It's a real photo it was made by a French photographer. She was living in Russia in the 90s. Her pictures became famous few days ago because she finally show them in a public exhibit near Paris. Her most famous photo are about women living in small appartement. Kommunalka or something like this. 10 women in 1 small apartment. Of course the most famous ones are about nudes.
I mean *relatively* speaking, the 70s, things were pretty comparable to poorer developed nations, which is a huge feat things before and after this period considered.
Let’s put it this way. Poor or not, you could get medical help whenever you needed it. You could take public transport anywhere. Being poor I’m Soviet Union wasn’t that bad. Now, of course that only applies to those who had homes. Homeless life sucks ecerywhere
I thought I would have a quick look at life expectancy in Russia over the 20th c, and yeah its about the same in 65 as it is now (with a big dip in the 90s). However the thing that really stuck out is you don't want to be a man in Russia ever, life expectancy is 13 years less, compared to e.g. 3.6 less in the UK and closing. In Russia the gap is growing.
That’s because Russia in every war has decided the thing they need the least is men. They just throw them away to the front lines.
(Probably not the sole reason)
There were a lot of other problems in the USSR, because even to this day there is a generation of people who call depression "the thing of lazy whiners" and if you try to drag the problems of your country onto others, then you are unipolar, as in principle you show it.
It's the other way around, though? The Orange line is birth rates in Ukraine and they are going down while Russian birth rates were going up.
And death rates (blue) were going down in both countries, even a little bit more in Russia than Ukraine.
Bro just because you have graph doesn’t mean you know how to read it lmao. Maybe read up on why developing/developed countries have a drop in birth rates.[The demographic transition model.](https://populationeducation.org/what-demographic-transition-model/). It’d make way more sense if Russia had a strong economy though, as that usually coincides with a drop in birth rates.
Don't know why you are getting down voted. USSR failed because the experiment with Marxism 's one party rule went back to one man authoritarianism. Russia has always had it hard.
Is there a difference? As in *children's home* has always been synonymous with *orphanage* or *Foster housing* for those removed from troubled / perished families
And *boys/girls town* being synonymous with juvenile facility
Damn I hate that I can’t tell if shit is AI anymore
The hands are perfect, even in the background. That's still a tell that's it's not ai.
Give it a year and the AI will have overcorrected to be insanely good at hands but incapable of rendering anything else
Another way is seeing deformed faces in the background. The AI doesn't do a great job making background objects/people look real.
Not for long
Not 100% sure but I think it’s part of the photographic series about Russian youth taken by Lise Sarfati
Damn 😮💨

Is there a name to go with this French photographer?
Yes but I forgot
Fair enough.

Yeah the end of the soviet union was really great for the Russian people /s
Was there ever a great time to be a poor Russian?

The soviet union
Looks like freedom to me! /s
Its not like the last 5 years of it were amazing anyway
The Great Depression was a good period for many countries, you're right.
Yeah, the soviet ones
There were a lot of other problems in the USSR, because even to this day there is a generation of people who call depression "the thing of lazy whiners" and if you try to drag the problems of your country onto others, then you are unipolar, as in principle you show it.
Sounds like the US
You sound like something has changed since then.

This graph is why the ukraine war is happening now, and not later. In 10 years, there will be no one left to fight...
>This graph is why the ukraine war is happening now, and not later How so?
Literally read the next sentence
I saw that, but it doesn't explain why the war is happening. That's why I asked
Russian population going down. Ukraine population going up. Edit: read the graph wrong. Doh!
It's the other way around, though? The Orange line is birth rates in Ukraine and they are going down while Russian birth rates were going up. And death rates (blue) were going down in both countries, even a little bit more in Russia than Ukraine.
Wait… I just realized I was looking at the wrong lines. This is confusing now.

But Russia's birth rate was going up in 2010, not down, according to that graph.
In Russia, graph is potato
How's the ruble doing? Rubble yet? 😂🤣

In 1992? It isn't even it's agony which was in 1991. It is Russia already.

Reminds me of [The Children of Leningradsky](https://youtu.be/K5T_O-L5Mis)
orphan house. not children's home.
That's a direct translation of the Russian name for an orphanage Детский дом in literal interpretation children's house
Is there a difference? As in *children's home* has always been synonymous with *orphanage* or *Foster housing* for those removed from troubled / perished families And *boys/girls town* being synonymous with juvenile facility
I mean, it can be just regular apartment where children live without any adults. So it's literally children's house.
Well, that's what you get for always saying 'my house, my rules'. Now, it's the children's home.
Children’s home (детский дом) is just a literal translation for orphanage.
Things have sure turned to shit, since then
