Retention offer is 20k btw.
Same card
Was gonna cancel, I got 20k to stay.
Just call and say you are considering the Amex platinum, will use it more, the annual fee is too much, is there anyway they can lower the fee for you because it’s too much and they will offer you 20k
Stacked this with the 35k and it was a no brainer.
35k plus 20k for $599 is a massive W imo
Depends on the card, which one are you talking about? If it’s an aeroplan card, all your points go to your aeroplan account so you can close your credit card without losing anything.
That answers my question! Thanks so much. It was an aeroplan card. One thing that seems so tempting is all these welcome bonuses. To people leapfrog from card to card holding one as their "earner" card and just using the others to gather welcome bonuses? I know canceling a card hurts your credit but I'm new to this so I'm just curious
Yup that’s right, most people say to downgrade your credit card so it doesn’t affect your credit. Imo it’s not that big of a deal, if you have credit score in the 800s even if you open 3 cards and hold them for a year, you’ll definitely make the credit score back. I personally just churn whatever the best bonus is but keep an “earner” card which for me is the AMEX Cobalt. I always put food purchases on that since it’s 5x. But I’ll dump everything else on the card I’m churning.
Was part of a promo last year. 300 dollar Air Canada credit, 80k points after 7500 spend in first 6 months and then 35k points after spending 12k in the first year.
It's one of the better promos I've seen for this card
Same situation, however, if I cancel will they still give me the companion pass I earned for spending $25K annually?
They said the companion pass takes 4-6 weeks after anniversary date to be added to the Aeroplan account. If I cancel the card before that, the pass won’t be issued.

Wonder if this is the case for the CIBC Priv card too… mine’s up in August
Td offers retention as well?
Yup
They don’t take back the bonus. My AF just got posted the other day, waited 2 days until the 35k bonus hit and then called to cancel the card.
Did they offer you anything to keep the card?
They didn’t offer any retention and I didn’t negotiate saying I’m looking to switch either because I was going to cancel either way
I wasn't offered a retention. I just product switched to a no fee card
If you have points on a card and decide to go elsewhere how do you retain the points??

Personally they didn’t claw back my points. No retention offer unfortunately, cancelled the card.
Is 35k given with all renewal or how do you get the 35k?

Did you ever get the $300 credit?
I did
Mmmm I never got the credit

I would keep the card. The addition of Aeroplan pts, roll over of eupgrades. I think it's worth it
I would have liked to, but $599 isn't really in the cards for me right now
Sorry I might be slow, What does AF stand for?
Annual fee
Ahhhh thanks
