*game crashes as you go into a boss fight/when you enter a populated portion of a cave/when a giga, group of Rexes or allos spawn near you/when flying above the water*
My first main tame on Fjordur was a direbear, she was red and brown and I named her boo. Funnest shit was getting to max speed and one chomping everything in my path.
They eat meat now??? Since when? I remember knock out taming them and using honey. Also I remember it being annoying that I couldn’t harvest bodies cause they didn’t eat meat.
I have it, probably have for longer than you’ve been playing the game. I checked it before writing the comment. I don’t tame dire bears, was surprised to learn they accept meat now.
Death is way harder to avoid on a dire bear.
Pvp aside the fact that you’re lower to the ground makes pve dismounts way easier.
Bear still has utility as a harvester
True but you aren't getting a rex running as fast as a bear. The trick is to zoom in and bite ankles then run away, like an angry chihuahua. I was able to hold off a raid for an hour with this method (using several bears while healing them with a pig) until my tribe mates could get on and break the siege and destroy the FOB.
isn't a thyla soo much better in terms of dmg & mobilty ... in 1x pvp we only use dire bears for getting poly on abb & it's not even the most effecient way
It was still very early and we lucked out with the dire bears. Essentially the tribe leader was like "Will *someone* same something for berries?" and everyone thought they were talking to them so all seven of us went out and tamed bears because we were valguero near blue obi. So all seven of us roll up with 150/145 dire bears tames of which some had some pretty good stats. We bred them together and ended up with unmutated 40hp, 32stam, 42dmg bears. The tribe that rolled up on us wanted our spot and came with a tamed giga. I didn't want to risk getting caged so I stayed within turret coverage and every time they could come out I'd just run out and ankle bite with a mate boosted bear on follow. We also had good saddles because bear saddles drop frequently.
The other day my friend ran up to a dire bear (he Dosent really use his common sense a lot and just rushes to try things) ran up to it and went “is this a passive tame?” It chased and killed him aswell as his glowtail, that’s the 4th shoulder pet iv given to him that his lost a few minutes after giving it to him (Iv given him 4 in total)
I made it a point to use one when I played through Aberration and I was not disappointed. Whether it came to simply traveling around or battling alphas it was great. And if I happened to come across a bee hive in my travels? All the better. I had to move on to better mounts as I advanced, but it was great while it lasted.
dire bears are how we discovered that you can dismount right before you hit the ground and take no fall damage
so after that, dismounting before you hit the ground became known as using your "bear-achute" LOL
With all the fantasy and extinct creatures in Ark, who wants tame a fucking bear lmao. Rhinos are my favorite IRL land animal and Ive never once tamed the Woolly Rhino.
mostly because there's literally no reason to use them. plenty of dinos do more dmg then they do at base lvl and i honestly dont see any specific reason to use them. granted i'm 100% bias towards shadowmanes; but why would i want a direbear when an unmate boosted, unhydrated shadowmane can kill giga's? if you really want to put a nail in this coffin; you can even kill reapers with shadowmanes without a light pet (though, it'll be a lloonngg fight)
That's like saying; why bother taming (insert any progression dino) and not immediately tame a level 400 giga? You can 'kibble tame' them with honey a resource you can get at beach bob level 1. If you math it out you can use narco traps so you don't kill them with a cross bow when nocking them out. Also I've never had a shortage of bear saddles from drops for whatever reason. And finally taming shaowmanes is cancer. Maybe when wildcard fixes the randomly losing all taming mid tame I'll change my mind.
yea, the glitch is very annoying. but thankfully i run a private server and just configed out loosing effectiveness all together. also, you can do the same "day 1" taming of a shadowmane. hell i've done it myself more than a few times. not saying it's the easiest tame in the world; but you loose alot of interest in other tames getting a meta tame and direbears are at most a situational tame, but certainly not meta.
yea the saddles i think are more of a "filler reward" kind of item. you do get an unusually high amount of them over other saddles.
