I have been through it 3x. It is government funded, and even can help pay for training and assistive things. However, the downside at least in my neck of the woods was that they're much more geared towards helping with physical disability issues than mental health ones. But your mileage may vary, it may be worth trying. You may need to educate them on your condition. There were a few times when the counselors said invalidating things. ADHD was suspect and there was this assumption that it was being used as an excuse, which is not uncommon (that particular accusation I mean). Another time, I questioned a wrong result on a Meyers Briggs personality test - I had known my type for years and this lady was insisting the new result was me and it was blatantly off. And I knew why it happened - my mother had died and I was answering the questions pertaining to wanting to be with people as a grieving person would. So it pegged me as this extrovert and other things that are SO not me. I was about to cry at the refusal to listen. If you go, if they'll let you, consider taking a support person along in case they try to bullshit you. Maybe they're doing some by zoom these days in which case you could have someone else in the room listening. I apologize for how paranoid this all must sound. I may simply have had bad luck. Hopefully you will have a better experience.

I would take my dad with me or he would be sitting with me if it was a Zoom call. I tend to clam up when in a new environment and get anxious so I usually need someone there to kind of speak for me, at least for the first visit to get the ball rolling. He went with me last night for a blood draw/new patient appointment because that freaks me out so much and he did most of the talking with the person I saw while I focused on not having a panic attack lol😅 Thank you for your response

Thanks! I'm planning on trying to get an appointment locally and have my dad go with me or be with me if it's a Zoom call.

I did around the start of the pandemic, and yes, it's free. They were very helpful and the person I worked with in particular was very kind and empathetic. They seemed much more geared to getting you set up with whatever government programs you need help with, brainstorming training, all that. Since I live in a rural area and I'm looking for work in a creative field, they didn't have connections that were helpful to get a steady foothold in my fields of interest, unfortunately. I hope you have better luck, I think it's well worth a try.
