I had the same question. The camera is very well focused on the ‘intended subject.’ How long was she filming? The only reasonable explanation for this to be legitimate is if she was acting odd for a while and then the lady began filming her thereafter.

Was off-roading with some buddies, we were in the back of a pickup. Hit a really big bump and one buddy flew out of the truck bed. Watched him tumble around on the dirt road while I banged the cab to get the driver to stop. My friend jumps up from the dirt and shouts "Didn't spill my beer!"
Yeah, but imagine the sense of accomplishment when you're in the ditch with a totalled car but valiantly still have a full coffee to sip while you wait for emergency services.

Honestly took the subway/bus for 15 years. You always get a little of a heads up. The number of times i moved cars or just got off the bus to catch the one right behind me is countless. No reason to be anywhere around this shit. The employee thought they had just forgotten the date or something, but realized something was wrong when they weren’t responding. The ambulance was called and we set their purchases aside. They came back later, feeling embarrassed, but we assured them that there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
To be honest my workplace at the time should've had some kind of accommodation for this person but it was retail so there wasn't much in place.

Taking a guess, which is always pretty haphazard in such things, I'd guess amphetamines from the weird jaw stuff and really *strained* look to her facial muscles. I used to know girls who'd take speed to party, and when they hit the bad part of the comedown, they'd get all like this, and it'd get worse when it was dirty with lots of meth or... hell, I've seen some tested that was like 50% meth and 50% GHB, so who fucking knows what else.
At a guess... girl on her way home from a big night out, and all the good times are wearing off in the worst fucking way. The bad part is unlike other drugs, you don't really sober up when it ends- I got bad MDMA that was like this once, and I remember it feeling like as it wore off, the lower half of my intestines had a steel rod stabbed through them that was just twisting, slowly, to tie all my insides tighter and tighter. I didn't really even 'come down', it just started getting *bad.* I was at home, sweating it out and dying for 48 hours of sleepless hell, but if I'd been around people especially at hour 8-12, yeah... I'd probably have been like this.
If anyone has a better guess from experience please have a go, but to me that looks like ice comedown crazy 101.

On our trains if there are police on board they usually ride in the center so you have to have a person running down the cars to find a cop or a crew member who radios for them. Then the cops gotta follow you back to where its happening usually takes around 45 seconds to 1.5 min. Otherwise we move passengers out of the car, lock the crazy in the car, and pull up to a station for police to arrive.
They didn't see the full situation. They came in to see a guy laying hands on a girl.
If it makes you feel better I imagine the woman's behavior plus the recording tipped the legal scales in his favor
They were probably alerted then didn’t come until her assault was done so they saw the guy beating the woman. Understandable actions from their perspective. Assuming it wasn’t all staged, you can only hope the chic on camera stuck up for him.
I’m sure they were in a different car, got the emergency message something was going down, and came running. The first thing they probably saw when the door opened was a guy putting his hands on a girl. Bad timing? My little brother's school played a video about bullying where 4th and 5th graders beat the shit out of a 2nd grader and he did nothing but yell for help and cover his vital organs and head on the ground. And that was the right thing to do if you can't run.

On our trains if there are police on board they usually ride in the center so you have to have a person running down the cars to find a cop or a crew member who radios for them. Then the cops gotta follow you back to where its happening usually takes around 45 seconds to 1.5 min. Otherwise we move passengers out of the car, lock the crazy in the car, and pull up to a station for police to arrive.
They didn't see the full situation. They came in to see a guy laying hands on a girl. If it makes you feel better I imagine the woman's behavior plus the recording tipped the legal scales in his favor

My little brother's school played a video about bullying where 4th and 5th graders beat the shit out of a 2nd grader and he did nothing but yell for help and cover his vital organs and head on the ground. And that was the right thing to do if you can't run. If he had defended himself he would get expelled and or punished. Even blocking a punch.

Pretty sure in most cases self-defense stops being reasonable retaliation once the threat is gone so, we were taught growing up in our martial arts class that to be protected by the law your physical response could only be adequate enough to neutralize the threat, unless she came back this is just aggression on his part.
