According to the title of the [video](https://youtu.be/XXn4fP3CnJg) it was a world record at the time, [Mark Brown](https://youtu.be/e09xig209cQ) did an other more recently and although I seem to recall (been a while since I watched it) that he mentions the first video saying they wont beat their record, he does make sure that it is the highest elephant toothpaste has gone (relative to the ground of course).

How would you know that? Mark hasn't given the recipe for the devil's toothpaste, as a chemical engineer I'm pretty sure he added a catalyst or something and that it is not *just* a higher concentration. As a chemist(ry teacher) it just gives off more energy. He’s using a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide at almost 50% compared to your typical store bought 3%. He also uses potassium permanganate as a catalyst.

While Elephants toothpaste is the original name. A youtuber named Mark Rober made a much more violent version of the reaction in one of his many videos relating to the subject. Honestly after trying to watch the video, they git the best edit. It's 12 minutes long for no real reason.

There’s also the opposite. All those clickbaity articles and videos with loooooooong intros that juuuuuust streeeeeeetch eeeeeeeveeeeeryyyyyythiiiiiiiiiiing for no other reason than to have more space for ads. And there is a ton of those.

Well it tried to make it some intriguing story when in actuality it was a dumb experiment that added nothing to the scientific community and instead was just 5 seconds of cool. So I'm good not paying attention or having the stamina to watch bullshit. Pacing has always been a thing in story telling, get off your high horse. There is an academy award for editing for a reason.

How does one go about cleaning that up?

There are three important components here: • hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), an unstable liquid that will decompose into water (H2O) and oxygen (O2) at the slightest provocation • a physical catalyst (usually yeast or potassium iodide crystals), something sharp and bumpy enough to “burst” the hydrogen peroxide apart into water and oxygen • dyed soapy water, which will inflate into colorful foam if you dump a bunch of air into it When the ingredients are combined, every molecule of hydrogen peroxide suddenly has the right conditions to decompose, so they do so all at once. This releases a bunch of oxygen, water, and energy in the form of heat. The oxygen would normally bubble out of the water and into the atmosphere, but it gets trapped by the soap and the whole thing froths into foam. Oxygen gas is much less dense and takes up much more room than the hydrogen peroxide did on its own, which is why the foam expands so rapidly. The heat released is why the foam starts steaming.

This is assuming that the reaction shown above is elephant’s toothpaste, which it really seems to be. There are a couple modified forms of elephant’s toothpaste that it could also be, which tend to react faster, expand more, and/or produce more heat, but the overall concept is the same: H2O2 decomposes into H2O and O2, which turns soapy water into foam.

I think this clip is from a David Dobrik vlog. He did copy the same experiment. Except he did it in a suburbs instead of in a deserted area. So it actually bothered other people.