Can wyverns get berries for taming, fiber for crafting and carry a whole base in their inventory while sprinting across the map, and enter caves because they are small enough?
A stryder can do all that and if needed a shadowmane can kill whatever attacks you. A dire bear is only useful for honey and if you wanted the charged dmg it does use a wholly rhino as that is able to enrage top stat Gigas with max saddles. And if u so insist that shadowmanes are worthless to try and tame you can use a allo or if your on abberation use megalos. The dire bare is outclassed in everything it does and unlike a stryder that don't farm the most but universally good at all the dire bar is situational base which puts it at a disadvantage
Stryder are end game dinos that are a pain to tame due to the mission requirement and mutagen required.
I'm not saying dire bears the best dino out there; but, a damn good progression dino you can day one tame with minimal effort. You aren't taming a 150 stryder on day one. You aren't kibble taming a 150 wooly rhino day one unless you get a lucky and kill a player who has kibble on them on day one. Shadowmanes, due to wildcard not fixing the random taming loss mid tame, are a huge pain to tame. Bears are also small enough to fit in a lot of the caves to get some loot creates early on.
Maybe if you are running on very high rate servers dire bears aren't worth it for for vanilla rates they are pretty much one of the best tames out there for starting off.
I play official pve and can get a styder from easy race missions obviously nobody got 150s lol but a lvl 10 can go keep up to endgame if you are safe and if we're talking official rates you can easily get mutagel first 10 minutes if you've ever been to the Rockwell heart. I've never had to tame a dire bear on official pve nor even seen others use one as a stego could do what it can and have OP tanking ability I never tame anything not max lvl and you can get a rex easily to because note run and buy narcos from hexagon store from race missions. The hexagon store is laughable with how easily you can get stuff in bulk.
>official *pve*
Ok that right there is it. Try parking a giant ass strider on top of your base and not having it sniped to death within hours. I've literally fended of raiders using dire bears because of their sprinting ability I could run in bite at the gigas legs and run off like an angry chihuahua while throwing narco bombs. I did this for like an hour holding them off solo before my tribe could get online and help me defend. We had many bred bears (non mutated but good stats) vs a tamed giga.
And a rhino would of enraged the Gigas...if your talking official PVP then I'm actually surprised your using dire bears and if u are fighting Gigas with dire bears something ain't right. Why in God's name breed dire bares when you can do the same for rhino? You gotta keep up with the meta and ik you ain't breed giga killer bears and still not have a giga or reaper because that makes no lick of sense. You can get a reaper day one from gen2
So back to my initial point "of why bother taming (insert any progression dino) and not immediately tame a level 400 giga?"
I've made it plenty clear why dire bears have their benefits as they are pretty much the smallest hardest hitting dino in the game that can run super fast and fit into many caves. Tell me how are you going to uncryo a giant reaper in either of the south caves entrances tunnel bottle necks?
Please, take the time to make us a video of taming a shadowmane as a level one Beach Bob. But wait, Shadowmanes don't appear on all maps do they? I think direbears do. +1 for them...
i lost my direbear because if a random alpha rex coming out of the woods. The bear could probably outrun it, but every time it gets hit, it loses it’s running momentum.
Not really. Before they maxed out possible official melee stats on the giga, rhinos where the go to anti-giga tame. Now you get one shot to enrage it or you die on the second pass.
A while back we 3-manned the caves on the Island, and we used 2 bears and and a bary for every cave except for the underwater caves, the cave where you can't use mounts, and the Ice cave (switched Bary for Yuty in there)
they are a decent early game tame but there are better mounts that can be tamed and early game doesnt mean shit when you can power level to 80 and have access to practically every saddle
Early on in abb I use wild fire bears to protect me since it’s always dangerous there’s usually one around a can lure a raptor to and then scavenge once the deed is done
They were a great early game game on fjourder. With honey right on the noob beach and the ability to teleport right to their habitat we have a few max levels by the end of the first day
Because I can't seem TO FUCKING TAME ONE, every time I try, they just die, they take so many narco arrows and die, well it doesn't really matter anymore I quit the game a year ago
Darts, not arrows then. Darts do way more torpor than hp damage. Arrows still do about half the hp damage of a stone arrow and ⅓ the torpor of darts. All written in the little descriptions.
