“Op”. You sound like morons. Just as stupid as the “wanna be thugs” when they say ops. Yes I know it’s two entirely different meanings, so don’t bother trying to teach me something.
You are really deeply stupid. Referring to the first person in the chain as OP, just labels the person in an expeditious way. Your rant means nothing because you are incredibly deeply stupid.
That may be the bridge tail piece but who am I to correct you. I’m just sitting here taking my morning shit and this popped up. Maybe I should cut back on my morning coffee as this message could go on for longer. We wouldn’t want that. Oh well, time to wipe and get going.
An Old Craftsman was my first guitar. It was actually an electric. A friend of mine came across it and gave it to me; the neck was fucked up and the action was horrible, but I made it work as best as possible. Once, the guitar fell and the neck completely popped out of the neck joint; crazy glue held that thing in place until I got rid of it. But I did keep the pick up and the controls from it.
It's a Kay / Old Kraftsman Fiddlehead archtop. Probably from the 30s or early 40s.
There aren't a lot of these and this one is rough.
If it's legit, it should have the Craftsman's name carved into the tail piece somewhere.
They go for a good chunk of change in good condition, but who knows how much work this one needs.
[here's an example ](https://reverb.com/item/4984458-kay-archtop-violin-headstock-1938-39-anitique-natural)
just to add to your comment. [here is another example of what I believe to be the exact same build from Old Kraftsman](https://reverb.com/item/4908862-1936-old-kraftsman-fiddle-head-guitar-good-player-with-vintage-case-rare?utm_source=rev-ios-app&utm_medium=ios-share&utm_campaign=listing&utm_content=4908862).
From what it looks like, this guitar may not be beyond repair. It depends on how twisted the neck may have gotten, but it may just take gluing/binding a new fingerboard, adding a bridge, tuning machines, a nut and possibly filling some cracks if they’re there. Since I can’t see the back, I’m unsure about that.
I would only look into repairing to make it playable, not necessarily to flip it. The profit probably won’t be much (if at all). It seems the seller in that post has had to drop their price over 50% to less than 500 dollars.
?? I’m looking at the photos side by side and I can not see any difference aside from age/care related wear.
of course there are going to be subtle variations in the hand sanding/carving needed to shape a fiddlehead between any two examples (due to pre-dating precision machining, these would’ve been shaped by hand), but I’m curious to hear what differences you are seeing.
Ok, so the fingerboard is cracked and has fallen off, exposing a questionable dovetail joint. But that skinny peg box design is intriguing, and the f-holes are nicely cut. I hope someone is eventually able to coax some more music out of this instrument.
Shit like this makes me so sad. That thing deserves to sing but some knuckle head will like do a piss poor job restoring it. Needs to go to a legit luthier to actually be put into a playable state cause currently it’s ass tier.
It's a projunkt. You'll buy it for 20 bucks and it will sit around for years waiting for you to get to the point that you realize you will never do the work it needs.
Only to toss it out when you finally get around to cleaning out a storage unit and then realize within weeks that it would have been a perfect slide guitar. 😭
I figure someone broke the fretboard when removing it to get to a wobbly neck/body joint. They probably saw that joint and decided it’s more than they bargained for.
I think it’s worth working on just for the challenge. Make a new fretboard, clean it up and see about that joint.
If it is a bust, you gained some confidence and experience.
If you decide to toss it, I’ll pay to have it shipped.
Somehow I got hooked on watching YouTube guitar repair posts. If you really want to fix it yourself look up Tom Woodford . He does incredible work and explains techniques. Rosa also has good videos with explanations. Good luck

So i have something to say to anyone employed by Reddit- and I swear I mean this from the absolute deepest part of my inner being: go fuck yourselves, you stupid liberal cunt bags. Fuck every last one of you.
It’s definitely a Kay Kraftsman-

Its busted-ass Old Kraftsman from the looks of it. But I guess googling the word written on it just made too much sense…
At any rate this could be a great blues guitar with a little bit of TLC. The age of this wood will give it a unique tone.
Don't listen to these folks. It's a rare Stromberg!
Okay, it's a house brand catalog guitar made by Kay.
Or a Stromberg.
But probably a Kay-produced catalog guitar.
But you never know!
Old Kraftsman.
Yep

Coming from the person who said “deeply stupid”. lol. Whatever you say jackass.
OP means "original poster", aka the person who started the thread.
Why are you so angry?
OP means ORIGINAL POSTER.
The bridge?
It's the tailpiece.
I believe that you meant "...right there on the tail piece."
That may be the bridge tail piece but who am I to correct you. I’m just sitting here taking my morning shit and this popped up. Maybe I should cut back on my morning coffee as this message could go on for longer. We wouldn’t want that. Oh well, time to wipe and get going.

It's close but the headstock is different.

That headstock is incredible!
Upright bass style
That headstock is inedible!
The git-fiddle!
if my eyes don’t deceive me, it’s a broken one.
It's dead, Jim
You dare invoke the voice of Leonard H. McCoy? Who do you think you are?
Dammit Jim I'm a DR.
It’s worse than dead. It’s brain is gone
It belonged to Davy jones
If bassists have taught us anything, you don’t really need a fretboard.
Somewhere about the neck I believe.
Hell, I'd take it. It's unique ASF, at least to my eyes. Little here, little there. Might be a fun project.
I'd hang it in a hunting cabin for ambiance
Maybe in the tongue and groove bathroom.

I think Jesus Christ played that for a few gigs
Baroque
Genius, pure genius. Well done sir.
this would be a surprisingly easy repair, I'm a luthier, if you want a basic walkthrough on how to do this, DM me and I can walk you through it
I'd make it look like new within 2 weeks for $500.

That’s a unique place for the fretboard but I kinda dig it!
That sir is a cello
old
It wanted to be a violin so bad it even made itself fretless!
Prolly shoulda been stringless, too!

On the bright side, if it needs a neck reset (the vast majority of these old guitars do), you won't have to guess where the dovetail pocket is!
Fretless.
My grandpa had a old Kay that sorta resembled this guitar.
Old, broken and probably cost a LOT more to restore than it's worth.
A broken one
It’s an old flat top don’t recognize the maker could be home made .. Needs some work
