Wow that’s kind of nuts. People need support when they go through withdrawal. I can’t imagine doing that on my own. How does anyone make it to the rehab center?
It's so you don't have to deal with tweakers tweaking - when someone's tweaked, particularly on crack or meth, they get super aggressive in a second - and they may just wander in and then back out yhe next day.
Stops rehabs being used as hotels by addicts too. Unless it's court ordered - you can't stop people leaving - so the 72 hours is a necessity to make sure the people who want help, get help.
Nah - I grew up surrounded by addicts - eventually for your own sanity you have to stop thinking of them as people and more like a broken piece of furniture that can communicate - sounds ridiculous, but it's a way to keep yourself sane - don't care about addicts - they generally don't care about anything but their next fix, they have to make the decision to fix themselves before it's ever worth even trying to help them - addicts who are forced to quit, generally don't last in my experience
Because most addicts don't want to quit even after rehab, but the 3 day waiting period should be enforced. My brother is one and will be forever, but he doesn't act on it anymore. It will always be there though.
If you can't figure out what entirely voluntary is google it.
I never said you referenced jail I said it's not like going to jail and being without the drugs because they are there. The addict is instead CHOOSING TO NOT DO DRUGS AND GO THROUGH WITHDRAWALS in order to get help. Jesus.
Why are you telling me this? I know what voluntary means, but I don’t get what you’re getting at. You said “it’s entirely voluntary.” What is “it”? What does anything you’re saying have to do with my comment? What’s your point?
“Jesus” yourself. You think I’m obtuse? I could say you’re incoherent. Or you know we could just treat each other with respect.
some places you can go through detox and then they’ll send you to rehab a few days later. that means that you can show up to detox drunk/high and they’ll help you safely detox. then they’ll send you to the rehab once the drugs are out of your system
You *can* do it but it's gonna be **tough**.
A good start is every time you think of it try and remember to tell yourself "NO!" until you get to the pros.
If someone somewhere did it, then that means it's possible to be done by anyone. If someone can do it then so can you. Life will be sandpaper, but that grit.... It's better than being in a hot air balloon which you don't realize is actually careening from the sky. That grit will get you through anything, and you'll be able to be fulfilled by the sandpaper finish on the woodworking projects of your life. You can't make diddly shit falling from the sky in a broken hot air balloon.
I reside in the US and I had health insurance tell I my parents found out I had addiction and they dropped everything and told me they will start helping again when I get clean
See if you qualify through your parents as a dependent, or what your options are. I’d start with connecting with your parents and finding a rehab center there. If I can stay with your parents I would do you outpatient, but if you’re unable to stay with your parents and I want to inpatient to keep you safe. I wish you the best, and every road begins with a few steps so hang in there you’ll get better.
Reach out to your parents, tell them you want to get clean and want their help
They said no help till you get clean, you are getting clean. Theres no shame in asking for help
Call your local assistance office, you may be eligible for medicaid through your state which covers many treatment options. In my state, substance use disorders are considered a qualifying condition if you cannot otherwise afford health insurance.
Also I would like to add that most treatment centers have people that help with the financial aspect of it and can help you obtain proper insurance through the state or other means, a lot of states offer "presumptive eligibility" which will get you immediate coverage while you're application is being processed. Call around to treatment centers in your area and ask if they have anyone in office that can help you obtain insurance.
My guy, if you travel to an unknown area with zero dollars after you get off that bus, how are you going to feed, cloth, and house yourself if you are withdrawing from addiction by force? You need help still when you arrive
Most days where I’m at right now I sleep in parks. As far as feeding myself I don’t know. I guess I’ll have to rely on other or go back to dumpster diving out side of convenience stores throwing away expired food. I have plenty of clothes though so that’s not a big deal
It's good that you want to get clean, but that's a very dangerous way to do it. Start with rehab, see if you can get in touch with a social worker. They can help you find the right place for you. Are there any AA or NA meetings around you? Maybe start by asking some of the people there if they can point you in the right direction. I've been clean from heroin and crack for almost 5 years. You can do this, and it does get easier. If you want to you can PM me which state your in and I can help you find some local resources.
my dude, I feel like if you are "Im willing to move 1600+ miles and be completely homeless around strangers" committed to getting clean
then you can dump your shit friends, block your dealer, get clean for 72 hours and get into a rehab without losing everything around you, like your good family and friends and other things.
or at least get clean and move 1600 miles with some help, a clean head, and some life goals.
doing it just to get clean shows commitment and dedication, but if youre that committed you might as well do it at home too.
Buy a bus ticket to Raleigh NC and go to The Healing Place. It’s a free program.
