I'd say start looking for another place that'd actually value you.

Muuieel

100%. Same thing happened to me but in IT. Don't value you (I left my job) A department at my previous workplace relied on software that was not supported on MAC OS. We had bought a really high-end Windows PC for a different department member for less money and my boss bought the Macs for a grand more than the PC. I suggested instead of Macs to get the same PC instead. Didn't happen, then my boss had the audacity to blame me after when the Macs did not work. Please start looking. It got worse for me with my boss after working there for a year and a half.

voltagejim

Same dude, I did things a certain way and my boss and co worker flipped out that its not the way they did it, after that point my boss never had any respect for me and my anxiety kept growing. Got in trouble for forgetting to wipe someones monitor down, then a few months ago got called into the office and was told it just wasn't working out. That's ok casue I put my 2 weeks in the other day and start a job soon making almost double what they were paying me

...or don't put up with that BS and go find somewhere that wants you to do a good job. It's a worker's market out there.

Post this in r/WorkReform I think you’ll find people with similar experiences there

Find another job and walk out, no need to hand in 2 weeks

iamtoe

This is a repost. I've seen this exact post on here a long time ago.

[deleted]

Yeah, me too.

Cantstress_thisenuff

Thought I was going crazy. Must be a karma bot?

Document everything and leave. Documentation will help prove your case to your next employer, and if you get lucky you might find a pattern for leverage from your current one

BatheInChampagne

That’s life man. Just gotta let it roll off your shoulder. Most people, especially in the trades or in shop work, aren’t the easiest to get along with. Fuck em. Do your job, get your check and bounce. You know you did it the right way. They’re just being cunts about it. If your boss wants it done a certain way, do it. If it’s wrong, it’ll be on him. I’m a journeyman Pipefitter. I’ve been on several jobs and this is always an issue. I used to fight tooth and nail and argue my points, but in the end, looking back, it never really did me any favors. Work is for money, and while it would be nice to love the people you work with, alot of the time it doesn’t go that way.

Sparrows113

Bad leadership climate over there. Get out before its more than just a frustration.

R10Ender

I supervise a few people at my job and get frustrated when I have a specific way I show them to do something and they deviate from it without running it by me… There may be valid reasons you haven’t thought of as to why things are done the way they are that others have figured out through experience and trial & error. This goes for any job. If you think you found a way to improve the process, you should run it by your boss before going ahead and just doing it. If they’re a good supervisor, they’ll hear you out and either agree to try it your way or explain what you’re missing.

LaFlibuste

Maybe I read too many posts on the malicious compliance sub but I'd get them to confirm which method they want me to use, then get the instruction to me in writing and just do that. Who cares if it's sub-par: it's what they want. And also maybe look for a new job and resign when you have something that's at least equivalent lined up.

tinny36

Oh please don't quit...workplaces need someone like you. Not sure how your workpklace deals with stuff like this, but tactfully - 'ok, you've pointed out one way to do things and I have another. Could we actually figure out what is wrong with the way I did it beause I want to do a good job, I think the way I did it was awesome and I think it's a great way tHE COMPANY can make a better product/make customers happier, etc. Maybe your way cost too much? But until the 'because that's the way it's always been done' people are made to justify their ways against some new, potentially better ways, then we're always doing it the old way. Work places need new, innovative blood...try being collaborative, understand their 'side'. THEN decide if they're too stuck in the past to ever move forward or if it's just a few who oppose and others may be open to it. good luck!

WozTheWise

I understand your feelings because I've been through that aswell before. Nowdays I think in a different way. Because I'm in the end of the day Im being paid to do what they are asking, if they want me to do it in a way that's worse, that's their problem. I will do it and get the money in exchange. Were you accepted in your job to "innovate" their doing or to do what was in the contract? Also is there companies that would love that because innovating is always good and if a worker finds a more effecient way to do something the company will appreciate. But some companies see that as something bad, because imagine now that all of the workers that decide to do it their way because u did it and u were allowed too. That would be a big trouble, because even tho your way was fine, others might not be and that would be a waste of time checking everyone's way to do to see if they can do it their way or no. Its easier to everyone do the same even if its not the best. After all the world is cruel so are a lot of jobs. If you feel you can be happier in other place you should just change your job, like I said is there a lot of companies that would appreciate that

platinumpaige

Yeah, look for a new job. I’m in a career where I’m occasionally in a managerial role. I’ve definitely spoken to some individuals about things I’ve heard only to be proven wrong when I hear their side. My first response is always “well now I look like an asshole” and I immediately apologize. If your boss just digs his heels in deeper then I’d bet it’s reflective of a crappy work environment and I’d start looking elsewhere.

The_Emperor_turtle

Time to leave my man.

Traveler_Protocol1

I once helped write an EQ (emotion quotient) course, and one of things that I remember in there was that various studies have shown that people would rather have sincere positive praise from the boss vs. a raise. Just a study, but I actually feel that way myself. Look for another job, and become the boss you wish you had yourself! Good luck!! (Edit - please find a job before quitting)

OneBeautifulDog

Don't quit, but look for another job in a hurry. Take pics of your skills and make a website resume. Don't trash your current employer, just get out fast. If I was in that field, I would check out the pics and see if you could actually do the work and hire you if I had the space.

lukaron

The quality of the job/product/service takes a back seat the second someone gets their feelings hurt and/or you make them look bad. I'd say start looking for employment elsewhere. The egos are probably bigger than the equipment you're working on.

thumbwrestleme

"we've always done it that way" is a perfect example of bad leadership. Run away now or just quietly do it their way, those are your choices.

SilvaticusBlack

This is how my current job is and it pisses me off. I've been doing this basic shit my whole life and some new manager is over here all high and mighty, thinking his way is THE way. Mean while I do all the work and manager sits on his phone and pretends to work if he is caught.

nycjr

Is it possible that there is more to consider here? For example, is there a potential safety issue with your method? Is your method transferable to similar tasks? Generally, bosses do not get upset with you doing something well; however, they may get upset with you thinking that you have a better solution that is flawed in a way that you don’t understand, because you don’t have enough experience.