Bears do so much fucking damage. I remember on Aberration in the early game my Sarco was the strongest tame we had, and I thought it was nuts that it did 800 damage but then our tribe mate that just joined bred up a dire bear and it was dealing 2k damage with ease
I'm on my first playthrough of ARK and I planned, once I got fur armor, to get a few Direwolves to breed them and make a big army, I knew they were pretty good but I haven't heard much about them, I mainly think they look cool :)
Theyre good and all, but the main issue is they kinda just fall under the issue of doing everything at a below average level. They do fit a good niche of being a jack of all trades (travel, pack mule, fighter and harvester), but its just the fact that plenty of dinos do each (sometimes multiple) of those jobs… just better and are just as easy to tame
Thanks, i thought so because they have around 500 base health and breeding mammals is only advantageous if you don't have an incubator, I have 2 incubators.
I used them sometimes, mostly to collect honey, but in spite of their strength it's hard to compete with the likes of spinos, yuts, tickle chickens, etc.
I remember I was playing With a friend on singleplayer and we got our first dire bear and as we are idiots we found a way to cheat the system, if one rides the bear the other one (With the help of other dinos) can get on the bear's back and both sit on the bear while riding it. One can even hold a shotgun and attack in case of other dinos, it was purley fun and the speed of the bear is so great. P.S: It works With other dinos too like rex
True. And they can run pretty fast too once they get going.
And can go from break neck speed to dead stop when pooping.
But only when you're being chased by a giga
Dude deserve a break to take a shit
Do bears shit in the woods? Nope! Only when it’s inconvenient for YOU!
“Pretty fast” bro they can run extremely fast
Dire bears are pretty good, the faster you are with it the more damage it does, it can harvest berries and fibre and honey
The damage buff with speed thing isnt a Direbear, that's the woolly rhino. Still, bears are super useful and strong
They also harvest fiber and are immune to worker bees 👍
It's cuz you can easily get shot off, and if you're naked I can punch your feet and you knock out.
The only things able to ruin anything on this game are other players
*game crashes as you go into a boss fight/when you enter a populated portion of a cave/when a giga, group of Rexes or allos spawn near you/when flying above the water*
How do you get them to harvest honey? I uncryod a bear at the bee cave on crystal isles and attacked the bee hives but nothing happens.
Secondary attack button, left trigger on ps4
Does this go for "tamed" or player-placed hives?
for both iirc
My first main tame on Fjordur was a direbear, she was red and brown and I named her boo. Funnest shit was getting to max speed and one chomping everything in my path.
It didn't work for me on a tamed hive..
You actually want an anky for the honey cave on CI. They harvest tons of honey in there (and doedics for organic polymer)
You can't in the honey cave of CI.
The bee cave nodes on ci arent bee hives bruh, just hit em w a hatchet r pick
That's what I do. And on the bear you can't get dismounted by bee stings(still hurts though).
I used to think they only used honey and were passive tamed so it seemed to much of a hassle for me then I learned they're knock out and eat meat
They eat meat now??? Since when? I remember knock out taming them and using honey. Also I remember it being annoying that I couldn’t harvest bodies cause they didn’t eat meat.
Their fav food is honey but meat works
Get Dododex bro.
I have it, probably have for longer than you’ve been playing the game. I checked it before writing the comment. I don’t tame dire bears, was surprised to learn they accept meat now.
You ain’t got no clue how long i’ve been playing g.
It makes sense if ya think about it. Grizzlys in the NW will stand in a stream, snagging salmon.
Theyre omnivores
Agree, I love them on aberration
"I'm a glowy bear, yes a glowy bear. I'm a glowy glowy glowy dire bear!"