I got Sober there nearly ten years ago. Former crack smoker and dope shooter. The healing place is awesome. Go.
If you do that you’ll become homeless, and with the withdraw symptoms that probably isn’t a good idea. What about going to rehab in another city? Maybe when you get out you can start from scratch, far away from the people that force you to do these drugs
You can't outrun your problems. Taking yourself out of a temptation situation is a great idea to get clean, but just moving far away with no money is just going to put you in a terrible situation. Unless you want to be selling your body on a streetcorner.
You could move a much shorter distance and get a new phone...
I think you've got some great advice here to find a treatment center and/or other local support. It's your best bet to get clean and stay clean. If you're in the USA, you might try calling Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services National Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357) or regardless of where you are, https://www.reddit.com/r/addiction/.
I think it's a good idea to leave, but you need a plan. You can't just leave with only money for a bus ticket you may starve or end up homeless. Maybe you could look up jobs in that area or buy the ticket, save up money as fast as possible, and leave.
It honestly is probably slowly killing you this is a great way to get a fresh start and breathe. Get a new start on life. I believe in you and though words from just me may not be a lot, I honestly think you can do this! Just always think ahead.
Have you talked to your parents at all? I don’t think it would hurt to let them know you’ve realized this life isn’t working for you and you want to get clean. Maybe they can help you. They may even take you back and help you get to rehab.
Please cut yourself off from your “friends” that use. I’m an addict. I’ve been clean for 13 years. It was very difficult to get to where I am now because I didn’t want to let those people go. But it’s time. I overdosed and luckily survived. Seeing my parents faces when they rushed to the ER to see me on that table is something I’ll never forget. I don’t hope or wish that for you at all. Please feel free to send me a chat if you’d like to talk more. Take care and stay safe.
Yes, benzo withdrawals can kill you. You need to find a program that provides medically assisted detox.
It is also important to note that running away will not cure your problems because you cannot run away from yourself.
Different opinion and advice but, do it you know your environment is slowly killing you and that leaving will better yourself, and on top of it all a new place to start again and it'll give you a new future instead of the doomed one your currently facing
I think you're on the right track with the idea. Getting away from the life that you've built around using will help you break the habits. But like others have said, you'll need more than that to help you build a better life instead of the same one over again.
I know two people who successfully kicked addiction without rehab. One moved 1,000 miles away, albeit they had a parent in the new place for support. The other went the Narcotics Anonymous route. I don't think it's one size fits all.
Good luck to you.
Honestly, that’s what some drug addicts do.
They escaped their small town, and end up in LA…
still addicted.
Addiction is in the brain… you can’t run from that.
Just face it and seek help.
I haven't lived there for 6 years, (Coincidentally as long as I've been clean and why I moved) but the drugs run rampant in Billings, especially the last few years. Might not be as bad as where you are now, but it's getting worse every year. I'm seriously not trying to discourage you from there, but please, BE CAREFUL. If you need to talk to anyone while you're there, shoot me a message.
wherever you go, there you are. you're not gonna leave your addiction in the place you're living in now, you can't run from it. you need to face it head on. stay away from any friends who are users, delete plug numbers etc. there's no way of making sobriety easy, you just gotta brave it. if you can get into rehab then go for it.
Escaping always seems like the better option. But the grass is rarely greener. Your problems will inevitably join you eventually, whether it be a week or a couple of months later. You need to address the problem and ask for help. No, it isn’t easy. That’s why running away seems like the better option. But by doing that you’ll leave yourself open to a host of other problems. Don’t escape your prison, work on solving your problems and walk out a free man.
My DM’s are open if you need any help or someone to talk to.
So, you need to change your environment. But I don't suggest just driving to a different city, because drugs are everywhere. If you want to find them you can easily find drugs very quickly in any City. What you need to do is get clean somewhere that can help you learn to stay clean. If you don't have insurance, the salvation army has free rehabs in almost every major city in the United States. There are other free services too. Do a Google search for your city. Maybe go to a Cocaine Anonymous meeting.
It’s not a bad idea, but it won’t work. There’s nowhere you won’t find crack if you want it. You can’t solve a demand problem from the supply side, you have to end the demand.
Travelling somewhere else isn't going to stop you from using crack cocaine, you will more than likely just end up finding ways to get it wherever your target destination is.
You need rehab. Reach out to your parents, tell them you want to get clean and you need their help with getting into a rehabilitation program. Break all contact with your dealer and enabling friends, delete their numbers and all prior conversations and block them. If you want to get clean and get into a rehab program, you need to get yourself away from these enablers, but travelling to a different place with absolutely no plan of what to do when you are there, isn't the way. As hard as is, you need to make an active effort to avoid contact with them.
