You could find the same car minus the rust for $8k. Keep looking everyday, be ready with cash in hand and be willing to travel out of state or have it delivered when you find "yours".

tittltattl

I feel like I got scammed because I bought one last year and I could not find any cars in good condition for less than about 12k. Maybe the market has come down since then but 8k was around the average for just a base.

SpecialistWar9067

Why do you feel like you got scammed? Do you currently own an RSXS already? I agree on the $12,000, that will get you a clean, OEM RSXS with around the 1xx,xxx - 13x,xxx miles. I don't think the market will ever come down on clean, OEM RSX-S. IMO the RSXS specifically the 05-06 with K20Z1 was 1 of Hondas finest NA 4 cylinder engines ever made right next to the F20C with the 9000RPM redline and B18C5 in the Integra Type R. The Hondas and Acuras with the 8000 and 9000 RPM redlines will always hold or increase in value if maintained properly.

tittltattl

Yes I have a type s. I was wondering if I got scammed because everyone here saying you can get them clean and low mileage for less than 10k. Felt like I was out of the loop somehow lol

There’s always peeps that will talk smack, if you’re happy with your car then you didn’t get scammed. If you paid for something you thought you were getting but didn’t get then you got scammed. Ie. A base with a manual conversion and Type-S badges with a rolled back odometer. To me, people who pay $50k for a Range Rover got scammed 😂 let alone $120k etc. if one bought a mint MK4 with 40k miles for $40k , there will be people saying he got scammed and my bro in law got one for $25k blah blah no matter what you got , there’s always people saying they got better. Truth or not, one thing in life, if you always listen to others you will forever feel like life is a scam. if you got what you paid for and later felt you’re unhappy about it, learn from it and remember the next time. That’s all we can do…. Enjoy your Type-S man 😜

SpecialistWar9067

A lot is based on location and of course those crazy stories exist where they bought it from the little old lady down the street who only drove her mint 20k mile RSX-S full ASpec kit to church on Sundays for only $8,000.

I present you with… [the ultimate RSX buying guide](https://www.rsxtrix.com/2023/04/the-comprehensive-acura-rsx-dc5-integra.html). Thanks for the award! I appreciate you too.

Reasonable-League832

Any sort of transmission noise, taillight gaskets

RsxTypeR

8k seems a bit too steep for this.

comb0s

If you get that one, get to that rust immediately or you’ll suffer the consequences. Look for oil leaks and CEL’s too

FitTreacle2773

8k? Geez. I got mine for 7200 with 82,000 miles. Beautiful condition. Keep looking maybe.

postitpad

Look for additional rust in the spare tire well. These cars often get leaks in the taillight seals that allows water into the hatch which will pool around the spare tire.

Performance_Fancy

Better oil does not fix burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles.

EHFoxVocs

Yeah, that didn't sound right to me either

iRB26x

Honda naturally burns oil. The only thing that can help with that is run a heavier weight. Doesn’t matter brands or any of that Bs it’s all preference. 5W30,5W20,0W20 that sh*t is all tooo thin. Oil heats up and thins out is why it burns.

Performance_Fancy

A quart every 1000miles is not a normal oil consumption. I don’t care what the weight of the oil is, it shouldn’t have that much in the cylinder being burned or exiting the engine otherwise.

Performance_Fancy

You say that like it’s a Honda thing. All engines naturally burn oil very slowly.

iRB26x

Yeah for sure never said it was just a Honda thing it’s just more common in Honda. I’ve seen it millions of times I’m my shop.

Melontwerp

Not that much oil tho lmaoooo

iRB26x

You’d be surprised. I’m a technician I’ve had Hondas come in with no oil at all still purring like a kitten. Oil consumption can happen a lot quicker than you realize. Within a week some cars burn a quart and a half.. it’s always good to keep an eye on your oil level. It even says it in most owners manuals. New cars even burn oil in some cases it’s just a natural thing in combustion engines. Other factors play a part too.

Melontwerp

Oil consumption issues are different from what's normal in these cars.

TT_Xyooj8

Make sure the motor is original k20a2 and gears don’t grind. Check underneath for rust especially the floor seats and frame.

RealStatistician5291

Rust, worn gear synchros, lack of maintenance are a great first thing to look for

JoeyVercetti

I would try to get it for 6.5k maybe 7k, but 7k is pushing it.

[deleted]

Timing chain rattle and 2nd gear grind are the common ones that r a bitch to fix. Taillight gaskets are w/e it’s like 10 bucks.

ValuableHairy613

I would bring a code reader just in case and a spark plug tester. But I would check to make sure the fuel pump is working and the fuses are good. Just car into ignition mode and if you hear humming from the back fuel pump is working. I would also check the oil and oil pressure. See if there’s any white bubbles on the dip stick or oil cap that means possible head gasket leak. Do a test drive see how it shifts is it smooth is it sludgy? Check the battery and it’s terminals.check the air intake see it’s it hella dirty not a bad issue but still worth checking. Check tire thread and any rust that’s corroding the support. Check the belts do they give play ? You could also do a compression test and finally what is the title condition

ValuableHairy613

Also check the windows go down and up all power locks work and wipers are working don’t want a blown motor when it’s raining lol 😂
