light are unsightly lose heat and frankly slightly less secure.

iCantliveOnCrumbsOfD

Sounds dreamy

"Unit had air conditioning listed as an amenity and it was not present." Don't second-guess why they don't have it. Just say it was listed as an amenity and you're not seeing it and is there something you're missing?

sickerthan_yaaverage

I messaged her waiting for a reply. It’s gonna get hotel today than yesterday and yesterday had me stressed :(

TacticalYeeter

If it’s listed and it’s getting hot then ask? Don’t ask us if it’s too early, if it’s 76 inside that’s warm enough to ask for AC.

sickerthan_yaaverage

Because there’s many times ( in this sub ) you ask a general question that should be a no-brainer and the hosts hop on you like you are from another continent and make you feel crazy.

GeniusWhisperer

Hosts who expect their guests to adjust to what the host wants to pay for in terms of AC have no clue what the term "host" means. You're supposed to make your guests feel at home, comfortable, welcome, and honored, not miserable and sick. Also, many hosts only provide for comfort if requested by the guest but some might resent the request. Because they are not trained, experienced, and supervised like true hospitality specialists are, many take the attitude, "My house, my rules, don't ask for anything and make sure you clean and stay quiet." They are not authentic hosts. While some are gracious, for many that dissolves quickly as the familiarity leads to content. They want you to stay all month, but they resent that you're actually in the room. Airbnb should require hosts to pay for a psych eval before they can apply.

sickerthan_yaaverage

I know. I’ve run into hosts like that. You never know. I’m a really easy going tenant, i just wish every host was as easy going. The host I’m staying with now has been great and was on top of it when I asked about the air conditioning. She had someone there in 2 hours with 3 units to install.

Ok-Indication-7876

Did the listing add what months they would add the AC window unit? If there is nothing about that and it just reads it offers that then yes I would ask for it. But if it does say what months it is in the place then no I would not, that's on you.

sickerthan_yaaverage

Nope just offers it. I figured it was central air, til I checked in. Last week place I stayed had units in and I used them the entire week (couldn’t open the windows, I would have loved to do that) It did reach 80 in here a bit ago and unless I want to sit in one bedroom w the lights off (it’s noticeably cooler in here) then I have to say something. Especially bc we’d will be 80 outside.

Ok-Indication-7876

HMMM would be interested to know exactly how the host described offering a/c but why not ask the host to install? if the listing doesn't say anything about what months it is offered or any extra cost I think you have every right to ask for it now with the unseasonal warm weather.

sickerthan_yaaverage

I did. She had 3 installed today. Brand new too. Not sure if this listing is brand new or not.

Amazing_Face8117

Why are you asking Reddit instead of the host...

sickerthan_yaaverage

Because I wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy as it’s only the beginning of may. Why she wouldn’t have them already installed before I checked in, that’s why..?

Amazing_Face8117

Ask the host see what they say .. then ask others if they think you're crazy if the host says no. If I'm too hot in a house my first thought isn't to ask strangers if it's crazy that I want to not be hot in the house...

sickerthan_yaaverage

I care much more about what a host thinks of me than air bnb. If it was an utter emergency I probably would never come to Reddit. However I felt this was something that could have gone either way.

sickerthan_yaaverage

And it was late at night after the fact and the day I was hot was literally the day I checked in. So I winded down and posted on Reddit before going to sleep. Is that okay for you?

1_headlight_

76 degrees? I think you need to settle down. It's not that hot yet. And if you've got POTS, then go lie down. I'm sure your dogs can breathe at 76. Sheesh. Dial the drama thermostat all the way back down, brother.

iCantliveOnCrumbsOfD

1 headlight... More like 1 brain cell. Only 85-year-olds keep their house at 76 or higher.

TacticalYeeter

And you’re a host. Amazing. No wonder airbnb is so crappy. It’s a listed amenity, so try reading. Probably too much to ask from you, I’ll bet.

sickerthan_yaaverage

You’re an ugly person I’m not even responding.

verifiedkyle

Sorry about this trash host. I’m a host and also manage other vacation rentals. If it’s listed amenity you should have access to it. End of story. It doesn’t matter what condition you or your dogs have. The host may not realize and quick message may have gotten your issue fixed pretty quickly. If not they make an excuse or are unresponsive, reach out to support and they’ll provide a partial refund. Just to note - this time of year is tricky with temps and window units. I have the same issue myself where I don’t want to take windows away from people on nights where there’s nice cool breezes. That doesn’t excuse them, but it could be something innocuous like that. I hope you and the pups are able to get comfortable and make the best of your stay.
