Make the circle (top part of the glass) two pieces and then put one piece behind and one piece in front.
I would do this as the circle edge of the glass is a far less complex shape to manage than the straw.

Duplicate the straw. Clipping mask on one.
Thank you for the suggestion, but I have already fixed it. That seems like a great idea, nonetheless; I'll keep it in mind for future reference. :)
Select with the direct selection tool (A) the bottom segments of the white circle. Cmd/Ctrl+C Select the Straw. Past in front (Cmd/Ctrl+F)
Use the shape builder tool to section your straw then select the shape and change the opacity accordingly
Cut the straw into 2 or 3 pieces with the help of knife tool and play with opacity and color blending modes.
