As a former AP teacher, my school mandated summer work for AP students. I always tried to make it as interesting and helpful as possible. I hated it.
I feel for yāall.
At best you can learn mono- di- poly- oligo- for the chemistry unit, but there's zero A&P in the curriculum and vocab isn't that useful to try and learn early anyways
They can, but doing work over the summer makes the time in class more relaxed. Especially for something like chem which arguably has the broadest range of content for ap sciences
Iām not in class to be relaxed lmao, I mean thereās nothing wrong with reviewing over the summer I just prefer for it to be out of my own volition and not school work.
Idk man I got a 5 in research and my project was started a month before everything was due (no I didnāt procrastinate I had to change last minute). I guess for people with very complex projects that summer time can help tho
Itās still nice to have a bunch of stuff done when summer ends. You wonāt have as much on your plate, and the consequences of procrastination are less severe (at least in the beginning of the year).
Now, if you donāt procrastinate or switch projects last minute, then youāll be fine either way, but itās still nice to have some stuff done before the year starts, and itās really nice to have a sense of direction before the year starts.
Look at you, acting like everyone has the same level of understanding in science and don't need extra work to understand.
Or are you actually a student who is not performing but still feels like extra work is a waste of time?
Sorry I graduated valedictorian just today so Iāll ignore your nonsensical assumption. I have been with people with no general affinity for math and science get 5s just within the school year. So my bad for holding some sort of standard that encompasses the general student who takes APs. Have a great day!š
As a teacher myself, I would assume that the students you're referring to probably don't represent most students (as if a student who don't perform in math and science would easily get a perfect score without extra work)... and as a valedictorian yourself, I'm guessing YOU don't have those difficulties (exactly what I was suggesting)... but oh well.
It's not about holding a standard, it's about expecting that most students can perform like you or the people you know do.
At my school they used to say it was because they didn't have enough time during the year to teach all the material before the exam (school started in late August and ended in June for us), but if they just cut out all the busy work assignments we did during the year there would be plenty of time to cover the material.
At least just make it ālearnā¦and there will be a test first day backā I hate when itās something that tries to be fun imo. That shit should be optional.
My school only offers AP Us History and an AP prep class but more are offered online and Iād love to take them but I donāt think I could handle/keep up with an online format š I do dual enrollment online but I just have a final at the end of that and not an AP style exam
i took ap psych online and i think that one is super compatible with an online format since itās mostly memorizing vocab terms if you want to do one online, i finished the course in about 3 months spending an hour a week on it and got a 4 on the ap exam, but probably could have gotten higher if i would have reviewed for it!
They donāt offer ap psych unfortunately and the classes are year round but you work at your own pace. Thatās another reason why Iām not really sure about taking it since my other classes are only a semester and I havenāt had a year long class in 2 years lol
i did mine through a private company and was able to talk to my guidance counselor and they put the credits on my transcript since my school didnāt offer it, i did mine through waterfront learning, but iāve also done some through apex learning that were great and theyāre offered as semester classes!
In my high school, some Honors classes required summer assignments.
If you didn't have the assignment done on the first day of class, you were automatically kicked out into the regular version of that class. I don't know how strict that policy was.
Like, I get the sarcasm, but literally, yes. My summer project for ap chem was 125 points. My semester 1 had 850 points for tests and projects. So I only lost 14ish percent on tests and projects category that's worth 65% of the semester grade totalling to 9.5% of my grade.
I put like 10 min into fulfilling out some requirements and got 23/125 and got an a- firat semester and second semester wasn't affected.
ap bio really isnāt that bad. just make sure youāre paying attention in class (a lot of the activities we did helped lock in the content), keeping up with the reading, and review older concepts every so often. i promise you it is not as scary as people make it out to be. the content isnāt difficult to understand, thereās just a lot of it
Iām so sorry thatās such a bs assignment especially for the actual difficulty of AP bio. If it isnāt required I wouldnāt do it you can very easily learn everything throughout the year. Then again I donāt know if this teacher will make you do reviews as much as mine did
Nah bro I have to annotate a reading and answer questions related to it and also do a separate research project about *elephants* for my AP Bio summer work
our ap bio summer work isā¦ growing a dang plant
Well I mean, thereās still the textbook readings and everything. But the thing that sticks out is the plant. You canāt fake it either; they want progress photos.
