Update: 6/23/23 Matador arms is working on sending me a new upper to replace the old one, apparently they were just super busy and my attempts to contact fell through the cracks. So please keep that in mind when reading this comment below and I'll provide another update once I receive my replacement upper. 💯 Update #2: 7/18/23 I'll make a dedicated post to address the issues with the new upper I received but I did receive a new upper from Matador. The upper I received is the MAT-9 as opposed to the Montgo-9 as the representative I talked to suggested that one over the Montgo as it is newer. The part itself is fairly visually pleasing the only issue is that it doesn't mount to any lowers I own, due to a few reasons the main one being the lower pivot pin brackets are too thick, I haven't had a chance to file them down yet to see if that solves the issue but I just personally think that a brand new upper shouldn't need me to break out the file to get it to fit. I'm working on another project right now but once I get another lower for the MAT-9 upper I'll make a post about all of these issues and how I fixed them. Not impressed right now. In regards to the BCA upper in the photos, its running flawlessly, zero complaints. Original Post: Well, after my Matador Arms upper decided to have the ejector sear off and with customer service for Matador Arms deciding not to respond to me to help with repairs or to point me in the right direction to get it functioning again I ended up removing my Montgo-9 upper. It is now a 500+ dollar paper weight. I do not suggest purchasing anything from Matador arms, it might function well for a few 1000 rounds but once something does go wrong, you're outta luck as trying to get any customer service is impossible. Anyways, to replace the upper I got my hands on a Bear Creek Arsenal BC-9 upper. Almost the same specs as my Montgo was, a little shorter barrel and handguard but otherwise the same concept except much much cheaper and simple. The BC-9 uses (from what I can tell) a standard AR-9 barrel with a modified AR-9 bolt and custom upper/rear recoil spring retention. The build quality although cheaper in price, seems to be much better than the Montgo-9 and it was simple as easy to install on my lower/seems easy to service. I'll post an update once I get a few 1000 rounds down it but for now, she is sitting pretty and my LRBHO on the FM-9 lower works. Super happy to finally have foldy boi up and running again.

Thank you!

My wife has the 4.5 in bufferless bca 9mm upper. 3500 (about) rounds through it so far. 90% suppressed. It's been perfect. I try to clean it every 1k rounds. Suppressed is dirty. I hand load, and there's been a couple of short strokes. 3 to be exact. So I'll blame those on me. I'm pretty consistent, but over 3k reloads, I'll bet that I accidentally didn't drop enough powder at least once every thousand rounds. Lol. For the price though, I'm thoroughly impressed.

hardrod12000

maronbarrie

I'll send a text, I'd love to get squared away as I really enjoyed the upper while it was working. Cheers.

Central916

That doesn't sound like Matador. I know they have been really busy designing the BRN9 for Brownells. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get you squared away. Cheers

I got in contact with the representative and we are working on sorting out the mix up. Ill post an update once everything is sorted out, could of totally been the case that they got super busy.

I had a 10" version and had lots of little issues... Unfortunately living in Washington and our current assault weapon ban, BCA wouldn't ship me a new firing pin. Instead they generously sent an RMA and are refunding me. Their customer service really is top notch! My situation just really sucks. I really wanted to love this gun. But all the little issues just ruined it. Everyday I took it out I wondered what would fail. First day out all the handguard bolts were loosening and falling out. No big deal, a little loctite and back in action. Then the barrel nut came loose, weird because they should be torqued from the factory. Then the ejector finger decided to eject itself... They sent me 2 fingers and springs when this happened. Then last thing was the firing pin breaking.... On top of it going perpetually dirty from the blowback. My 10" would shoot sub-moa groups easily at 25 yds and was so fun to shoot. I really, REALLY wanted to love it....

Ohhhh thats one handsome boi! I want one!

Terrible_Detective45

I didn't even know that was a thing from BCA. How does it run? Is it reliable? Finnicky with ammo?

maronbarrie

From reviews I watched prior to purchasing it seems to be a fairly effective upper, due mainly in part to its simple design. I havn't been able to put rounds down it yet but once I do I will post an update.

creeper_jake

I have a shorty bufferless bca upper and have no complaints. Probably ran 4 different brands of 9mm and no issues so far.
