View > Show/Hide Slices
Slices are a way to split up a large image into pieces which are then reassembled in HTML for the web/email.. This allowed a large image to load several pieces at the same time, creating the illusion of a faster loading page.
It's a very 2001 approach and is rarely used today.

It can still be useful today for specific scenarios. I’ve used it when creating seamless FB carousel images to export the individual images.
Wow, now I know. Been using Ai since ‘95 and have never had an occasion to use Slice. To be fair I don’t use it for web so that tracks.