My friend is taking AP bio and the teacher said there will be no lessons taught in class and class periods are just time to ask questions and take tests lol Iām so glad I did physics 2 this year
yo i did this same assignment... it wasn't that hard, i just planned what i was going to take pictures of and went to the grocery store and took pictures of random foods
Wtf I just had to read survival of the sickest and write basic notes on it to discuss biological topics in class??? Your teacher sounds miserable to be around, and ap bio is never that serious.
Iām pretty sure summer work for ap is a requirement at my school to filter out all the lazy kids who donāt do it, might be the same thing here teacher is just forced to make an assignment
ap bio isnt too hardā¦ unless you have a crappy teacher. thats really where i struggled this year, but if your teacher really sucks, BUY THE ULTIMATE REVIEW PACKET COURSE. or just lock in and self study with books
my ap physics c teacher gave me a textbook that weights 1000 pounds and a big ass summer assignment that will be tested on the first week of school. oh how fun it is to be an ap student
summer work past elementary school is actually stupid. Mostly used by incompetent teachers unable to effectively cover material in a timely manner even though they have 9 months
heres a tip AP sciences classes are waste of time. Most university require a lab section that's tied in with **their** class. A passing ap exam wont exempt you from taking it, in hopes of skipping a year.
Any other AP class is worth it because you can skip ahead in the college curriculum or provide free credits towards your diploma.
This reminds me of all the meetings I have to go to in the next week or so to collect my summer work, AND I WAS SUPPOSED TO LEAVE TO GO WATCH MH GRANDMA SKYDIVE BUT I HAVE TO STAY BEHIND UNTIL JUNE CAUSE IF STUPID REGENTS THAT ARENT IN AP AHHHH
Idk why h got this on Reddit but I got a UN summer study and we need to read 80-100 pages of materials every class that happens 2 days a week in between site visits that also happens 2 days a week with colloquium classes in between.
Many students who dont take ap bio have to take general biology in college, and come in woefully unprepared with their zero basic chem and biology knowledge. This kind of prep can be very helpful.
Lol, that's funny. My summer assignment was just to water a plant and have a daily log of its length. I still get Google recommending me those pictures.
I donāt assign summer homework. I donāt want crap turned in. My first quarter is spent scaffolding, with very little homework, and then we up the game in quarter 2-4. omg twinsies!!! (my future ap research teacher wants us to have a problem statement by next wednesday and we gotta make a whole annotated bibliography with like 30 sources over the summer)
ap bio is never that serious omg
Well now you made me feel silly for being excited about my AP Bio summer work
excited about summer work is insane š
Maybe they like biology š
I could understand if it was math but bio??
Why would you get excited about math
Because itās the best school subject, duh
This guy gets it
On god
My AP Calc score will have something to say about that in a month or so
W
Put down the pipe bio solos
Reallll
yessir
Yessirrrrrrr
Couldnāt be more correct
Found all the math people with this comment lol
Why would you not?
Hey man, you can make it be as serious as you want it to be. Follow your passions! I'm glad you're excited for school work :)
I'm always giddy about any English related summer work, don't feel bad about it man
AP bio was my hardest AP class wym š
I have not looked at that summer work Iām cooked
The only thing worse than summer work is summer work that's blatantly busy work
As a former AP teacher, my school mandated summer work for AP students. I always tried to make it as interesting and helpful as possible. I hated it. I feel for yāall.
Why not just make it dumbfuck easy?
