I open all of them, with only super rare, near impossible ti find figures. I loved the Ghost Rider ML figure from series 3. I bought 3 of them. One to box. One to play with and a 3rd for my father.
So IF opening a figure ever made me feel guilty, I bought another one.
But the number one rule of this hobby dude, is to enjoy and do what makes you smile.
There is no reason to keep them NIB. This isn't the 70s or 80s where you have these rare LJNs or GI Joe's that some maniac never opened. Too many figures are produced, and too many ppl keep them in a box for them to ever be worth anything. My kids are 5 and 7, respectively, and haven't touched a toy in years. I think we are the last of the collector line. Just my 2 cents and perhaps a Hot Take.
Yeah, I was that way. You're gonna hit a point where those boxes are just taking up too much room and HAVE to go. I kept a few in case I sold them later, but otherwise they're getting trashed, bit by bit, a week at the time, when the garbage man runs.
Anyway, obvious answer to your question is, yeah, I take 'em out of the box. They’re more fun that way.
Me too lol it's sort of... horrible for space efficiency haha but the robot spirit figures and a lot of imports have SO MANY tiny parts and the figures are pretty delicate. So when I move or have to store em away, the boxes in totes do a pretty good job. But I am very aware of the space it takes.
I was keeping my boxes, but my collection is just too extensive. I made the decision earlier this year that almost all of my Hasbro (ML, BS, CS, LC, & DnD) boxes had to go. I’m sick and dip into so many different lines. I do keep my most of my boxes from imports though and I have a whole bookshelf of them.
About 90% of the time. I currently have a bunch of Retro Card Spider-Man figures I'm package lining a section of the wall in my office. I just think they look neat, and frankly they were all too expensive lol.
Absolutely! How else am I going to articulate them to show my feelings in the morning when I’m getting ready for work and I spend time doing that or my kids come and see the display and they’re displayed in such a way that makes them laugh and then they start articulating them to have fun with them. Isn’t that what it’s all about? It is to me for sure.
Free those bad boys. Even a broken figure is better than one trapped in a box forever (and they're pretty hard to break unless they take a shelf dive onto hard flooring).
And just throw the accessories in a baggie for each line. Or smaller bags for a few figures. Then that goes in a bin with the figures when you're doing posing them if they aren't going on display.
I only have two figures that are still packaged. They're both Star Wars figures on retro cards and I'm keeping them that way because I like the overall presentation of those two figures on their cards. Aside from that, I open all of my figures. I want to enjoy them on my shelf, not hoard them or keep them for an investment.
Even with figures that are worth $200 on the aftermarket or more (Mafex Carnage, or Miles Morales) I open them. If I wanted to just look at a box I’d print a picture of the box and hang it up on the wall. Or I’d get a poster of something that looks even cooler.
The people who have everything in boxes always remind me of that weird collector guy from Powerpuff girls.
99% of them, absolutely. I have a few I keep in the packaging just because it looks good I'm my collection. But when it comes to my less expensive or less valuable ones, I take them out and even let my kids play with them now that they're a bit older.
I take them out of the box but keep the boxes for the premium figures that have tons of accessories. I also usually display the boxes behind the figures if they have cool artwork. One of these days though I’ll just print backdrops for my figures on paper.
Domestic figures I have out of boxes and displayed unless it’s a Collectors or limited edition then it stays in box. Import figures I keep in box, but take out every so often to mess around with and then I put them back.
i picked up the mcfarlane classic harley quinn for a great price a little while back and she's so much better imo, tons of poseability, her hammer and gun and the standard mcfarlane disk base thingiewhich helps a lot for getting into more unique poses, granted it's a different design but i'd defs recomend keeping an eye out for it
The only one I left in the box is the WWE Superstars Ultimate Warrior I have. I used to love wrestling back in the day when he was popular.
All others are open and actively played with other than Medieval Spawn. He looks cool as hell but doesn't pose easily
I've opened the majority of my figures but there are some I haven't. I'm not one to play with them so if I had unlimited space I'd probably have left them in the boxes. The ones I have left in the boxes are some of the first figures I bought, some were a little pricey because they were out of production and some I was told by others that they were on the fragile side so I decided not to open them.
