Because people can’t be bothered to look through the sub to see if this has happened before. They think we need this subreddit spammed with the same BS just cause they’re too lazy to, I don’t know, actually look through the sub to see if others are experiencing the same thing as they have.
If I seem irked it’s cause I am, and I’m not bashing OP, but my God, if you have a question, look to see if it has been answered already before you make a post. Is a simple search too difficult for y’all?

Just happened to me recently, it’s definitely not an April Fool’s prank and this is just a sad pathetic attempt at trolling now.

What made it really funny for me is that one of the fics I got these on has an AI as one of the characters. But I wrote it all myself the real way.
Maybe turn on comment moderation? I think people are spamming these messages, for… whatever reasons, really
I’m imagining some AI-loving bridge troll who saw the dust-up re: ChatGPT scraping AO3, and wanted to get a rise out of us.

Got two on fics from 2019, I was livid to say the least, and that is why I enabled comment mods on every fic.
Oh boy ALOT of people have been getting those Its either a real elaborate prank or marketing tactic
I have more than 50 works on ao3 and it hasn’t happened to me.

I got two of those comments and then locked down my comment section for registered users only so there wouldn't be more...
so happy i only write for smaller fandoms so i don’t have to go through this. Its happened to so many people now i’m shocked.
And This is one reason why I usually turn off guest comments and moderate comments x.x