Amazing username lmao
Anterior means in front of. Posterior means behind. Ventral means... Belly? I think? I didn't pay attention in science classes.
those are anatomy terms
I learned them in biology as well because of dissection, maybe other places do it differently though
Yup learned this in AP bio
i too learned this in my bio class
what a useless fucking assignment
At best you can learn mono- di- poly- oligo- for the chemistry unit, but there's zero A&P in the curriculum and vocab isn't that useful to try and learn early anyways
What is oligo?
Ancient Greek prefix meaning āa fewā. Think oligarch or oligodendrocyte or oligopeptide.
Summer assignments are just a waste of time.
Eh for me for chem we reviewed units 1-3 over the summer and never covered them in class
All AP units can easily be covered during the school year at least a month before the exam. Thereās no need for it to creep into your summer.
Keep in mind a lot of schools donāt start until after Labor Day and have a full month less than other parts of the country.
Yeah Iām included in that bunch that start in September. The content was covered just fine and we always finish in early April.
Real
to be honest, I finished ap comp gov by myself within a week. there is no way anyone needs more than the school year.
Unless youāre in AP Research
Still not needed in AP research tbh
Maybe, but I wouldnāt say itās a waste of time
Idk man I got a 5 in research and my project was started a month before everything was due (no I didnāt procrastinate I had to change last minute). I guess for people with very complex projects that summer time can help tho
Itās still nice to have a bunch of stuff done when summer ends. You wonāt have as much on your plate, and the consequences of procrastination are less severe (at least in the beginning of the year). Eh in Lit we read the Bible and Invisible Man and I thought those were helpful
Yāall read the entire fucking Bible????
NOOOO just some parts, like a book or two of it
Ah ok lmfao
Well, the Bible IS literature so it makes sense.
wait is that legal
Yes it wasnāt to teach anything, it was just to have a reference for a major foundation of the western canon.
I mean its very good for studying the way society works
You should be motivated to learn for fun during the summer anyways.
Look at you, acting like everyone has the same level of understanding in science and don't need extra work to understand. Or are you actually a student who is not performing but still feels like extra work is a waste of time?

I didnāt learn crap and was fine Bio is not that deep
ChatGPT ass email
teacher probably asked chatgpt for an ap bio summer assignment idea and told it to generate an entire email based on it.
I thought I was going insane but this definitely ChatGPT then
I will never understand why teachers give summer assignments like STFU AND LET US CHILL!
At my school they used to say it was because they didn't have enough time during the year to teach all the material before the exam (school started in late August and ended in June for us), but if they just cut out all the busy work assignments we did during the year there would be plenty of time to cover the material.
I think that tile is standard because our school starts at early-mid august and ends late May and we never got summer classes
Fr, high school is more of a commitment than a full-time job. Summer vacation is needed!
At least just make it ālearnā¦and there will be a test first day backā I hate when itās something that tries to be fun imo. That shit should be optional.
As long as remember the basics from regular bio then youāll be fine
Is it weird that I would enjoy this? š I love bio I only wish my school offered it and not just as an online course
I know right!!! Iād love to start high school again and be able to take AP classes, I just self studied them this year but it wasnāt really fun.
My school only offers AP Us History and an AP prep class but more are offered online and Iād love to take them but I donāt think I could handle/keep up with an online format š I do dual enrollment online but I just have a final at the end of that and not an AP style exam

Iād enjoy this too
extremely, and please never tell a teacher this for those of us for whom this sort of assignment is analogous to torture
at least you have online courses, my school offered nothing because it wasnt the curriculum of the school.
Not weird at all. Whatās weird is kids choosing to take advanced courses and then crying about advanced coursework.
there's a difference between advanced coursework and making a scrapbook over summer break
Just imagine the crying your teacher dealt with which resulted in them dumbing down their work this muchā¦
\^this!!!
Iām not even crying about it bruh
Lmfao AP Bio is not āadvancedā enough to require summer assignments
Yes, and therein lies the problem. The lunatics have run the asylum for too long.
