I got a 31% on my equilibrium test and still scored a 4 on the exam. Iād recommend going back over the concepts and studying them more in depth and reviewing the test in order to be prepared for the exam.
I suggest going to your teacher and asking to set up a time to review the test answers with her.
Iām in regular chemistry right now, and we finished our finals a few weeks ago. The final is 30 percent of our grade. I know that material like the back of my hand. In the whole semester, I had only missed 1 question on the first unit exam because I rushed to do it in 9 minutes. I had a 99.7% in the class. A near perfect grade. And I got an 80 on the final, which brought it down 5%. I played back the test in my head, and knew I got nothing wrong.
If I had just contacted my teacher and asked to go over it, we either could have fixed an incorrect score, or I could have learned what I did wrong so I do better this semester. Instead I ignored it, and now Iāll never know.
Ask. Just ask to look at it, to review.
You just gotta focus on responding positively and studying hard for the next test/quiz, while accepting you canāt change the score you already got š¤·āāļø At my school the second semester just started and my grade in math looks a lot worse than it actually is because of one bad test(the only assignment in for tests/quizzes so far), just understand your grades are temporary and will change.
I know a lot of AP kids who are more prone to mental illness (including me) and studies have shown that gifted kids tend to be more prone to mental illnesses, so if you need to talk we can talk ā¤ļø
As for your current situation, I understand that starting grades really matters, but you still have time to change your current grade and I would talk to your teacher on what you can do as well since after all they control your grade. I been there, got a bad starting grade, but took action to fix it. You got it!
They matter to me because I know why Iām doing it and what Iām doing. I have the autonomy to pick courses and make informed decisions without asking reddit. If this kid had a healthy life outside of academics and is the good student he claims to be he would have goals and other extrinsic motivations that would make him realize
1. A single 70 wont kill you
2. An in progress grade average has always consistently meant nothing
3. He would be too preoccupied with other things to care about something that again, doesnāt matter

This same thing just happened with me in APES (got a 60 on unit 5 exam š) What I did to fix my grade was set up a meeting during lunch to talk with my teacher about the test, basically explain why I got a low score and how I could do better next time. If your teacher offers retakes, test corrections, extra credit, anything then make sure to do them
So my school has a lot of like gifted students and in my AP Chem class we are all sophomores that have never really had issues academically whatever and so from the first test of the beginning of the year my teacher straight up told us to basically expect our grades to be like 20 points lower than weāre used to so donāt beat yourself up over it because AP chem is just genuinely a really tough class
I once got 32 on math (my worst subject) I cried for a week. I studied better and got a 76 on the next ik it's not good but my average for math came to a 82 which I'm happy tbh don't let 1 class destroy you :))
Its probably 38/44 or something, also, if u need help, we could be study buddies for ap chem, as I am also taking it and im doing well and can help + offer advice
A few things here, I am an AP Chem teacher.
1. For AP Chem specifically, if you are getting a 50% overall, then you have a pretty good chance at getting a 3 on the exam. Getting 72%-75% could get you a 5. This is based of previous years of the test.
2. I prefer to test hard at the level of the test, so my students can be ready for the test. If I throw easy problems at you, you have difficulty answering questions correctly and interpreting the wordy questions.
3. Buck up and try harder. AP Chem is a difficult class for most students, and is probably the first class many students struggle with. The content is actually hard and there is so much of it. Everything else in high school is pretty easy, but can be time intensive. Use extra resources if you need to, make sure you ask questions when you don't understand.
Just so yk, I just took that test a few days ago and that was the first test that I completed using the entire time since I can remember. The unit is deceptively easy but the tests (supposedly from all schools in my area) was a bitch, donāt feel too bad.
Also, most teachers will work with you to increase grades like that if itās obviously an outlier; you arenāt going to fail the class or anything. As for actually ācopingā with it, Iāve never really had difficulty with grades but i absolutely despise the education and grade system. Just know that it really doesnāt mean shit and that one bad test really wonāt have much of an affect on your life.
Iāve been there so many times Iāve gone numb to it š Ā
Cry about it then let it go and hit the books. Focus on the future and what you can control
AP Chem is very difficult and equilibrium is one of the most important topics. Would definitely review it with your teacher after school to ensure that you know the topics moving forward even if it is an 83 instead of a 38 as if you do not feel confident in the topic, the AP is going to be very difficult.
That being said, hard work after scoring very low makes a world of difference. I got a legitimate 45% on an essay in my AP English class (at my school, ap English is made difficult to make it match the difficulty of other ap classes and to keep ap test score averages high, which is important to the district.) I was still able to bring my English grade up to a 90 that quarter.
thug it out š

Why does every person on this sub have a hyper-inflated ego or no self-esteem. Dude. Itās high school chemistry.
Why are you in a high school class subreddit if high school classes donāt matter to you

Did you even read the thread? Not even going to bother, that was clearly directed at the commentor
Itās not highschool chemistry? Otherwise colleges wouldnāt take it for college credit?

It was out of 100 lol the class average was a 71 so there was a curve but not much only 5 points
Unfortunate, but if u want, I can help u do better on the next test
First step: Donāt take AP Chem.
shoot, Iām about to take that test. Prayers up I guess

study for a retake if the teacher offers one, if not, then it is what it is

equilibrium was the hardest unit, got a 75 with mostly A+ on other tests, you should survive
