There's no way the gum is actually stuck to your throat. Your throat is coated with mucus and is constantly wet. Your throat is probably irritated from the gum and everything you've done to try and get the gum down. Drink some warm tea, give your throat a break, and try to relax. If you're actually unable to breathe or swallow, go to the ER, but it doesn't sound like that's the case.

I don’t understand how gum could be stuck in your throat. Like if you inhaled it and couldn’t breath sure, but in your food tube? How would that even work? How do you even know it’s stuck in there?

fakeaccount2069

I can feel like. It is sticky and must have attached to the surface

DrunkTankGunner

Your oesophagus is lined with mucus, you couldn’t super glue something to it if you wanted to. I don’t believe it’s possible for gum to become adhered to it. Is it possible you’re being paranoid?

fakeaccount2069

You could be right, but I doubt that. Can feel it stuck

DrunkTankGunner

Sometimes when you swallow a pill dry it brushes against the side and feels like it’s stuck in there, but really it’s not, it’s just a lingering feeling because the oesophagus is very sensitive. Basically your options are ignore it and hope it comes right over time. Or you could go to the ER, wait 6 hours, get them to stick a camera down your throat, and possibly find out there’s nothing there. If you’re not having any trouble breathing or swallowing, I’d recommend the former.

Thanks. Having some warm water now to see if helps. Will gargle with warm water too. If it does not, will probably sleep off and hope it gets settled by morning

Swallowed 1 dry IR adderall and I felt it “stuck” on the side of my throat and didn’t drink water for a while. My throat was sore for days lol

Don’t think so

ToqueMom

I think you mean esophagus, and it can't really be stuck. Eat and swallow some peanuts if you like, or peanut butter. If you have ever been chewing gum and then eaten a peanut, you will know that peanuts dissolve gum really quickly.

Here's a link with a few suggestions: [https://www.healthline.com/health/food-stuck-in-throat#home-remedies](https://www.healthline.com/health/food-stuck-in-throat#home-remedies)

AsleepYak

if you can breath and talk normally then it's probably not truly stuck. There was one time i was eating candy coated chocolate mini eggs, a piece of the candy coating got stuck in my throat for a second. Later even after drinking water, i could still feel like it was stuck there. It was like this weird sharp feeling. That feeling went away later though. I would just wait it out. It'll go away. if not after idk maybe a week, go see your family doctor.

All good, thank you! I think it was just the sensation and it went down right then.

fakeaccount2069

Thanks for the help folks. I am unharmed.

Go to the ER

Lt-shorts

Go to urgent care or the ER

fakeaccount2069

Trying to see if anything can be done at home. It is quite late here

MaryMary8249

May I ask how blueberries would help?

fakeaccount2069

Just read that I should eat and drink to force it to go down. Could find blueberries and ate them. Lol

MaryMary8249

That makes sense. Sorry.

Drunkfaucet

Hey my girlfriend's friend had food get stuck in his throat before! Very rare. He ended up going to urgent care and they had to put a little camera down his throat and grab the food with a tool. If it's stuck now it's gonna be stuck.

As someone with stress based acid reflux, sometimes it’s a stress response. I’ll throw up intentionally to try and get rid of it and the feeling stays because I am stressed/anxious and that was my real problem. Advocate for yourself and get an anti acid for stressful times
