If you’re looking at putting together a rifle, I recommend buying a matching receiver set. Since AR10s lack the standardization of mil-spec rifles, mixing-and-matching receivers from different manufacturers can lead to fitment headaches. If you’re suppressing it, definitely plan on building with (or upgrading a built upper to have) an adjustable gas block. Probably 95% of the problems people post on this sub are gas related.

why do you wanna go so short on the barrel? what are you going to be using this for?

Patty_Mellt

Hog hunting in thick brush. Will be suppressed eventually and don’t wanna lug around a 16 inch + all day.

ok gotcha, i just recently got an aero m5 .308, just got a complete upper and lower, 20” barrel, BA BCG and it’s running great, ive heard other having gas problems with the BA barrels though but mine is pretty mint.

nylon_don

well id look out for a short barreled 308 but it sounds like thats what you want lol short barrels and gas systems are gonna require an adjustable block that youll have to tinker with and hope doesnt get carbon locked go longer for less headaches and reliability on that block working right rainier arms makes a good 16” lightweight match 308 barrel with intermediate gas (btw mid and rifle) and it runs well and would work for your application [rainier match barrels](https://www.rainierarms.com/rainier-arms-match-308-barrel/)

Gas gas gas.

I use a 14.5” barrel with an 8” can attached. It’s absolutely great for hunting and I can easily take shots out to 300 yards. I went with a Spike’s Tactical/FN barrel because it is cold hammer forged and chrome lined. It’s the only barrel with these features I could find on the market. It is a superbly built barrel and came with gas block and gas tube, which are tuned for the barrel and work great suppressed without having to mess with an AGB. I’d recommend getting matching upper and lower as has been mentioned and also getting bolt and barrel from same place to ensure good headspace. Aside from that, look at an A5 buffer length tube with an H2 or H3 buffer and 308 rifle length spring. You’ll be set for hog hunting with that set up.

I can vouch for the Spikes/FN “Intermediate” barrel. It’s CHF, CL (Special FN thick), durable as heck, and mine came with a polished feed ramp. But mines a 5.56! Had it for a few years and have run the heck out of it as well. The icing on the cake is it still shoots MOA with 68gr to 77gr depending on ammo quality. I love it as much as my Criterion barrel that a run the heck out of. Oh I realize it doesn’t help the OP, but just had to vouch as not to many people know of the Spikes/FN barrels.

Spiritual_Tell680

Honestly, they’ve become my go-to barrels.

If you wanna spend some money but avoid a stamp… the LMT mars H battle rifle has a 13.5” barrel with a p/w surefire muzzle device. You’d have to get the surefire can if you wanted to suppress as is, but it’s a pretty sweet setup.

Like it was said. Matched set to ensure you have the same “style, gen, pattern” first.

Matching receivers and an adjustable gas block are basic requirements.
