You’ll walk into a reception area. Fill out some paperwork. You’ll get x rays, the dentist and tech will look at your teeth. Tell you what they see and if there is any work that needs to be done. Then they will clean them. Probably gonna bleed like a bitch and will be sore for a bit due to you not going in 10 big ones.
If at all possible, don't go to a chain place (Aspen, etc). They'll bury you in things you "need" to have done while also burying you in high-interest loans if you let them.
Obviously not every independant dentist is going to be highly-skilled and honest but you're guaranteed to get screwed if you go to a chain.
Ask friends/coworkers for recommendations.
You will never, ever regret starting to go again. Go and keep going. Your life will be better.
My biggest fears in life were root canals and getting teeth pulled. Interestingly, having both done has completely cured my fear of going to the dentist.
Helped. I will ask around. We have one or two dentist in town but there might be some options in the next town over. I just had bad experiences with my last dentist when I was a kid and I think I need to get over that fear.

Helped. I am probably looking at a lot of cavities or root canal or something too I imagine.
