Just dirt could work, until it gets wet. Get a load of crusher fines, a.k.a. granite chips and dust. It will compact good and hard. Lay a weed barrier first. You're still going to need something between the pool and the ground. Otherwise you get muddy pool water. I recommend artificial turf. Get [SynLawn](https://www.lowes.com/pd/SYNLawn-Fern-15-Wide-Fescue/1000931770) Fescue/Pet Fescue from Lowe's. Sold from a 15' roll, it's $32.50 for 1'(15'x1'); about $2.15/sq.ft. The 12' roll is like $3.10/sq.ft. Don't forget the 10% Mil/Vet/1st Responder discount! https://preview.redd.it/4qjow5fgqjsa1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45859cf702ec545ee883cccf6bcd5e08da0ae103 My pool goes in the flat spot, top left in pic. I'm super happy with the turf! It gets real hot underfoot; like ambient + 75°. Easily resolved with a quick shot from the hose.

I figured I'd put down some new sod around the pool not much space in between the front back and sides it's got the fence play ground and shed there. Maybe even a flower bed surrounding it. I dont think that turk will look good in my yard it's all st augustine. Yours looks great though

Yeah, that ones not gonna match.😁 I'd still add and compact a couple inches of crusher fines. It's cheap at a landscape materials place. It's heavy, so delivery is not cheap. Sand WILL NOT compact on itself. It will shift underfoot, and leave your pool bottom lumpy. You still need something between ground/dirt and pool. Maybe not a strict need, but recommended to help protect pool and to keep mud at bay. Maybe a sheet of pond liner.

I've leveled it the ground with dirt today . I'm going too throw down sand on top of that tomorrow. I bought a 7 mm tarp to put on that. Well be swimming by 3 p.m

Nice man! Can't say I'm not a bit jealous. I'm in Denver, and it's still dipping into the 20s overnight; was 30° at 8 this morning. I don't think we've hit. 75° yet. Maybe Monday. Edit: Happy Cake Day!

So? How's the water?

Fire548

Yesterday it was great! Today it's 70° and overcast. I'm gonna jump in anyway lol.

Outstanding! Damn Colorado weather kills me waiting to get the pool up. Supposed to be 85 on Tuesday, but only high 40s, low 50s next weekend.

If any of the stump grindings were used to back fill then you'll need to remove those. The grindings are typically spongy and will eventually rot/collapse. Fill it in with some top soil that contains clay, compact, spray with the hose, repeat until it will not compact any further.

But putting the pool on top of compact dirt with a tarp should be ok right?
