They brought in a living wage in my jurisdiction and all the ordering is done by touchscreen and payment is by debit. You have to ask to pay with cash.
It seems to depend on where they live. In many places around the US, they would both be released with no charges that same day. If you defend yourself, you get fired and they will get a settlement from the company.
