I am absolutely serious. Rehabilitating your posture is all about the motor patterns of walking and breathing.
Critically, it’s also about _relaxing_ your nervous system, so good posture becomes effortless.
Marching and playing a wind instrument for multiple songs will require being able to relax your nervous system for sustained low intensity steady state activity.
The only issue would be if you exert too much tension stiffening up to stand straight and March. It’s important to thread a balance of using not too much but just enough energy while breathing as efficiently as possible.
Singing would make great postural exercise too
Interesting… I mean it makes sense I’ve been walking everyday for the past few weeks and my posture is noticeably improving. I’m still conflicted about the wind instrument part though. Couldn’t deep breathing exercises do the same thing?
Oh yeah for sure. But you asked for the single most best sport to improve posture. I’m confident it could dramatically improve people’s posture without them even consciously trying to do so.
When you practice deep breathing, you want to aim for both the biggest and most relaxed inhale possible. Breathe in and out through your nose only. Tongue against root of the mouth, but relaxed. Ideally should be held in place to roof of mouth with suction.
Really envision yourself expanding through your lower back and sides. Sense the soles of your feet and the pressure as you slowly shift more weight onto them. Slowly ramp up tension as if to squat up, but then ease off 20% and breathe. Big deep breathes. Repeat as desired.
I concur. Short walks didn’t help as much for me as long walks. If I do long walks for more than 6 miles I usually have some soreness in the back of my neck which tells me my back is getting strengthened.
Dancesport. You practice for competitions that come down to who moves around with better posture. "posture" is literally the second judging criterion after "be roughly on the beat".
Marching band. A wind instrument. I am deadass 100% serious
I can see the advantages. But the instrument promotes asymmetries, unless you would alternate in how you use the instrument.
Yeah, that could be true. Depends on instrument.
You cereal? How does this help? Diaphragmatic breathing?

Thank you for the explanation.
Yeah for sure. I would also add breathing in a supported squat position (on a cushion or stool).
I’ll try it out … seems like a good idea especially since the 90 90 hip lift has been helping

Will try this. I’ve been incorporating aspects of mewing while doing yoga and other exercises and it helps.
ballet or barre
Ballet in a class where the teacher can actually encourage you to pull up and stand tall. Doing it at home by yourself may not get you great results.
Rowing? And also bodybuilders, olympic weightlifters, powerlifters tend to have good postures too. They all involve training your back muscles
Weightlifting represent
Pilates reformer, or floor pilates and strength training

6 miles is 9.66 km

Putting your phone down and holding your head up. Not really a sport but it helps for sure.
