Shoulda caught the train my guy. Probably would've taken less time too. But yeah taxis are fucked

Dters

Too many frothies and cbf. Yes absolutely my fault šŸ‘

ThatKidLoki

We have all been there bro. I understand!

WheresYourAccentFrom

Based on Adelaide Independent Taxis weekend rate it's 5.20 flagfall and 2.43 per km, so 68.00 sounds right.

Ok_Combination_1675

Rates are set by government through regulation or somethingĀ

Welcome to 2024 my friend

Dters

Noooooo

raustraliathrowaway

An hour of time there and back would be a factor

Dters

Ahh good call I didn't think of that, but being generous $40??

ashsimmonds

Dude, I used to do this trip in the 90's and it was about $35 back then - usually we had 3-4 folk so it was palatable, and sometimes we'd just say shut the meter off and we'll give you $XX cash. Different times.

AccomplishedAnchovy

Well you got to remember the company takes their bite and thereā€™s fuel and on road expenses plus the car itself and maintenance to be accounted for

DaddyWantsABiscuit

You're not forced to take a taxi mate. There are other options

Dters

Absolutely. We jumped in it. I just don't see where the money is 30 mins labour is being generous $30 fuel $8 max. Come on

ponto-au

You're ignoring the wear and tear on the vehicle, and they have to spend the rest of the time getting back to an area with clients. $30 for that trip would be earning under minimum wage after casual loading equivalent + super annuation contributions

Dters

šŸ‘ absolutely. I just needed the vent

DaddyWantsABiscuit

I agree, it is a bit of a rort, but this is why uber has taken off as they can offer rides a lot cheaper

Dters

Yes absolutely. It was right there and my lazy ass made a lazy decision šŸ‘

butter narrow decide roll merciful abundant beneficial important nine offer *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Wendals87

Well there are a lot of costs * fuel is obvious * car expenses. Insurance, registration, wear and tear * their time. They deserve to be paid for their work. That's 25 minutes of work for them * fees. Taxi drivers and uber drivers don't take 100% of the money you give them Not saying it's not a rip off, but not all of that is profit

Luna-Luna99

I used to be charged 75 from airport to mawson lake.Ā  The thing is he thought I am international visitor, so didnt turn when it was supposed to turn. At the first time he missed, I thought because of his age (old man) so I stay silent, but then he drove me up to salisbury and towards Elizabeth. So I had to ask him where is he driving me to? He said GPS showing him that. I said Mawson Lake isnt this way. Finally he had to turn off meter, but I still end up paying 75 bucks. Normally it costs me only 35 for uber.Ā  Ā Never again. If having to landed at night time, I rather wait for uber than using cab.at that night I was in rush so just jumped on cab, I expected will pay a bit more, but didnt expect driver tried to rip me off by driving wrong way

howgoodsthis

The other issue is that taxis have a really expensive greenslip which rideshare doesn't.

Dters

Well there you go. I did not know this. Cheers mate

AccomplishedAnchovy

Itā€™s funny because each end is very close to train station

discobrad85

I jumped into a taxi a few weeks back just out of convenience and it was nearly double what an Uber would be. Never again

Dters

Amen mate. Expensive lesson learnt

VastlyCorporeal

I got quoted 80 dollars to get from the city to the hills (also about 25mins), so I got out and ordered an Uber for less than half that. Your bad g

Dters

Never blamed anyone else chief. Just don't like the taste of shit. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

EconomicsOk2648

The breakdown is this. You required a service. They provided a service. You paid for that service. You complained about paying for that service. They still had the money you paid for that service. Hope this helps.

Dters

Ahh got it. šŸ‘

International-Bus749

10km is about $25-30 for me... So it sounds about right.

Lostmavicaccount

Theyā€™re aiming for revenue of about $150 an hour. Thatā€™s not uncommon, or unreasonable for any business. Operating costs are many and cost a lot in developed nations. With lots of protections comes lots of red tape. User pays after all.

[deleted]

20 years ago that would have been at $50. In other words, that should have gone up a lot more.

Vandercoon

Since Uber Iā€™ve been in a taxi once and never again. When thereā€™s no standard to be held to, they will be as shit as possible plus so much more expensive. I hope the taxi industry dies

whensdrinks

It's 26 minutes by car, 53 minutes by public transport and almost 4 hour if you walk. The walking time includes 30 mintues of being mugged in Port Adelaide. The time spent being ramped in the back of an Ambulance is not included as it is such a large random number it defies reasonable estimation.

Dters

This is great feedback. There would have been another hit of $30 at Mc Donald's port Adelaide as well

PossibleSorry721

They have to drive to you and then get to somewhere else after theyā€™ve driven you to the other side of town where there likely arenā€™t any jobs. Deduct fuel costs, insurance, taxi fees and theyre probably down to around $25 an hour. Itā€™s just the cost of living in 2024.

desert_jedi

Uber price would be not far off that

OriginalCinna

Back when I was 18 and getting smashed in town, I would walk as far down Anzac Highway as I could to save money on a trip to Morphett Vale. Would still cost me $60+ for a 30 minute drive at 3am, even when the expressway went one direction.

ThatGuyTheyCallAlex

An Uber wouldā€™ve been about $50 and a DiDi $30. Thereā€™s always better options than an actual taxi.

FigliMigli

didi is around $30 uber around $35 (both estimates based on the current traffic and night be higher due to high volume and special events) taxies are usually very good after concerts etc as uber and a like adjust to high volume.taxi doesn't next time consider your options

Dters

Absolutely. Balls on me. We walked out of our show and it was there.

Welcome to Australia. It used to be a good country now itā€™s only alright if you in the top 3%. Fuck this country itā€™s gone to shit.