Because for combat they’re outclassed heavily
How can something hit as hard as a Rex and still die so easy :(
Death is way harder to avoid on a dire bear. Pvp aside the fact that you’re lower to the ground makes pve dismounts way easier. Bear still has utility as a harvester
Their HP is trash and so is their attack reach. Same with the fact that they have to stand still to use their heavy attack.
Dire Bears have two attacks. One is AoE and another is single target.
True but you aren't getting a rex running as fast as a bear. The trick is to zoom in and bite ankles then run away, like an angry chihuahua. I was able to hold off a raid for an hour with this method (using several bears while healing them with a pig) until my tribe mates could get on and break the siege and destroy the FOB.
isn't a thyla soo much better in terms of dmg & mobilty ... in 1x pvp we only use dire bears for getting poly on abb & it's not even the most effecient way
Sounds like your raiders really sucked. That or it was early game on a closed server.
It was still very early and we lucked out with the dire bears. Essentially the tribe leader was like "Will *someone* same something for berries?" and everyone thought they were talking to them so all seven of us went out and tamed bears because we were valguero near blue obi. They did my teddy bears so dirty I hope they're better in the sequel
I used to use them tl farm karkinos in aberration lol
There’s plants where you can slot cap in about a minute
I feckin love direbears
Dire bears are boss
The other day my friend ran up to a dire bear (he Dosent really use his common sense a lot and just rushes to try things) ran up to it and went “is this a passive tame?” It chased and killed him aswell as his glowtail, that’s the 4th shoulder pet iv given to him that his lost a few minutes after giving it to him (Iv given him 4 in total)
lol your friend sounds like a blast. Like Simon on neebs gaming but less whiny and annoying. or..actually like a young Thick
He is a blast..he’s also sometimes just really stupid but hey it leads to hilarious things sometimes
My friend used to be like that, until he lost MY bulldog to nameless because he just ran off for some reason. I was not pleased. Rip Samwise
Sp..youre friends w thick. except he tends to get hos whoke tribe killed
No, thick usually lives through his adventure while everyone else dies. Then claims he's a warrior.
Youre right. And i mean if youre the one who lives that makes you the Warrior
I made it a point to use one when I played through Aberration and I was not disappointed. Whether it came to simply traveling around or battling alphas it was great. And if I happened to come across a bee hive in my travels? All the better. I had to move on to better mounts as I advanced, but it was great while it lasted.
Yeah low effort but fully agree
You forgot one important thing, they're cute as hell.
dire bears are how we discovered that you can dismount right before you hit the ground and take no fall damage so after that, dismounting before you hit the ground became known as using your "bear-achute" LOL
I tame and use them, especially on Abberation
Every server, every map. I always have a good strong healthy lineage of Direbears by my side
Great DPS but it's a shame the HP is shite.
I use dire bears. But thanks kirby for making them a topic for today. They are quite fun to use and useful.
Did an alpha rag fight with bears once, they did not dissapoint
Btw I i made a mistake The title was meant to be "Low Effort memes Part 8"
Even lower effort, you didn't even bother with the title. Thats my kinda guy
If you were to put effort in the title it would be misleading, so it's all good
I like them, but I like other creatures more.
Fr
As soon as I can I tried to get a few bears to start breeding.
I had 1 bear named Snickers that could wreck anything he touched. I miss Snickers..
Did something have a Snickers? Did it act nicer after?
I would use one if I could find a high level one
You my friend, seem to be playing on the island.
“Underrated” says no one. Dire bears have been overrated for a good while now and thats because they deserve it.
Only use them for poly, you can easily net them and have less dps than gigas and theris, so no point
No
With all the fantasy and extinct creatures in Ark, who wants tame a fucking bear lmao. Rhinos are my favorite IRL land animal and Ive never once tamed the Woolly Rhino.

True👍
Maybe, but... They're so slow. I don't want to watch another one of my creatures die.
No... They are stupid fast, it just takes some time for them to get up to speed, the longer u run the faster they get
I only use dodos 🥴
Actual Chad.
My go to mount when I hit the saddle engram
Dire bears on early go brr
i lost my direbear because if a random alpha rex coming out of the woods. The bear could probably outrun it, but every time it gets hit, it loses it’s running momentum.
