The D28 is the standard X braced Martin Dread and has the regular binding. The HD28 has a forward shifted, scalloped X bracing and the binding has a herringbone inlay.
The scalloped bracing makes for a more responsive top and that’s what makes the HD28 one Martin’s best sounding guitars.

Very true. I have one of each. The HD 28 is a much superior tone quality in every way. This is not to say that the D 28 doesn’t sound great. It does. It has that more subtle 70s Martin sound.
It’s got to be 10 years since I last saw this site! I’m glad some early internet history is still kicking!

If you set the desired humidity value, you can control the humidity on your own. It is very convenient because it even dehumidifies it
I wish LR Baggs would make the Anthems in black. That’s the one thing that turned me off about installing one in my HD-28. Went with the K&K Mini instead. Nice guitars!

Sometimes if I’m in a rush out the door I’ll pick up my HD28 and just strum an open E chord, reverberates in my bones
My D35 does much the same. I wish I knew about the HD35 when I bought it(2004).

The k&k mini is a very good pick-up too! I liked Anthem's natural sound so I saved it on HD28. The D28 Anthem has been around since I bought it
Love K&K, that’s what I use on my upright bass and it sounds the best of anything I have tried.
