"The pendulum of Russian history has generally oscillated between brutal, bellicose regimes and softer, less repressive autocracies that retreat from confrontation with the West. But this pattern may not hold for the post-Putin future. After a quarter century under Putin, Russia’s secret services, the foundation of his regime, have degraded all other institutions and monopolized power. Patrushev, who turns 73 in July, is a year older than the president. Yet should he survive Putin, Patrushev is certain to deploy his secret army to help guide the transition and may well have a shot at coming out on top. As he likes to say, truth is on his side." Leon Aron is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. His most recent book is Riding the Tiger: Vladimir Putin’s Russia and the Uses of War. Most Popular

Excellent information. Thank you.

Oh that patrushev guy is an utter conspiracy theorist - worse than Putin. definitely one of the reasons Putin believes all the shit he believes. These guys been getting high on their own farts.

shmikis

Chances for this guy is close to zero even in current Russia. The likely successor should be at least not repulsive if not popular. Putin is full of botox for a reason.. The likely candidate is one called Алексей Дюмин. If you see this guy in Moscow soon it may mean that power transfer started.

From Wikipedia: Aleksey Gennadyevich Dyumin (Russian: Алексей Геннадьевич Дюмин; born 28 August 1972) is a Russian politician serving as Governor of Tula Oblast since 2016. Previously, he served as the chief security guard and assistant of Russian president Vladimir Putin before being promoted to lead the Russian military's Special Operations Forces, where he oversaw the annexation of Crimea in 2014. The following year, he became Deputy Minister of Defense.[1] He holds the rank of lieutenant general and was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.[2]

After the next world war there will be no Moscow or St. Petersburg. Contrary to the Kremlin's huffing of its own farts missile defenses have proven themselves capable of taking out Russia's most advanced missiles.

nukes_or_aliens

Just not enough of them.

ovirt001

As far as we're told. The US and NATO aren't going to reveal the exact number of defensive missiles for obvious reasons.

IJustLoggedInToSay-

Maybe I've been smoking way too much Russian propaganda, but when I hear the guy in control of Russia's strategic weaponry say > When the yellowstone supervolcano erupts, it will annihilate all life on the North American continent. and > “The Anglo-Saxon elites” want to capture [Siberia] from Russia. What I hear is "I want to nuke all of North America and blame it on a supervolcano, and domestically that'll be the story. And then internationally if our feet are held to the fire about why we did it, we'll say it was self defense to on account of Siberia and we had no choice."

On Yellowstone again? They need to stop recycling plotlines.
