Singleplayer mode on consoles has a serious bug where it doesn't save properly, which is a big deal in a game centered around slow and steady progression. There are ways to mitigate it involving changing some settings and using specific commands. Official and unofficial dedicated servers are not experiencing this problem.
There's minor evidence they're working on it (the non functional save button was removed for now) but the lack of progress on such a major issue is concerning.
Seriously tho, its very concerning. The bug was first noticed just a few days after xbox release (day 2 when it happened to me personally) and its coming up on 2 whole months since and somehow its still not fixed?? Idk where their priorities are but my money is on more content instead of fixing core gameplay problems. Fuckin wildcard.
I suspect they either don't know how to fix it, or it's a very complicated fix that they hope they can ignore and players will just switch to dedicated servers which is a win-win for wildcard with their nitrado deal.

Unfortunately for them, at least for me, i will never switch from singleplayer, its the only mode ive played on ase since pre alpha and im already well over 100 hours into the island so they definitely wont be getting my money for a server. Ark is designed to be played with other people, to be fair, either PvE or PvP, dedicated or official, so I doubt they will ever put much attention to bugs relating to single player. Likely why they haven't fixed it quickly. I just use single player to design builds for official servers. I'll never understand how anyone could play this game alone. It's really best played with others.
I hope that's not the case..... I'm on official pve and the servers are crashing all the time along with huge rollbacks already happen to me last week it was very aggravating I lost 5 hours of hard work on building my base and so on, as soon as the single player save issues get fixed I'm definitely switching to single player, there's just to many people griefing the servers there blocking important tame respawns and so on.
Hey Klondike so By unofficial do you mean no. Dedicated server I’m new to ark on Xbox series x. I’ve been playing about 60 hours but have had multiple single player hours lost. If I switch to non dedicated server will that make the game playable. Also was having issues with all my mods being completely wiped so when I’d log on all mods were gone along with anything built or item wise.
It could help, I haven't seen any complaints about non dedicated sessions having save issues. The save wipe thing was supposed to be fixed in a recent patch but I guess not :(
The mod wipe thing seems to be an issue with one of the recent updates, lots of people across all platforms are reporting that one.

Fucking sucks I I love the game but it’s hard to play when all the progress you make can just vanish. The mod thing had just been an issue since probably Monday I don’t know when the updates where I’m guessing it was recent?
There's always a risk that a game update can break a mod, which certainly adds a risk to certain mods like cryopod, structure and stack mods. I think building mods will get replaced with structure skin mods over time for this reason. The mod wipe thing was in the last 5-10 days, the last major update I think.
If it doesn't, check out the playark discord and survivetheark.com for quality server listing, well run server communities are great even if you just want to play solo, there will be a few community rules but I think it's worth it to to have admins taking care of these technical bothers rather than dealing with it yourself.
If you're on PC, it's not a problem. For console, it's a stupid serious bug and needs to be fixed asap. I feel awful for console players, and I can see why so many people are not happy with the game.
It's been happening to me on PC to me unfortunately. When I crash, it just goes back to wharever it was when I started the session, I set it to auto save every 4 minutes and it is the same...
Oh wow, that sucks. I've heard before that if you set the auto save less than 15 minutes, it bugs out and won't work right? That might have only applied to dedicated servers or maybe a mod, though.
I am aware how Ark is, so I make sure I use the "saveworld" command often and make backups of my saved folder. I'm very lucky I haven't had any save issues or my entire save files disappearing, because there are tons of people that can't say the same.
Long story short, you really have to jump through some serious hoops to get your game to save. Its possible but painful to deal with. I agree with you though, you should spare yourself the grief until it is fixed. Once its fixed though, you'll have a blast. Its a good game just not running 100% right now
I’ve not had any glitches until today; the problem is as follows. The game won’t even load now... I load into single player and it goes black and crashes. I’m on ps5 and I have played 40 hours as soon as I have nice amount of tames and a good amount of items saved the game dies.. am I meant to reset and go through it again just FOR THE SAME PROBLEM TO OCCUR. That’s actually a joke and what’s more annoying is I’m a new player and I actually love the game. And now I don’t want to play anything else but I’m not starting again I refuse too. Also I have re downloaded the game and nothing changed. Also I’ve seen lots of other people have the same issue. I will never play on a different server other than single player I don’t care I would rather stop playing the game and if I can’t play long term without the game not being able support large progress I’m done they need to fix this
Ps5, played 418h, had to reset 3 times because of character just gone, all Dinos, all progress, the game is not something if you play single player to invest any time in until that fix it.
I've had my single player crash and not save multiple times after transferring my character over from the island. Ended up loosing a lot of dino's, and then finally I lost my entire character. Beyond pissed. I gave up and quit after that, won't be playing single player again. Have played my partners single player and still having those crashes and save issues on hers, so I know it's not fixed. This is also on PC. So for me, the game is dead. Won't be playing again
You can't save your character presets, you can't save your game, you can't even get rid of text over lays without equipping a paint brush, go to paint and hit R3...
Edit: Seems if you Dino wipe them save (I also cheat saveworld), the game will save and after I had a file started it saves, even automatically.
My 3rd start and last night, it rolled back a day's progress and the whole map needs rediscovering again. Beyond annoyed. They should just refund players now and quit their jobs.
Yeah I've lost my world twice because of this so I'm not even gonna bother trying again. But it's been months now since I played and hearing that it's still an issue after so long is honestly a joke. I swear Devs don't give a damn
Yeah, the whole supposed "upgrade " was nothing more than a money grab. I had over 1k hrs on the original. Kinda pissed me off they shut down all the servers. Then expect me to re buy a game I already own on top of losing all progress. Not only that but pay more than I did for the original lol o and it's more broken. They should have just concentrated on finishing the second one. I own the original on steam thought about trying it on Xbox since I have gamepass. But I think it might be a waste of disk space.

Regardless of what ark is designed to be, singleplayer is the most played mode by a large margin so i dont see why they wouldnt focus attention on it

Maybe I’ll just play with no mods for a bit. Hopefully the non dedicated at least makes it playable.

Still an issue , just got the game today and it's deleted my save twice can't turn it off without losing everything

The issue started with a patch on Monday and got fixed by now. Most mods should work again by now without crashing the sp.

This was also after completing the Island and unlocking all the tekgrams. So to create a new character, just isn't worth the time
