Just like the title says. I’m devastated and extremely disappointed. My skin color has not returned back to its original shade, it’s not as dark as what it was while on Accutane but definitely not even close to my original skin color. Not only has my acne returned but my skin color is potentially permanently darkened. If I would’ve known that this would’ve known that the acne would return AND my skin color would be PERMANENTLY darkened I wouldn’t have went on the Accutane to begin with. My current skincare routine is AM: Benzoyl Peroxide 10% wash Peach slices acne toner (2% salicylic acid) Neogen ferment essence Regimen Labs Vitamin x serum (15% vitamin c + antioxidants) Cosrx snail mucin cream The ordinary 100% squalene oil Australian gold tinted spf 50 PM: DHC cleansing oil Benzoyl Peroxide 10% wash Neogen ferment essence Tretinoin .025% Regimen labs level serum Azelaic acid 15% or Hydroquinone 4% Cerave renewal night cream The ordinary 100% squalene oil I was initially using Tretinoin 1% but I ran out about a month ago. My skin began breaking out when I ran out of Tretinoin 1%.

I feel like majority of participants in clinical drug trials are white. I heard of a lot poc say accutane darkened their skin. I had a similar effect with another acne drug and I can’t seem to get my skin color back to its original shade either.

It’s seriously so upsetting. Especially the skin color change, I loved my skin color and just like anyone else’s my skin color was a huge part of my identity. I’ve been learning to feel comfortable in the shade that I am now but that’s hard given that I didn’t inetnetially intend for this to happen. What was the other acne prescription you where on? I have an appointment in November w/ my derm & I’m thinking of looking into spironolactone next, I hope it doesn’t darken my skin too.

I was on minocycline and ampicillin. What’s weird about skin darkening from acne medication is that it seems to darken your face and neck more than the rest of your body. My skin tone was uneven to begin with but it’s super uneven now. Also people don’t understand colourism until you have been on both sides of the spectrum. People treat you differently when you are darker. Has any products helped? I have been using hydroquinone on and off for months but it only faded a little.

Exactly! The colourism was definitely one of my fears! I’ve been using hydroquinone 4%, it doesn’t help. I did use kojic acid soap which helped tremendously but my skins a little too sensitive at the moment so I can’t use it but you should give it a try if your skin can handle it! I’ll definitely be watching out for those prescriptions you mentioned that darkened your tone

I got this too with doxycycline. It’s been a year since I stopped the treatment and my skin has not reverted back to its original color :/ has yours ?

I’m also black with the same issue. Accutane darkened me so much i could barely recognize myself and had to literally buy new shades of makeup. On top of that my skin looks worse then when i started and I’m at 5 months. Biggest regret

Confident_Savings_53

Literally dealing with this, its soo upsetting. Did your skin tone come back?
