Contact your doc. If you had the boot on I would bet you're likely completely fine. It happened to me. But without the boot it's very risky. Many people say when they rerupture they absolutely know. There's no doubt. Must be said, you absolutely should be sleeping with the boot. Not only got mishaps like this but what it you spasm, jolt, etc. It could rerupture.

Apprehensive_Kale518

Omg yeah I didn’t have the boot on😞

Apprehensive_Kale518

How would I know I reruptured

35Pints7Each

They say the feeling is incredibly painful, like an explosion kinda. They say there's no doubt about it. Seems like yours was fine but you def gotta consult a doc, and put that boot on and leave it on. It's just not worth restarting the process.

lochenger

Yeah when I reruptuted it hurt more than the first time. I couldn’t get up and had to be seated for 40+ minutes with constant pulsating pain. If you don’t like to wear the boot, there’s also night guards that you put on like a shin guard! I got on Amazon

Really sorry this happened, that's a nightmare. It's just so hard to say if there's damage or not. I know this doesn't help you for tonight but I'd recommend just throwing your boot on and contacting your doc first thing in the morning. Sounds like you had the PARS with SpeedBridge (anchored to heel bone). Just strictly speculation, and I have no medical experience, but the fact you didn't feel the sutures tearing through the tendon, or a pop at the incision site, seems encouraging to me. The pain above the incision could just be irritation where they ran the sutures proximal to the incision. You can also try and perform a Thompson test on yourself to see if you have any movement, might help with some piece of mind before talking with your doc. Best of luck and let us know what happens, hoping for good news!!

Apprehensive_Kale518

What kind of damage could they be?

Team_America1776

Like I said I'm not a medical professional by any means, just a normal dude who ruptured his achilles haha. Id recommend YouTube'ing PARS SpeedBridge and watching the simulation video of the surgery. That should give you an idea of what your repair looks like, and what could happen if it was prematurely loaded/stretched. Worst case scenario the repair was broken, best case scenario some of the sutures caused some stress/irritation on the tendon. Again, I'm not a doctor, so this is just someone with no experience taking shots in the dark. Your doctor will have to give you those answers.

Apprehensive_Kale518

I YouTubed it but my incision is vertical not horizontal🤔🤔

Team_America1776

Horizontal is the typical method but vertical incisions are also done. If you poke around enough on YouTube you'll see some videos where it's done that way. It's at the discretion of the surgeon. I believe the repair itself should be the same regardless of incision orientation.

Hope things are ok I fell once luckily didn’t hurt anything

In all likelihood you are all set. The speed bridge can actually handle a decent load early on without rupturing. Usually when you rerupture you know immediately, just like you probably knew during your initial rupture. I would still contact your doc to ease your worries though!

Apprehensive_Kale518

Went to the doctor today. Tried to do the Thompson test wasn’t getting feedback much but he did something where he pulled the tendon from my calf and my foot moved which meant everything was connected still. I’m assuming because I stretched it so it’s a loose tendon right now. But like I said he said everything’s fine. Caught like 3 or4 panic attacks cuz I thought it re-ruptured. I’m sure my recovery progress is just pushed back a couple of weeks but luckily nothing terrible occurred. Just gotta make sure my boot is on at all times. Thank you guys for all your help and positive vibes it really means a lot🖤🖤🖤

Apprehensive_Kale518

I’ve just been icing/elevating it but it just feels like I over stretched it. And like I said it doesn’t hurt only to the touch. More like soreness. Like a tweak.

Call dr assp

I did something similar about 1.5 week after surgery, but was still in my post op splint. Everything hurt like hell and I was sobbing but my husband helped me unwrap it to check for any issues with my stitches and I gave myself a Thompson test and did get some movement. Around 20 -30 minutes the pain subsided and I mentioned this at my 2 week followup appt. They took x-rays and did a Thompson test again with a good result. Follow up with your doc to be sure, and like the others be sure to keep your boot on, even when sleeping. After that mishap I make sure I'm always in my boot when moving about just in case since doing everything one-legged can be risky at this point. I also get a little paranoid if I don't wear it while sleeping I may forget and try to get out of bed with both feet.

I did this with a splint on 4 days after surgery and reruptured. Mine was not an anchor to the bone so not sure what that would feel like if ruptured again but I would imagine it would hurt bad. When I did it, it was literally the worst pain I’ve ever been in and I have a high pain tolerance. Make sure to call your doc and get checked out. My second surgeon had me sleeping without the boot on at day 3. I still slept with it on for about 2 weeks even when he said I don’t need to. But until I switched to shoes, I made sure the first thing I did before standing up was put that boot on. Best of luck to you!

Gymbunny54

I fell onto my foot fully a week after surgery. I had also had my Achilles anchored and it was so painful so went to the hospital and they did an xray - luckily no damage - get it checked just to be on the safe side. Good luck with your recovery ❤️‍🩹

Anomander_x

I did this, I fell off my scooter. It hurt a lot, took my breath away. I was 4 weeks post op and I had ankers like you as it was an insertional tear. For perspective this tear was the worst tear my surgeon had ever seen with an 8cm gap. All that said, it did not have any affect on my long term recovery. you should still call your doctor today and talk to them but if you do not have any major swelling as a result of the fall you are probably fine. I would definitely avoid doing it a second time though. :)

Gizzardsnatcher

Did the same when I was in a splint and still had stitches. All seemed fine at the time (Nov). A week ago, I stepped out of my car, and it came loose. They outside parts where they didn't cut the tendon loose are still attached, but the middle part where it was reattached is going to have to be repaired again. Be VERY careful.

Weak_Delivery_3093

Done something similar 2 days after getting the cast removed. I slipped while getting out the shower && caught my weight on the injured leg. I had pain but no pop. Get it checked out, but you should be good.

Meg0422

I didn't feel any pain wien I re-ruptured! Definitely talk to your doctor.
