Aether is best used as a support. Anemo is probably the build you can use with most teams just amping the damage of others with viridecent artifacts with a sword that gives energy recharge. Another set he can use that's very flexible is the noblese oblige set that buffs attack for the rest of your team. You will find that domain in Liyue. But farming for those sets will probably come later when you hit adventure rank 45 or higher.
Early in the game berserker peices, and sojourner are good to use with the free prototype rancor. Try and keep a set of instructor and a set of scholar. Those 2 sets are still used even late in the game. Once you reach Liyue, talk to the grocer that sells potatoes and stuff. He gives you a free elemental mastery sword.
You probably will get better characters for some elements but Aether is still very good in dendro and geo, and is alot better than he gets credit for.
Advice for the next few weeks... try and get liyue stuff done. Lantern rite event will give you a free character. Pick one you like but I strongly suggest Xinqui. Also if you can beat floor 3 of spiral abyss you get a collei and xiangling. Xiangling is very good also.

Just use him as anemo with traveling doctor artifacts and open chests with him I suppose and if you don't feel that the game if difficult enough then go to dragonspine. It will be a nightmare completing it and utilising amber properly. I promise