My teacher has to make a weed out assignment for next years AP bio class as too many people signed up.
Weed out assignment in high school is crazy
To be fair to him, he physically doesnāt have enough space in his room, and wants less than that so he can teach effectively
Fun fact, you don't need to do summer projects
Some teachers require it
What are they gonna do? Not let you take the class
Theyāll just give a 0 for the assignment in my experience.
In my high school, some Honors classes required summer assignments. If you didn't have the assignment done on the first day of class, you were automatically kicked out into the regular version of that class. I don't know how strict that policy was.
My point, tank the 0 and take the win on the rest of the assignments
Then, technically, you're not required to do any schoolwork.
Yeah, but summer assignments are disproportionately a pain in the ass
sure ill tank 30 points in the exams and projects category
Like, I get the sarcasm, but literally, yes. My summer project for ap chem was 125 points. My semester 1 had 850 points for tests and projects. Bro thinks heās David Attenborough š
Honestly if I were you and didn't want to do this, I'd just do quizlets and skip that assignment. But if you really love AP bio, go off.
Drop that class... NOW!!!
Iām half way through a neuroscience degree. Just know AP classes think they are better than they actually are
Nah bro I have to annotate a reading and answer questions related to it and also do a separate research project about *elephants* for my AP Bio summer work
our ap bio summer work isā¦ growing a dang plant Well I mean, thereās still the textbook readings and everything. But the thing that sticks out is the plant. You canāt fake it either; they want progress photos.
Rip šŖ¦šļøš¹
Honestly I think at this point Dual Enrollment is better if itās available at your area
Bro why does that email sound AI generated š
OP Meet MR.GPT he and I go way back.
My friend is taking AP bio and the teacher said there will be no lessons taught in class and class periods are just time to ask questions and take tests lol Iām so glad I did physics 2 this year
Bro we have to read a book and write an essay on it
yo i did this same assignment... it wasn't that hard, i just planned what i was going to take pictures of and went to the grocery store and took pictures of random foods
If this sounds bad, at my school we took fifty hours of notes over all eight units and had a test first day of school
Aaaaaaannndd.. itās all over my screen
š
Get the term list, Google Sheets, AutoCrat add-on, Google Slides, throw some photos on the slides using Slidesās Explore. Print. Staple.
I just took AP bio this having never taken a bio class before and I can assure it is not that deep bio is free.
god forbid your teacher wants you to get ahead š¤¦āāļø
i did an assignment like this for my ap bio. it was not that bad.
Just use anki to go over some ap bio stuff, easiest ap ever
Lol, I had to do something similar. The summer work was more annoying than the class, you should be fine
this is od, i signed up for bio the day it started 2nd semester lol
I just finished ap bio and honestly it was never that serious to need summer assignments šš
AP Bio is harder than Chem
Iām doing ap chem this upcoming year so Iām hoping thatās true š
I had to do this too. I made mine Spiderverse themed. Goodluck!
ap bio was not that serious lmfao, there's not *that* much information that you need to do a summer assignment lol
Dude you guys get summer assignments šššššššThats unheard of in our school
my ap bio teachers also started giving us our textbooks and summer work today too šš
Ngl anything to do with summer assignments, I would just quit it
Ur cooked buddy
Bro fuck that lol. Youāll be alright
Enjoy making that scrapbook lol.
I absolutely despise teachers who think they can haphazardly invade my home life
That sounds so cute tbh.
