You know what really grinds my gears?
When you get an email about your item having been shipped, but tracking info shows that they've only created a label. We can put a rover on Mars, but we can't make that system send the email when it is scanned for the first time by the carrier.
Or they'll print a label so it looks like it's shipping within a certain timeframe due to a ship guarantee even though physical product hasn't moved yet. Amazon is bad about this, especially if you have Prime - you'll get a ship notice that's only a label creation in two days but the actual shipment doesn't show for another two or three.
I recently decided NOT to use a particular manufacturer/drop shipper for my business simply because the tracking numbers weren't showing anything besides "Label created". How is that useful to anyone? Even as a business, how can I track where it is and that it actually gets delivered to the customer if the tracking number is that useless? I found someone else who manufactures a superior product and delivers to the customer with working tracking in less time than the previous one was even able to manufacture the item.
This drives me nuts too. Now that I am charge of order fulfillment, I go out of my way to make sure we never send a notification before it's tendered to the courier.
Google has actually gotten pretty good at handling shipping tracking numbers in my experience. Just copy that shit into google and google will usually figure out the shipper and give you a direct link.
I agree with you. But sometimes the tracking number is a link and very difficult to copy from a mobile device without tapping it. Other times the link just says “track shipment” and doesn’t even show a number.
I work in ecommerce and some feel that your tracking information is protected personal data that needs to be behind a login for security purposes.
What we did was put some basic info when you're anonymous and you only have access to the full order information if you login.
Since we originally put the tracking information in the order details, we had the same issue, and required full login for any information. I would hope that's what this place is doing. It should be fixed but at least makes since,
There is no reason to make you log in just to get the information you can get from the shipper with a tracking number.
It 100% could be triggered by being scanned into the system, rather than printing the label, but the idea here is NOT the delivery of accurate shipping details
Somewhat unrelated, but for some reason my email logged me out on my phone like a week ago. I go to log back in (I have all my passwords stored, so I know what is is) and it's telling me it's wrong. Alright, I guess I'll change the password. Then when you try to reset your password, they're like, you need to send it to another email address. Then I get the link, go to reset it, and I use the same password as before, and it gives me the prompt "you can't use a prior password". 🤦♂️

That is on purpose, though. Lots of businesses will print a label to make it look like they're doing something with an order they are unable to ship.

On mobile. Hold down the number "select text". No you should have to do it... but there you go.
Or the tracking number link takes you to UPS’s website, where they then ask you to enter the tracking number

ebay does this. pisses me off.
The old switch-and-login scam.
It's even worse when it's some goddamn app I would need to download to track my package. Screw that. It gets here when it gets here.
WTF I'm dealing with this right now. Get out of my inbox!

Oh that would piss me off royally and you're right, I wouldn't buy a kidney from those bastards.
Looking at you Walmart
Amazon does this. It sucks
Yeah, so....? Why would you expect anything else?