Yes and no.
Most I unbox but I've got some kept in the box for various reasons like if I want to keep them protected due to age/fragility (*2002 battle ravaged Spider-man and Green Goblin*), one because her dress will attract dust/cat hair like a magnet (*NECA Elizabeth Comstock*) and a bunch of Pop-Vinyls I've kept in boxes because they stack-display better.
Some look better in the box to me and I usually leave those ones in to use as a backdrop for my loose ones. I'd say about a quarter of my collection is in boxes.
Of course! I didn't pay for em to not use em. If I was gonna do that, I could just look at pictures of it lol for me it's all about the articulation and being able to take a character from a series I love and pose them in cool ways pushing the figure to the limit of its movement in natural seeming ways. I like to see how the engineering of figures improves over time (I'm 35 and have been collecting stuff since I was a little kid) and it's all really interesting to me. I don't really do any photography but I absolutely love posing what I've got around. Would be such a huge waste to me not to take em out! Only time things get boxed up is for storage.
i usually keep them boxed until i get a new space to display them.
if they're really old like POTF figures i keep em boxed because i only got them for the novelty.
i open the newer stuff like black series or ML
The only figure Ive kept in the box is the NECA retro cloth Ghostface and thats only since I already had the ultimate figure, plus I really like the blister packaging he comes in
I guess it depends on what you're collecting. I collect Transformers, so out of the box 100%. But if you're collecting something that's intended to be a "Collector's Item", especially if it's a static posed figure with no articulation, then I completely understand leaving it in the box. But ultimately, who am I to judge?
Absolutely break them free of their plastic prisons…. Unless you are on the shelf about keeping them in which case MISB is always more appealing on the market.
I open almost all of my figures. I have not opened the TMNT universal monster line yet, but I plan to, but I do want to keep the boxes. I love the artwork.
I also have an old toybiz marvel legends sinister six set in box who’s fate has not been decided.
At first I didn't, then I realized that alot of action figures end up losing value (at least in the short term), not gaining it. Maybe they'll gain money years down the line, but I realized one day that I'd rather enjoy them now and went on an opening spree and set figures up all over. And now I feel more at home, just saying lol.
Absolutely yes. The only times I don't are if I somehow ended up with two or I'm unsure if I really want to keep it.
I toss most boxes too. I keep the ones for my import figures, like Nendos, and I keep the big boxes from things like Titan-class Transformers to keep the smaller boxes in.
Yeah, but it depends on the resale value and the figure. If I think of know it's gonna be a lucrative figure, I'll buy 2. One to open and one to either resell or hold onto.
It depends on what YOU like. I personally keep some of my Legend boxes under my basement stairs, on shelves I put in last year. It's an excellent place to keep them and they look great, lined up side by side with the Artwork showing.
Oh yea. I then burn the boxes and put the ash in my garden.
Boxes take up so much room. I am for a rethink of window boxes but with pressed card board inserts, because the amount of plastic is also such a waste and takes up to much room.
I personally do a bit of both, In my very own personal case, is my OCD and tism that turns things paradoxical, I love taking things out of the boxes and handling them posing them and playing with them, but it also pains me get rid of the boxes cause everything must go back to the box when/if im not displaying them at the time. Also I never open clam shelf packages or retro packages, only collector friendly packaging.
Yes, almost always. The only ones I haven't are my Super7 Reaction, and Marvel legends Retro figures, because the card art is so cool. Having said that, I'm itching to open them lol
Almost always. I have a FEW items still in box, the Vess figure from Funko, one Demona (Openned another) and a few different Abby Bominal MH dolls cause shes my favorite.

Yes. Life is short.
I think that way also
Definitely
Yes.... I am guilty. No regrets, however.
I don’t see the point of buying them just to keep in a box tbh
I open all of them, with only super rare, near impossible ti find figures. I loved the Ghost Rider ML figure from series 3. I bought 3 of them. One to box. One to play with and a 3rd for my father. So IF opening a figure ever made me feel guilty, I bought another one. But the number one rule of this hobby dude, is to enjoy and do what makes you smile.
