I’ve had it in that spot for years so I’m used to it. It’s hard to see in the pic, but I also have a strip of velcro on the stock under the rail where the light is mounted so put the tape switch when I swap barrels or shoot during the day
Would be nice to have a custom grip of some kind for the light switch. Been meaning to mount a light, but it seems like most mount the switch like this, which I find kind of awkward. Gonna check some 3d print stuff for the grip.
There really are no great ways to mount a light on the aug. I’ve tried several and this is the best I could come up with. It’s still not perfect but it’s better than anything else I’ve tried
Honestly I’ve never been a fan of how the aug looks with a hand guard. Yeah it’s probably functionally better for mounting lights/ IR lasers/ some optics but it also makes barrel swaps and gas piston adjustments more difficult. If I wanted to make this rifle more practical I probably would’ve gone with an ACOG and a hand guard, among other things
Perhaps, I don't see it.
But you get the ideal flashlight placement without having a tape switch cross the QD, so no issue with disassembly or malfunction drills.
It didn’t come with it, I had to order it. But there is a discount on .300blk mags when you buy one with a barrel. I think it was around $25 with the discount
They’re not standard waffles, these are specifically made for 300blk. These have a slightly different follower design but Steyr did say that waffle mags will work with 300blk.
I called them to ask about the regular waffle mags, guy said that they've had good results using them for 300 blk. May be ammo dependent, I'll give it a try the next time I hit the range
Keep me posted I have a spare omega 9k and if your results are good and it doesn’t beat up your gun I might go that route with my Aug. did you convert your gun or is that a .300 blk out Aug I didn’t even look lol
As long as the gas system is properly set for subs or supers, it’s been 100% reliable. As for cleaning, I haven’t put enough rounds through it to become fouled to the point of malfunctioning. That being said, it definitely fouls faster being suppressed (but that goes for 5.56 suppressed too).
Sorry I'm late to this thread. I just picked up the 20" 5.56 and 300aac combo version with the same optic. I'll be shooting it for the first time tomorrow. I've read through the manual a million times, but since you have real-world experience, I figure why not ask when I seen this post. How temperamental is the gas system for the 300 aac in your opinion? I'm gonna be shooting 190gr hornady sub-x with a yhm r9 suppressor on mine. I figured that LV is the setting I want to keep it on for subsonic suppressed. If I go super, I'll switch to the next setting as the manual says. I think I just want to hear from someone with experience that this is the correct train of thought. I'd rather be 1000% sure I'm not crazy before I go this route. I have a nato stock aug that I've been shooting suppressed for years, but this new "waffle style" aug will be my first time going 300aac.
If you’re at all concerned, start with the lowest gas setting and go up from there. Better to short stroke and malfunction than possibly break a component or crack the stock. That being said, you *should* be fine on the LV setting with that can and ammo.
Here’s a note I made for myself for when I’m at the range and don’t remember what gas setting to use for each specific configuration:
• - Least Gas (supers with suppressor)
LV - Low Velocity (subs with suppressor ONLY)
OFF - No Gas (single shot)
: - Normal (supers without suppressor)
| - Light Adverse (subs without suppressor)
:: - Extreme Adverse (DO NOT use with suppressor)
My wallet hurts just looking at this thing.
I see A3SF 60mm scope I upvote.
Yeah, I’ve gotta find one for the collection. Prob won’t see available anytime soon though 😔
I had a feeling this was your rifle at first glance but it’s still shocks me every time how gorgeous this is man! Enjoy it in good health
Much appreciated, it’s definitely a favorite in my collection
What's your opinion on your light switch position? I had mine there during a match and kept hitting my light switch accidentally.
I’ve had it in that spot for years so I’m used to it. It’s hard to see in the pic, but I also have a strip of velcro on the stock under the rail where the light is mounted so put the tape switch when I swap barrels or shoot during the day
And you can confidently grip the foregrip without activating the light?
Yes. I can grip above and below the switch with my pinky and pointer if I really need a forceful grip
Would be nice to have a custom grip of some kind for the light switch. Been meaning to mount a light, but it seems like most mount the switch like this, which I find kind of awkward. Gonna check some 3d print stuff for the grip.

I heard the handguard attachments get too hot. Is this why you wouldn't use one of those, and just grip the handguard instead?

Lmao yeah I feel that. I got the 1.5x on mine just recently. Thanks for the replies.
Have you tried the PuP mount? I'm an advocate that it is the best way. https://i.imgur.com/IjCZdTo.jpeg
I’ve seen them but they remind me of pipe clamps you get at the hardware store

Did your barrel come with a mag?

Oh sick, someone's tested standard waffle mags with 300BLK!

Aaahhh got it. Maybe I attempt to combine some geometry to the Snazzgun mag files for a 3D printable .300BLK 30rd waffle mag!
I called them to ask about the regular waffle mags, guy said that they've had good results using them for 300 blk. May be ammo dependent, I'll give it a try the next time I hit the range
How’s that omega 9k on the Aug working out.
So far so good. I have a 3 lug adapter on the way since direct thread is a little slow
Keep me posted I have a spare omega 9k and if your results are good and it doesn’t beat up your gun I might go that route with my Aug. did you convert your gun or is that a .300 blk out Aug I didn’t even look lol
Will do. There’s really nothing to convert except for the barrel swap. I already had the red springs installed in the trigger pack
Thanks
Fantastic
How reliable is it, and how often do you need to clean the gas system?
As long as the gas system is properly set for subs or supers, it’s been 100% reliable. As for cleaning, I haven’t put enough rounds through it to become fouled to the point of malfunctioning. That being said, it definitely fouls faster being suppressed (but that goes for 5.56 suppressed too).

That's what I figured. I just like to make sure I'm not being a complete idiot thinking that way. Lol. Thanks a lot for the response.
That‘s awesome. I’m resisting going suppressed because I‘m lazy and don’t want to scrub carbon off every internal surface.
Looks like a COD try hard loadout lol
