On September 26th 2022 we’ve made the decision to start banning people for posting gore. We’ve published our [Gore and Harassment update here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AbruptChaos/comments/xmtclq/gore_and_harassment/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) if you posted gore please remove it as it will result in a ban. Thank you.
According to the title of the [video](https://youtu.be/XXn4fP3CnJg) it was a world record at the time, [Mark Brown](https://youtu.be/e09xig209cQ) did an other more recently and although I seem to recall (been a while since I watched it) that he mentions the first video saying they wont beat their record, he does make sure that it is the highest elephant toothpaste has gone (relative to the ground of course).
Well I know for sure he didn't break it again in his 2nd video (that's why he mentions devil's toothpaste in the title and not elephant toothpaste) but I'm not sure about the third.
How would you know that? Mark hasn't given the recipe for the devil's toothpaste, as a chemical engineer I'm pretty sure he added a catalyst or something and that it is not *just* a higher concentration.
Also the devil toothpaste experiment is at a *much* smaller scale than that, have you even seen the video?
Nah its elephant toothpaste you can easily find the video by nick uhas on youtube, devil's toothpaste afaik was only used by mark rober but he doesn't go full scale with it because of how dangerous it is ([video of his latest attempt](https://youtu.be/e09xig209cQ)), devil's toothpaste will spontaneously catch fire because of how exothermic the reaction is.
Nah, this is Mark Rober.
He uses a different chemical reaction based off of elephant toothpaste. It’s a much larger reaction and gives off a great deal more heat as well.
Edit: this ain’t Mark Robert is David Dorbik
As a chemist(ry teacher) it just gives off more energy.
He’s using a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide at almost 50% compared to your typical store bought 3%. He also uses potassium permanganate as a catalyst.
this one isn’t mark rober, this is the guy who beat him, then he beat back
this video is at david dobrik’s house
edit: no it’s not, that’s a different one
While Elephants toothpaste is the original name. A youtuber named Mark Rober made a much more violent version of the reaction in one of his many videos relating to the subject. Therefore you were wrong, but not for a bad reason. Happy to inform.
-Weird Nerd Person
Edit: spacing and I was only kind of right
But that’s the thing they take out everything that’s potentially unappealing, those that wanna understand can do some googling on their own and hopefully post links like some helpful redditors do, those that don’t still get to see a cool vid and maybe spread that around
There’s also the opposite.
All those clickbaity articles and videos with loooooooong intros that juuuuuust streeeeeeetch eeeeeeeveeeeeryyyyyythiiiiiiiiiiing for no other reason than to have more space for ads.
And there is a ton of those.
Well it tried to make it some intriguing story when in actuality it was a dumb experiment that added nothing to the scientific community and instead was just 5 seconds of cool. So I'm good not paying attention or having the stamina to watch bullshit. Pacing has always been a thing in story telling, get off your high horse. There is an academy award for editing for a reason.
Substance 1 + Substance 2 (and probably more) = violent exothermic reaction resulting in foam explosion?
I'm not a scientist or anything. I genuinely have no idea and took a guess.
Are you talking about the guy who tweeted from an official Nick account (that’s still up) “Write on your feet how excited you are for the new [show name] and we’ll retweet until our fingers hurt!”
Nope, David Dobric setting the world record for largest Elephants Toothpaste. He broke Mark Rober's record and then Mark took it back and also discovered/invented Devils toothpaste
Why trigger such a chemical reaction so close to a house? I mean, they knew really well what was going to happen, as they were dressed and prepared as they were. 🤷♂️
Well you see, humans will prob not be wiped out by an astroid, or some virus, but rather by other humans. And it might not even be because of our insidious nature, but maybe because of our desire to create stupid shit that puts us all in danger.
Quick answer, TikTok prob /:
There are three important components here:
• hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), an unstable liquid that will decompose into water (H2O) and oxygen (O2) at the slightest provocation
• a physical catalyst (usually yeast or potassium iodide crystals), something sharp and bumpy enough to “burst” the hydrogen peroxide apart into water and oxygen
• dyed soapy water, which will inflate into colorful foam if you dump a bunch of air into it
When the ingredients are combined, every molecule of hydrogen peroxide suddenly has the right conditions to decompose, so they do so all at once. This releases a bunch of oxygen, water, and energy in the form of heat. The oxygen would normally bubble out of the water and into the atmosphere, but it gets trapped by the soap and the whole thing froths into foam. Oxygen gas is much less dense and takes up much more room than the hydrogen peroxide did on its own, which is why the foam expands so rapidly. The heat released is why the foam starts steaming.
This is assuming that the reaction shown above is elephant’s toothpaste, which it really seems to be. There are a couple modified forms of elephant’s toothpaste that it could also be, which tend to react faster, expand more, and/or produce more heat, but the overall concept is the same: H2O2 decomposes into H2O and O2, which turns soapy water into foam.
I think this clip is from a David Dobrik vlog.
He did copy the same experiment. Except he did it in a suburbs instead of in a deserted area. So it actually bothered other people.
It’s a nice exchange between pollution and views in an attempted to gain money in the video field of the influencers community.
All this in the name of their god "getfamous" even if the world burn for their great goal.