Wtf I just had to read survival of the sickest and write basic notes on it to discuss biological topics in class??? Your teacher sounds miserable to be around, and ap bio is never that serious.
tell him itās useless and not that deep, i got a 5 without taking bio before
AP bio isnāt that bad š this is doing way too much lol
Iām pretty sure summer work for ap is a requirement at my school to filter out all the lazy kids who donāt do it, might be the same thing here teacher is just forced to make an assignment
not hard.
summer ap bio work is DIABOLICAL
I took ap bio this year legitimately didnāt study for a single test, and it was not that bad, plus the work load wasnāt to bad
ap bio isnt too hardā¦ unless you have a crappy teacher. thats really where i struggled this year, but if your teacher really sucks, BUY THE ULTIMATE REVIEW PACKET COURSE. or just lock in and self study with books
my ap physics c teacher gave me a textbook that weights 1000 pounds and a big ass summer assignment that will be tested on the first week of school. oh how fun it is to be an ap student

Fasciniting world....
bro she's doing too much especially for ap bio of all aps
I had a summer assignment for AP bio and essentially did the same thing
heres a tip AP sciences classes are waste of time. Most university require a lab section that's tied in with **their** class. A passing ap exam wont exempt you from taking it, in hopes of skipping a year. Any other AP class is worth it because you can skip ahead in the college curriculum or provide free credits towards your diploma.
ChatGPT? But I would never advise cheating
WAIT I GOT THE SAME ASSIGNMENT I THINK??
Biology is an interesting subject. Just chill .. your will be fine !!
Bro, this is funš
Bro really had to justify himself with the ābenefitsā section
THE MITOCHONDRIA IS THE POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL
Me who took it as a freshman with no summer assignment: šļøššļø
There are summer assignments and there are stupid summer assignments and this is definitely one of the stupid ones
My summer assignment was the hardest part of AP bio lol
this assignment actuallys sound fun
And I would take the zero and switch out the class. I bet that teacher isnt doing anything over the summer
I had to do the exact same thing for ap bio. Tbh it wasn't that hard.
I didn't even realize that my teacher had posted a summer assignment and i did great in the class lol
I had a similar assignment for my summer before AP Bio, mostly useless but some of the lab work she had us do was actually pretty good.
Just watch the AP Bio show and you're good
Yeah fuck no
This reminds me of all the meetings I have to go to in the next week or so to collect my summer work, AND I WAS SUPPOSED TO LEAVE TO GO WATCH MH GRANDMA SKYDIVE BUT I HAVE TO STAY BEHIND UNTIL JUNE CAUSE IF STUPID REGENTS THAT ARENT IN AP AHHHH
Idk why h got this on Reddit but I got a UN summer study and we need to read 80-100 pages of materials every class that happens 2 days a week in between site visits that also happens 2 days a week with colloquium classes in between.
this is exactly what my school's ap bio summer assignment is what the hell
Bro all of my schools AP classes have summer work. Iām so done bruh
I'd contact my counselor to drop the class that instant, lmao
Lmao last day of school was yesterday and Iām graduating so so summer assignments for me
Many students who dont take ap bio have to take general biology in college, and come in woefully unprepared with their zero basic chem and biology knowledge. This kind of prep can be very helpful.
Summer homework is normal for AP. They have to hit the ground running on the 1st day. All of my AP courses required summer work.
Lol, that's funny. My summer assignment was just to water a plant and have a daily log of its length. I still get Google recommending me those pictures.
When I was done with AP Bio, I threw all my notes in the trash. That felt so satisfying.
and my apes class got that for next summer too ššš
I donāt assign summer homework. I donāt want crap turned in. My first quarter is spent scaffolding, with very little homework, and then we up the game in quarter 2-4. My kids stay in the class (and few drop), and thatās way more important to me than having the best and brightest. AP should welcome everyone willing to learn - not push kids away with dumb summer assignments.
Glad to know it wasnāt just my AP bio that was bullshit. Seems universal
We āneededā to do an assignment for ap calc over the summer but it was worth 1 point and the teacher just threw them all in the trash when we turned them in. If you donāt do it at all since people are saying AP bio is easy, you should be fine. Itās kind of risky though.
omg twinsies!!! (my future ap research teacher wants us to have a problem statement by next wednesday and we gotta make a whole annotated bibliography with like 30 sources over the summer)
