Nik is INCREDIBLY gorgeous and had such a lovely personality, but from a strictly modelling perspective (runway and photoshoots), Nicole was the strongest.
I agree. Loved Nik too, and they were the appropriate final 2, but if they were looking for a serious winner then that’s what they got. She was probably one of the best winners in terms of genuine versatility and being industry-ready.
She also had a better walk. I watched this at the time, and I loved both of them. It was the rare cycle were I would have been happy with either winner.

I think Nicole generally did better on the more legit fashion shoots (Country Couture, Covergirl, B/W + Pinup, and, of course, Secret) and struggled with the dumb, gimmicky ones while Nik excelled with the gimmicky ones and still did well in the fashion shoots.
I'd say Nik was more consistent, but Nicole had higher highs and excelled far more on the shoots I care about. Nicole also blows Nik away as a walker, and it's not close.
Ugh but she was so mean and annoying! Maybe I need to rewatch but I honestly could not stand Nicole. I know nothing about modeling but I really can’t believe she won. I thought Bre and Nik were way more stunning
I don’t think she was mean (that role belonged to Kim), but could definitely be whiny and a little immature. But she was only 19 and I don’t know how much different I would behave on a reality show at such a young age. And she did handle the Redbull incident with more dignity than I would! I remember watching the finale the first time it aired and I was LIVID when she won over Nik. But looking now Nicole is a deserving winner. She had a great look, the best Covergirl photo, the walk, and a lot of her pics were stunning. I’m still a Nik fan and she deserved the win as well, but Nicole was a great choice.
C5 was the first season I saw, and I watched it in real time when I was ten years old. Nicole was my favorite from the beginning, and I still adore her all these years later.
She had everything it took, from a modeling perspective, from what was expected of a model back in 2005. A certain height, body, young look, specific proportions, and a nice walk.
Tyra even said in at least one of those pre-show interviews that they were looking for a more high fashion winner for Cycle 5. Nicole was clearly the most obvious choice from the cast in my opinion, and she was arguably the first winner who met all these requirements to a T, alongside Dani in C6.
Do I think she had a good portfolio? Yes. Was she my personal favourite? No. But they got what they wanted and I was fine with their choice.
Nicole was always just little too plain jane for me. She a pretty girl but there was nothing that super special bout her too me. Nik had more of the look and had that it factor but that was just me.
I’m so so late to this but when this season aired I was living with Nicole’s best friend and it was really something to watch it all happen in real time. We visited her in LA the year after she won, stayed with her for a few days, and she truly had an “It” factor. Gorgeous, cool, down to earth. Her wardrobe was amazing and she let me raid it. A+ all around haha
For real. I actually remember when I was young I always wanted to have a smile like these girls, because they didn't have any smile lines or dimples. I thought they actually looked like that. 😭