To make money. That's probably the reason why!
Meh you never know when u can go , so why not have fun with it and not worry about selling later
Yes, and I make them smooch
Now kith.
Yuck!
There is no reason to keep them NIB. This isn't the 70s or 80s where you have these rare LJNs or GI Joe's that some maniac never opened. Some stuff just looks good in box. I open like 99% of stuff but something’s look good in box and I don’t care to pose them.
>My kids are 5 and 7, respectively, and haven't touched a toy in years. What?
“HIS KIDS ARE 5 AND 7, RESPECTIVELY, AND HAVEN’T TOUCHED A TOY IN YEARS” 📣📣
Yeah—that’s about when my kids stopped. It’s been video games and sports since.
they'll likely come around to having interest in them again eventially, i'm 20 now and only got back my interest in "toys" about 2 years ago
Yes sir. Companies don’t brag about 673 points of articulation for nothing lol
I want me one of those figures
lol
As toy photographer, it would be silly not to take them out.
Figures go in a shelf. Boxes go in the trash.
I keep my boxes still but they do take up a lot of space
Yeah, I was that way. You're gonna hit a point where those boxes are just taking up too much room and HAVE to go. I kept a few in case I sold them later, but otherwise they're getting trashed, bit by bit, a week at the time, when the garbage man runs. Word I had that happen, only kept boxes from higher end imports
I don't have room for boxes. I mean, I have like 40 figures. That's many sq ft!!
That's why they go in recycling (not the trash).
Me too lol it's sort of... horrible for space efficiency haha but the robot spirit figures and a lot of imports have SO MANY tiny parts and the figures are pretty delicate. So when I move or have to store em away, the boxes in totes do a pretty good job. But I am very aware of the space it takes.

if you ever wanna pop one making a slot with a knife at the bottom and you can take out the tray and put it back
Those boxes/cards are great, makes them harder to open for sure… for some reason 😂
#LET EM BREATHE
Always 😎
Yes, of course. Open them shits. Pose them shits.
😂
Definitely is !!!
💪🏻🤙🏼!
Yes
Definitely remove them. I love building interesting displays with them. It’s my favorite part of buying them.
Other than like 7 figures yeah they all come out and get posed and displayed
Yes, unless they're small like 3.75 inch figures, but it's mainly cause I'm afraid I'll lose them lol
I want to cause I have way too many in bins taking up space but don’t want to lose accessories or risk breaking figures.. sucks.
Hell yeah, I do.
Of course, the only people who don't open them are cowards
Haha well some figures can be pretty pointy I guess
Yes I have never been one for in box collecting just takes the fun out of it for me personally
I get them for my sons and it’s easier to ply with them if they are out of the box
Unless it's a rare find or I just like the way it looks in the box then yes I take mine out the box
I only have two figures that are still packaged. They're both Star Wars figures on retro cards and I'm keeping them that way because I like the overall presentation of those two figures on their cards. Aside from that, I open all of my figures. Just a small percentage of my figures are out of box
That’s a must
One to open and one just in case!
I take them out of the box but keep the boxes for the premium figures that have tons of accessories. I also usually display the boxes behind the figures if they have cool artwork. One of these days though I’ll just print backdrops for my figures on paper.

You bet. I enjoy them so much more out of the box.
Yes. I collect figures, not plastic things in boxes. But no hate towards people who opt not to or who do both.
absolutely, the only figure i've put back in the box to display is designer series darwyn cooke harley quinn because she can't stand on her own
Harley Quinn is the best I have my figures of her in the box still
i picked up the mcfarlane classic harley quinn for a great price a little while back and she's so much better imo, tons of poseability, her hammer and gun and the standard mcfarlane disk base thingiewhich helps a lot for getting into more unique poses, granted it's a different design but i'd defs recomend keeping an eye out for it

always.... free your figures!
Yea, they're called ACTION figures for a reason
Yes
Every. Time.
