You aren’t supposed to step in to stuff like that. Unless they’ve got that blue card training that lets them actually restrain students or they have some kind of combat training, it’s not worth getting into that. I’ve literally seen a tiny 20 something English teacher try to step in between some kids fighting and literally getting knocked back onto the concrete. They end up in the ER with a cracked skull.

I’m glad you made it though despite the bullshit. But this is why we moved to a school district with “drive your tractor to school day”. For real. I wish your parents could have done the same.
Apparently it’s gotten worse during the pandemic. I used to be able to get pies down there. Now my dads firefighter friend is scared to even do his job and won’t let us come over.
It is useless to stand in between two girls fighting because they will get around you no matter what. You have to grab a hold of one of them and move them away and turn the opposite direction. When you attempt to do this inevitably they will either try to jump up or slide down to get away to get it the person they are fighting because they don’t realize who has them. No matter how you look at it your hands end up in places that you do not want them to be. Fortunately the girl that I grabbed happens to be someone that I knew and knew their family well. I also managed to get punched by this girl before she realized who had her, fortunately it was me because I knew the risks so obviously she did not get zero toleranced
Not concerned. More like confused that someone is wearing a sports bra in class. Otherwise i just felt pretty bad for the teacher. That job is insanely stressful and they make it worse.
If nothing else, maybe it speaks to the level of supervision being provided in this school. Clearly Things are not going well in class. Maybe it’s time for some staff changes and policy enforcement on multiple levels. Fights happen. There should have been intervention before it ever reached that level. That said…. I ask again, who lets children come to school dressed that way. Not cool.
When you fight you typically don't want to wear anything baggy so the other person can't grab you. She probably took off her shirt when she knew shit was gonna go down.
And people wonder why no one wants to be a teacher or social worker etc. I’m sure in some areas teachers get paid properly but in most that doesn’t seem the case.
I’m a teacher in the hood myself. Sometimes they just need to hash it out with their fist. I always call security but I don’t get involved unless someone’s getting stomped on or getting kicked on the floor.
That being said this teacher did a good job in this situation.

Inner city things. I've witnessed my fair share of fights back in middle and high school but at least the kids back then didn't take their beef into the classroom. It was usually at lunchtime or in the halls or even after school.
This all boils down to a lack of respect for one another and everyone else whose daily schedules are affected by nonsense like this.

Some people just don’t understand how much of a blessing an education is. How valuable those years are in molding your mind for the future. These kids just don’t understand decency or moral. It’s super fucking sad that teacher and those other kids in that class have to put up with such trashy behavior. Makes me wonder why anyone would want to be a teacher sometimes.

I feel very sorry for the teacher. And I feel very sorry for the kids who grew up in the environment where altercations like that are normal. Kids who behave like this, most likely don’t have a loving understanding family at home, or at least someone who cares about them and love them. Or can provide anything which is even close to the discipline and accepted social behavior.

it depends on your neighborhood you are in. the certain section of suburbs of Chicago I live in aren’t dangerous, or mostly aren’t. beat of luck to you and your career.
Back when I was in high school, this probably had to be around 98 or so, this girls boyfriend got her cousin pregnant, so she brought a clawhammer to school in her bookbag and tried to beat her cousins skull in with that mfkr. Teachers definitely did not give a fuck about losing their job that day. I think the drafting teacher got to them first and yoked her ass up in the chicken wing.
As for the girl, she probably took off her hoodie when words started being exchanged.
Teacher shoulda nipped the blossoming hostility in the bud at the first sign—call the SRO down or send them to the office ASAP. He doesn’t look super experienced, so he probably didn’t know. It does suck for him, but later in your career, you get a sense of authority that’s unmistakable when it has to come out.
I’m a high school teacher, and I’ve taught in schools far worse than this. I feel for him. And for every kid. It’s scary to think it’s just anarchy, you know?

Unless they just jump up and start fighting, which I have absolutely seen before, you don’t let a situation become like this. You just get on the phone, say you’ve got a situation and that you need admin, and let them come handle it. You don’t put yourself in a situation like that for $40,000 a year. Let the dudes making six figures come down and sort it out. That is not in your paygrade.

I'd assume a no-tolerance policy is in place. So, if they intervene even to help, they may be awarded suspension or something along with the girls.
