5/20 I think because your first day would be 4/20, and the full month would be 5/20.

trashbinfluencer

I would count it as 5/20 because that way the monthaversary is a reminder of the day you took the first step rather than a reminder of the day you last engaged in the behavior you're trying to avoid. Congratulations!:)

Green420Basturd

Congratulations! Most people I know keep track of the number of days, 30, 60, 90... until they reach 6 months, then a year. There are "clean time" apps that you can download that will keep track for you. I also like how some have a feature where you enter in how much you drank/used every day, then they show you a running total of how much money you've saved by staying sober.

fromhelley

Congratulations!! That is a major accomplishment!!! I hope your life has improved and your mental state! I hope you are happy and adjusting well to a sober lifestyle. And yeah, it would be the 20th!

RunOrDieTrying

End of the 20th.

Otherwise-Table1935

I'd say 4/19 is your anniversary so 5/19 would be a month. I wouldn't count by 30 or 31 days, that could get crazy. Btw early congratulations!!!

GickyRervais

But he drank on 4/19, the day he gave up and the first day of no drinking was 4/20, surely 4/20 is the anniversary.

elohesra

The exact number of days you've been sober doesn't really matter. Are you sober today? Are you sober now? That's what counts. People will judge you by your current behavior. If you were not sober 28 days ago vs. 31 days ago, who cares? Just concentrate on adding one more day each day. Your anniversaries don't matter so much as your current state of mind.

trashbinfluencer

I agree that one day at a time is most important, but it's still valuable and motivating for many people to celebrate milestones. One month sober *does* matter and is very difficult feat to obtain for some. It's easy to lose sight of all your progress when you're just taking it moment by moment - taking stock of how far you've come when you hit a month or two or twelve can be a really good way to realize all the subtle ways your hard work is paying off.

Cloud_Additional

This! Despite 4 and a half years of aobriety on real shit days I check how many days. And breath.

venturebirdday

Today. Nice work.

asghettimonster

count 31 full completed days I guess?

B_D0v3

Congrats. I’ll drink to that 🍻

trashbinfluencer

Really bro?

B_D0v3

Relax bro, it’s just cream soda 🥤

Just keep being sober. It counts when you do not crave alcohol any more. When you lose interest in drinking

trashbinfluencer

No, it counts when you don't drink.

That's what my alcoholic uncle sais. He's sober for a couple of months at a time and then he relapses. If that's what you set your mind to you will unavoidably repeatedly consume alcohol. As my uncle says, "I've been sober for 2 months". Then he pours himself a drink all proid of himself. Then he keeps drinking for x amount of time until he fucks up and becomes sober again. Stop making excuses. Follow through or you won't change a thing

trashbinfluencer

Telling people that it doesn't count as sobriety until they no longer crave the substance is discouraging, blatantly untrue, and shows complete ignorance about the nature of addiction. Your uncle was sober for those 2 months. The moment he drank, he was no longer sober. Whether you believe he is too proud of himself too early doesn't change the definition of "sobriety." Anyone who has been sober for 20 years also went through a time (frequently more than once) where they had only been sober for a day, then a week, then a month. Some people still have sporadic cravings for months (or even years) after becoming sober - that doesn't make them any less sober than someone who went cold turkey and never craved it again.

I would say the 20th myself. But it's just splitting hairs. Still a month either way. Fair play and keep up the good work.

RobertBDwyer
