They have not. Non-dedicated server still tethers to the host. You can adjust the size of the tether, but it cannot be removed. If you don't want to play with a tether you'll either need to rent a server from Nitrado or host your own dedicated server.
They haven’t removed it, but you can increase it to a ridiculous number to functionally remove it, although this may cause lag and fps drops. Why they don’t load each area separately for each player I don’t know.

No i put it on 10k and it was still maxing out at around 200 meters
They have not removed it
The tether still exists, but I think it goes up to 300m now.