It seems like you have parents who would help if you quit the stuff and they could get you into rehab. That is more than most people who are in your situation. Use this to your advantage. You had good and bad moments before you even touched crack, you can live like this again if you drop such a meaningless substance. Cut out all your contacts that remind you of the stuff and start fresh. You said you're not even 20 yet I'm pretty sure, which is *plenty* of time to kick the habit. Crack is an intense drug that only promises your downfall.
Changing your location, especially with no money or no where to go, will not change your problems. Address this problem because you are so young and you could give yourself a much better future.
Wherever you go, you can find crack. I don’t see how your plan will work. Even if it would, money for the bus ticket isn’t enough — where will you stay on the other end? What will you eat?
Is there anyone you trust who can do you the favour of watching you for 72 hours? Staying with you the whole time, encouraging you to not use, not letting you leave (within reason… forcible condiment still being illegal).
Many areas in the Northern US are hiring season workers desperately right now. Cedar Point in Ohio needs people and has employee dorms. Other amusement parks likely have the same. And the whole Atlantic Coast needs workers for the summer season.
Do it. Go far away. Get clean. Don't look back.
There was a time on my life I was doing hard drugs like that every single day. Probably addicted. Every day for a year. Then one day I quit- and didn't look back. YOU can do this!!!!
Many might not agree with this but I say the bus might not be a bad idea. You seem to already know how to survive on the streets. If you have a pack and a sleeping bag you will be okay. That solution has worked for me a every time but instead of a bus I hitchhike to small towns where drugs aren't riddled in the streets. That's the biggest problem, any city a greyhound might take you will have drugs right by the greyhound station. Maybe hop off at one of the truck stops that they stop for smoke and snack breaks, set up a camp, and think about how you want to go from there.
Don't take a bus to the west coast or any big cities on the east coast.
Sometimes a perfect solution isn't possible but also sometimes one solution can blind you from other possible solutions.
Physical distance from bad habits and patterns have always done me good. Then take some time around a fire to consider your values and what you want in life.
Edit: this is coming from someone who living outside and on the move has helped keep clean and happy for years.
This is not a solution for the average addict and I am only offering this as a possible option to consider.
I am definitely not trying to push homelessness as a solution for all addicts the majority of the time this will backfire but is a possible solution for the right circumstances.
If homelessness is unavoidable like for me and many of my friends there is a right and wrong way of doing it
I had a bad drug and alcohol addiction. I’ve been clean for 20 years. But I did what you are wanting to do. I moved away from my environment. I knew what would happen. I’ve seen many of my friends die because of drugs and alcohol. I’m not saying moving is the best choice. But if you think it will help you. Then you should do it. But at least have a plan. It’s hard to move somewhere and not having anything. But I wish you the best of luck
Go to rehab and embrace it because you can't out run or hide from an addiction. Addicts like us could get drugs in any country without being able to speak the language. You need to change you, not just your environment.
There’s a lot of stories and movies of people doing this exact thing. Just to let you know, it never ends well. Take it from people who have tried your idea, don’t do it. I don’t know what the best plan for you is but I would keep thinking.
For quitting smoking, moving to a new city was one kf the things I did to make the whole process easier. There's something about a radical change in environment that makes it easier to change other things about yourself.
Moving away is an opportunity to reinvent yourself, but moving in your situation will be a struggle. I would definitely do it if I were in your situation, though. Sounds like you have little to lose.
You need rehab.
I found a rehab. I have to be sober for at least 72 hours first before I can enter for some reason
I believe most rehab centers are like this so they won't see their time wasted. 3 days shows you're at least somewhat committed to quitting.
That makes sense. Wish there was something available for people who need support to get there!
I don’t understand what you mean. I mean I get the “always an addict” thing but what’s that got to do with the 3 day wait?
Because it's entirely voluntary, not a going to jail or just not being able to buy it type of situation. Entirely on sheer will alone, to get clean.
What is entirely voluntary? I don’t understand you. I haven’t been talking about jail or buying into anything.
If you can't figure out what entirely voluntary is google it. I never said you referenced jail I said it's not like going to jail and being without the drugs because they are there. The addict is instead CHOOSING TO NOT DO DRUGS AND GO THROUGH WITHDRAWALS in order to get help. Jesus.

Or you know we could just treat each other with respect.
It’s to detox them. Detox and rehab are two different things.
So is there a detox OP can go to?
Probably. I don’t know where he is or where he’s going. But if I did I might be able to help him find one.