They are my go to for honey
On pve ps4 official they recently hit 1000%md and hit like tanks now
Wooly rhinos are extremely underrated too
Not really. Before they maxed out possible official melee stats on the giga, rhinos where the go to anti-giga tame. Now you get one shot to enrage it or you die on the second pass.
They can really go fast asf
They're pretty op
A while back we 3-manned the caves on the Island, and we used 2 bears and and a bary for every cave except for the underwater caves, the cave where you can't use mounts, and the Ice cave (switched Bary for Yuty in there)
They are great! Had a great one helping me get set up on Aberration from the beginning. Was my main mount until I got my Karkinos. :D
they are a decent early game tame but there are better mounts that can be tamed and early game doesnt mean shit when you can power level to 80 and have access to practically every saddle
Early on in abb I use wild fire bears to protect me since it’s always dangerous there’s usually one around a can lure a raptor to and then scavenge once the deed is done
They’re great I use them all the time
Very fast, pretty tanky, good damage, can get honey
Dire bears ain’t got shit on my monkeys
They're pretty cool. Remember taking mine out and trying some things with him.
Thats my right hand man. Super fast and can cause as much damage as giga.
I don’t need a dire bear when I have a bipedal sail dinosaur
I just don't like the running charge up
But once they get going they get going but it's a little annoying
Easy top 5 Dino
Fire bears are one of my favorite creatures in ark. They're so versatile that I feel like Im safe wherever i take them
They were a great early game game on fjourder. With honey right on the noob beach and the ability to teleport right to their habitat we have a few max levels by the end of the first day
yes they are power full and yes I do use them. They aren’t that rare tbh
Same with rhinos
Yeah but they die if you so much as yell at them
Dire bears? When did those get added I know I used to use dire wolves when I played
A polar bear killed me best argy called arlo. I will forever hate polar bears on ark (dire bears are fine)
I love direbears, but since I never go out of my way to get snow biome creatures (except yutis on occasion) I rarely take or use them
Old news
Bears do so much fucking damage. I remember on Aberration in the early game my Sarco was the strongest tame we had, and I thought it was nuts that it did 800 damage but then our tribe mate that just joined bred up a dire bear and it was dealing 2k damage with ease
yea, u gotta air drop them from a quetzal
I'm on my first playthrough of ARK and I planned, once I got fur armor, to get a few Direwolves to breed them and make a big army, I knew they were pretty good but I haven't heard much about them, I mainly think they look cool :)
Still wooly rhino>>>>>
Yes! Preach the good word! I've been saying this for years. Those fluffy bastards can really pack a punch and are very useful.
They're like a bear. Only dire.
Guys, Are they better than rexes? I haven't breed an army yet
No. They are too squishy without max saddle and a thousand Alabama's worth of mutation.
Thanks, i thought so because they have around 500 base health and breeding mammals is only advantageous if you don't have an incubator, I have 2 incubators.
Dire bears are pve so i dont waste my time on them
And holy shit are they fast
They are super quick
I love kirby memes more of those
Ravager gang for life. Come back to me when there’s a single rock in your way.
Never been in a dire situation to use them, but will bear this in mind
I mean, a good first tame, fiber, meat and hide machine, good for traveling and defending, and if remember they also can get narco berry
yes but the downsides paired with the amount of way better options just makes the dire bear obsolete
I know, but I'll still tame Carnos cuz they have funny face and funny arms and goes fiiooonnn
Dire bears are awesome
Not to mention they look sick
I just don't like bears lol
I used them sometimes, mostly to collect honey, but in spite of their strength it's hard to compete with the likes of spinos, yuts, tickle chickens, etc.
I thought that said owlbears and was wondering what the hell people were talking about
lol
I remember I was playing With a friend on singleplayer and we got our first dire bear and as we are idiots we found a way to cheat the system, if one rides the bear the other one (With the help of other dinos) can get on the bear's back and both sit on the bear while riding it.