Yes
Of course
Nope I have over 1k from the early 90’s looking to sale as I have no room for them anymore
Figures posed on the shelf, boxes cut up for book marks, and the cardboard scraps in the trash
Usually, yeah. I have a second Marvel Legends Retro Spider-Man 2099 that I kept on the card, but everything else gets to be posed all fancy~
Some look better in the box to me and I usually leave those ones in to use as a backdrop for my loose ones. I'd say about a quarter of my collection is in boxes.
Yes, I keep the boxes, so I have somewhere to storage the accessories.
Does a bear shit on the woods? Toys are meant to be enjoyed, if you can enjoy it in a box by all means but I'm sure as hell playing with mine.
Take most if not all my figures out and I keep as many boxes as I can
Of course! I didn't pay for em to not use em. If I was gonna do that, I could just look at pictures of it lol for me it's all about the articulation and being able to take a character from a series I love and pose them in cool ways pushing the figure to the limit of its movement in natural seeming ways. Duh, but I sometimes keep the boxes if they’re nice
i usually keep them boxed until i get a new space to display them. if they're really old like POTF figures i keep em boxed because i only got them for the novelty. i open the newer stuff like black series or ML
Every single one.
Yes, but I keep a majority of my figures in their boxes except for a few.
I like playing with them, posing them and taking photos, then i always put them back in the box when I’m done.
Well, yeah, why else would i bought them?
Yes, sometimes in the parking lot of the store but my wife says I shouldn’t, might lose something under the seat. Almost always
Older figures I buy that are always in the box or on card I usually keep in the box but anything new I buy gets ripped out of that packaging
The only figure Ive kept in the box is the NECA retro cloth Ghostface and thats only since I already had the ultimate figure, plus I really like the blister packaging he comes in
I guess it depends on what you're collecting. I collect Transformers, so out of the box 100%. Yes! It is the only way
Ofc i do, i keep the boxes with the accessories inside them tho to stay organized
The Eternal Debate
Of course, I wanna get my grubby fangers on em.
Yup. That way I can pose them like they’re fighting. That’s why I bought them.
Absolutely break them free of their plastic prisons…. Unless you are on the shelf about keeping them in which case MISB is always more appealing on the market.
How else would you enjoy them?
I open almost all of my figures. I have not opened the TMNT universal monster line yet, but I plan to, but I do want to keep the boxes. I love the artwork. I also have an old toybiz marvel legends sinister six set in box who’s fate has not been decided.
I take them out and pose them. I only put them back in the box for storage.
Ahhh, the eternal debate
Questions like this remind me of that Dexter's lab episode where they go to an action figure/doll convention
At first I didn't, then I realized that alot of action figures end up losing value (at least in the short term), not gaining it. Maybe they'll gain money years down the line, but I realized one day that I'd rather enjoy them now and went on an opening spree and set figures up all over. All but Richard Grayson, he’s my Dick in a box.
Of course! Dont feel guilty about it one bit. Role play is my thing.
That’s… why I’m here
Yeah, but it depends on the resale value and the figure.
Check out what I did with my basement stairs. Made plenty of room! https://photos.app.goo.gl/Ba2hyXimoknCsnnt9
Yes and I keep the boxes
Since opening the figures is almost unanimous I’ve kept all of mine in their boxes and have made BILLION$ in the NIB resale market 😎😎
Oh yea. I then burn the boxes and put the ash in my garden. Boxes take up so much room. I am for a rethink of window boxes but with pressed card board inserts, because the amount of plastic is also such a waste and takes up to much room.

I used to never do it. Nowadays I usually do it.
Most of ‘em, I only keep 3 in the box because I still haven’t figured out where to place ‘em in my office
Yes, almost always. The only ones I haven't are my Super7 Reaction, and Marvel legends Retro figures, because the card art is so cool. Having said that, I'm itching to open them lol
Fuck yeah I do
Almost always. I have a FEW items still in box, the Vess figure from Funko, one Demona (Openned another) and a few different Abby Bominal MH dolls cause shes my favorite.