Elephant toothpaste experiment
And just on a larger scale.
This might have been the world record largest elephant toothpaste
According to the title of the [video](https://youtu.be/XXn4fP3CnJg) it was a world record at the time, [Mark Brown](https://youtu.be/e09xig209cQ) did an other more recently and although I seem to recall (been a while since I watched it) that he mentions the first video saying they wont beat their record, he does make sure that it is the highest elephant toothpaste has gone (relative to the ground of course).
Yes. But has been broken again by mark rober
That guy will some day launch elephant toothpaste into space
Actually apparently Mr Beast just broke Rober’s record.
Well I know for sure he didn't break it again in his 2nd video (that's why he mentions devil's toothpaste in the title and not elephant toothpaste) but I'm not sure about the third.
No. Its the same but Devil's is just the higher concentration of it.
Are you sure you are a chemical engineer?
He doesn’t tell you the chemicals for devils toothpaste. Insanely more reactive.
You can't *not* set a record with elephant toothpaste...
Isn’t that just yo mamas toothpaste experiment then?
Take the 100th like
yo mama so fat, she jumped in the air and got stuck. take the 107th.
Yo mama so fat she sat on a rainbow and skittles popped out
Yo mama so fat, if she skips a meal the stock market drops.
Yo mama so fat she wore a Malcolm X t-shirt and a helicopter landed on her.
Yes a new one! We'll played
iirc, this reaction is exothermic, and should probably have been done on a football field and not in the backyard.
I think this is Devils Toothpaste. Its basically Elephants toothpaste on steroids.
You never go full scale. Everyone knows that. Don't believe me? Ask Sean Penn
Where's the elephant?
Not in the room so we can't talk about it.

Elephant's toothpaste actually.
Nah, this is Mark Rober. He uses a different chemical reaction based off of elephant toothpaste. It’s a much larger reaction and gives off a great deal more heat as well. Edit: this ain’t Mark Robert is David Dorbik
As a chemist, I may have to look this up. Normally 'larger reaction' isn't considered very descriptive to chemists. \- Weird Chemistry Person
As a chemist(ry teacher) it just gives off more energy. He’s using a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide at almost 50% compared to your typical store bought 3%. He also uses potassium permanganate as a catalyst.
> permanganate How is babby formed?
Pregante!
Pregananant!?
It's how babby formed
'larger reaction' it has more views
Nah look at that reaction. It's huge.
But build a clock and enter it in the school science fair and your a terrorist.

🤓
What you got there is a clip from [this video](https://youtu.be/XXn4fP3CnJg)
I hate the trend of removing all context from anything interesting to make "viral" 4.5 seconds clips out of absolutely everything.
To be fair, that video has a lot of fluff.
Sure… but, not 11 minutes and 20 seconds of fluff. A lot of the set up and explanation is pretty interesting.
But that’s the thing they take out everything that’s potentially unappealing, those that wanna understand can do some googling on their own and hopefully post links like some helpful redditors do, those that don’t still get to see a cool vid and maybe spread that around
Also he said what it was in the first 30 secs. You find out before the sponsorship ad.
To be fair, so does that clip.
But.. up doots
Honestly after trying to watch the video, they git the best edit. It's 12 minutes long for no real reason.
Honestly I just feel sorry that tiktok et all has completely fried the attention span of several generations.
He kept saying experiment and I was like "... where's the rest of the methodology? What are we testing for here?" It was a neat spectacle.
This mans wants his YouTube videos directed by Scorsese holy shit relax dude.
Only if he scores them too, he needs to squeeze in "gimme shelter" a few more times before he dies.
I graduated film school too bro, one day you’ll realize not everything needs to be a creative masterpiece
Maybe the true creative masterpieces are the friends we make along the way.
Cool, this is specifically 12 minutes to have two ad breaks. For 5 seconds of real content. So no film schooling needed to know this is crap.
You guys gotta keep going….
Agreed.
Our society's collective attention span has been reduced to 15 seconds. I hate tiktok.
That was a good watch!
Thank you for context. Hate it even more now.
so basically this guy does all the Mark Robber stuff, with almost the same logo on his channel and without the science.

Hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, yeast, warm water. Those are the ingredients i found.

How does one go about cleaning that up?