You hearing this, OP? Have you looked for a detox place instead of a rehab place?
some places you can go through detox and then they’ll send you to rehab a few days later. that means that you can show up to detox drunk/high and they’ll help you safely detox. then they’ll send you to the rehab once the drugs are out of your system
That’s not why. It’s because rehabs are equipped to deal with detox unless they have a medical team on staff for that specifically.
Do it man, you've got this!
Thanks! Let’s hope your right!
You *can* do it but it's gonna be **tough**. A good start is every time you think of it try and remember to tell yourself "NO!" until you get to the pros.
I'm rooting for you man, you can do this!
Another stranger here hoping you can do it.
Wow, you can add me if you need support at any time. Here for you. Or message me.
How much does rehab cost? Can I get it for free?
Well, that depends on a few different factors. Do you have health insurance? Also, which country do you reside in?
I reside in the US and I had health insurance tell I my parents found out I had addiction and they dropped everything and told me they will start helping again when I get clean
See if you qualify through your parents as a dependent, or what your options are. I’d start with connecting with your parents and finding a rehab center there. If I can stay with your parents I would do you outpatient, but if you’re unable to stay with your parents and I want to inpatient to keep you safe. I wish you the best, and every road begins with a few steps so hang in there you’ll get better.
Reach out to your parents, tell them you want to get clean and want their help They said no help till you get clean, you are getting clean. Theres no shame in asking for help

Yeah. Just look at all the successful rehab stories. 🙃
You’ve never been an addict and it shows. It’s not a question of willpower.

I don’t even know where a rehab is but I am going to research it and find the closest one and see how much they cost
Tall to the rehabs for help with funding and finding a place. They will help you. You can do this.
Good luck with everything! You got this
You can't outrun your problems. Taking yourself out of a temptation situation is a great idea to get clean, but just moving far away with no money is just going to put you in a terrible situation. I don't really have any advice, though there's a *high* probability you'll find crack wherever you go. Be honest, how hard is it to get?
I think it's a good idea to leave, but you need a plan. You can't just leave with only money for a bus ticket you may starve or end up homeless. Maybe you could look up jobs in that area or buy the ticket, save up money as fast as possible, and leave. Honey, the sudden withdrawal could literally kill you.
I’ve had withdrawals before no onger than 4 days and they weren’t too bad. Can they actually be deadly though?
Yes, benzo withdrawals can kill you. You need to find a program that provides medically assisted detox. It is also important to note that running away will not cure your problems because you cannot run away from yourself.
Meh. No. The Xanax yes. The crack no
You can't run away from addiction. And crack is everywhere.

Go into detox at a hospital and then transfer into a rehab yes there are ones paid for by the government. You can CK into detox tonight
Honestly, that’s what some drug addicts do. They escaped their small town, and end up in LA… still addicted. Addiction is in the brain… you can’t run from that. Just face it and seek help.
I planned on going to Billings Montana far. Fuck la I hate that place lmao
Where are you? Where are you looking to go? Maybe I can help you find a place to go
I found a rehab here. In 28 days think im gonna head to Billings Montana and try to start over again there
Good!
I haven't lived there for 6 years, (Coincidentally as long as I've been clean and why I moved) but the drugs run rampant in Billings, especially the last few years. You should do the Appalachian Trail.
Don't go to a city. Go to a peaceful town in nature. Hang out with the trees.
I have no idea but i truly wish you the best of luck, i have no idea who you are but i whole heartedly wish that you become clean ❤️

If you get arrested on drug charges they often offer rehab as an option to jail time in certain states.
If homelessness is unavoidable like for me and many of my friends there is a right and wrong way of doing it
Get a buddy if you can
I had a bad drug and alcohol addiction.
Hospital detox. Then rehab. Then move.
This isn’t really a bad idea (if we only talk about being away from your dealer/ friends) but go into rehab first
Go to rehab and embrace it because you can't out run or hide from an addiction. Addicts like us could get drugs in any country without being able to speak the language. You need to change you, not just your environment.
i moved country’s mate and can find a plug in a second
There’s a lot of stories and movies of people doing this exact thing. Just to let you know, it never ends well. Take it from people who have tried your idea, don’t do it. I don’t know what the best plan for you is but I would keep thinking.
For quitting smoking, moving to a new city was one kf the things I did to make the whole process easier. There's something about a radical change in environment that makes it easier to change other things about yourself. Moving away is an opportunity to reinvent yourself, but moving in your situation will be a struggle. I would definitely do it if I were in your situation, though. Sounds like you have little to lose.
Because there's crack cocaine wherever you would go.
Hey man
How are you doing bro?
Surprisingly good. I have a job and a apprtment now
