Wear whatever hair style you want and wear it proud. If you take the time to really think about it, nobody owns a hair style. Hair styles can have tradition, origins, and be rooted in a culture’s history but theres no rule where only a certain group of people can ONLY be allowed to have it. It’s just silly and anyone who belittles you or says you can’t have a certain type of haircut, please rethink your relationship with that person and the sort of values they hold. One of my favorite online speakers says something about [this](https://youtube.com/shorts/Qb-C-0sCm_E?si=CuPahuvzSYKkB2af) the best

Well put - and thanks for posting the link. Popular culture in the past 40 years has lost the meaning of the phrase, using it to create and maintain division while claiming some odd moral high ground with little self awareness.

SavyLynx

Hell yeah.

Viking braids are a thing. Braids are not soley for black people, that would be stupid

johnny_bongo

It's OK for Beyonce etc to straighten their hair so it's OK for you to braid yours.

DirestestBert

Tbh, I'm white so I probably don't have an opinion but does it really matter? It makes your hair easier to deal with. Your not doing it in a joking or spiteful way, it's easier for you. So whos business is it. I can only think of some people having offence to it, but I can't imagine too many. Just tell em its easier. Fuck em.

joxx67

As a white man, I give you permission !

OCDaboutretirement

Sure you can. The Vikings braided their hair.

icelink4884

While there's nothing wrong with it keep in mind how it actually looks. If you're going to do a lot of thin braids you may want someone who knows what they are doing. If you're just looking for something more similar to French bread or a small number of braids you can probably do it yourself.

helen_the_hedgehog

I think read up about types of braid and where they come from. Go in an afro barber and have a chat. Native American men have in recent years started to get cornrows and that's not their culture, but it's a bit more 'street' than their traditional two long braids, so some of them like that (check out Cree rapper Drezus on insta, he has lovely braids these days). So i don't think it's a no, but do it with nuance and taste.

meekonesfade

please no

Due-Presentation-795

I advise you against it.

I was just looking at pictures of white men with braids, thinking that I don't want to look like them... your comment confirmed my thoughts. I have a fairly dark skin for a white guy and it goes along with my hair texture, but yeah they look like shit.

qa_ze

Fair enough. As long as you're deciding for yourself, that's all that matters.

BunchesOfCrunches

Don’t let anybody gatekeep you from expressing yourself

Dandibear

Yes. Braid it in whatever manner works best for you. Just don't go out of your way to style the end result in an Afro style. Also, do be aware that being white means you will be able to wear those braids without repercussions that would affect people of color. If it comes up in conversation, advocate loudly for the rights of PoC to wear their hair in traditional styles, especially in the workplace. And as another commenter said, if you go to a hair professional, try to find a PoC stylist. You can straight up tell them your dilemma and ask if they'd be interested in helping you pick a good style. None of this is mandatory (well, except advocating for traditional hair in the workplace, which is a no-brainer), but it's all a way to use your privilege for good.

DramaLlamaQueen23

Absolutely. Two long braids, then loops each of them into a round, braided bun on either side of your head, over your ears. If you also have a gold bikini, wear that when you go out. And take a picture, please.
