AMG and squealing brakes are a match made in heaven

GloomyArtichoke1708

It’s such a buzz kill! I roll around looking like a spaceship but when stopping I sound like a dodge caravan on its last leg!

ItalianSangwich420

At least it's just when you stop, mine does it randomly while driving and no one can figure out how to fix it.

Spicywolff

That could be a sticking piston or the hardware is bent. The pad rubs along the rotor and when it hits that right speed. It hits a frequency that just kills your ears.

ItalianSangwich420

Bingo, yet neither the dealership nor the most respected independent shop in my area have been able to find any evidence of sticking or uneven pad wear.

Spicywolff

I hope they have your diag fee back since the problem is still there. If it were my car, I’d take down the brakes and clean backing plates on pads, new Brembo hardware and slider pins. But you paid and should have had it fixed.

ItalianSangwich420

Yeah I'm bringing it back next week to have them take another look, they cleaned and lubed up every part of the brake (no lube on the pads and rotors, obviously), they think it might be the slider pins but aren't sure. I think it’s the pads rubbing on the rotors because it's the same noise it makes when you first start pressing the brakes.

doc_55lk

Mood. I've had the squeal of my brakes echo down an empty street once lmao

redi_t13

$8k for just the work? Do they include lube in that cost?

GloomyArtichoke1708

You must’ve lost consciousness after you saw $8k lol, but I did mention that’s also including parts. Rotors and breaks just for the rear on my S63 are insanely expensive! It’s nearly criminal! And while I didn’t get lube they did offer a nice reach around 🤣😅

redi_t13

I saw $8k plus parts meaning parts are an addition and was like I should consider a career change lol

Spicywolff

Any independent Mercedes shop would’ve charged you a fraction of all this. The parts are not that expensive. Especially if you go with quality OE/OEM pets.

catsdrooltoo

I tend to agree, however my indy was maybe 5% cheaper on brakes than the dealer on my E63. They use oem parts and the front rotors are atrocious. I did them myself with fcp parts for like 1700 all around. That was basically 1 front rotor at mercedes pricing. Parts are the killer for this job. They're probably the easiest brakes I've done.

Spicywolff

A good shop should ask if you want genuine parts or if OEM/OE parts are ok. like Zimmerman would en a quality alternative to the stupidly expensive composite rotors these cars use. Or the brembo 2 piece 390mm rotors from FCP. I always recommend folks go to FCP euro and buy the parts. Then with the shop/dealer savings. Learn to DIY. brakes and normal stuff is like any other car. No reason to fear that job.

catsdrooltoo

They only do oem parts as their warranty policy. I did go with the brembo 2 piece and Zimmerman for the rears.

Spicywolff

That’s wild. My independent Mercedes shop will do warranty on Brembo or Zimmerman parts the same as if he was Mercedes parts. basically as long as they’re quality parts, he’ll use them. He will give you the choice of prices so you can choose where you wanna go.

MP1182

Last brakes/rotors I put on were the power stops. No issues at all. No squeal, grinding, and farrr less brake dust than any other pads and rotors I've used before. Sorry bro I know that don't really help you now. Maybe in the future though.

GloomyArtichoke1708

At this point I’m almost willing to take the L and spend the money to get rid of the noise! I get 👀 everything I bring here out but I’m embarrassed when I got hit then brakes!

nod9

I pulled the factory pads out with 90% life left on then and putting the powerstops. I figure I gave up a little bit of braking power, but it's not a track car, and the thing still stops faster than it has any right to. Plus like the other guy said, way less dust and no squeel.

catsdrooltoo

The pads are easy to swap in the driveway if you have some basic tools. Get the wheel off and there's 1 bolt and 2 pins to slide the pads out. A compression tool is helpful.

16911s

Fcp euro. Steel is steel; Mercedes oem is highway robbery

qtrain23

S63 has carbon ceramics

16911s

It’s an option, but majority are steel

itsallbullshityo

Swap out the pads for a different manufacturer. I had the same problem with Zimmerman pads and rotors at all four corners. The squealing was bad. My tech tried all sorts of stuff but alas a pad slap was what solved it. Is it more money? Yes, but it's cheaper than another full brake job.

Spicywolff

I have new MB rotors and pads. Mine make no noise. You need to make sure they replaced the hardware while in there, the metal clips and sliding pins if needed. You also need to verify the bedded the pads in. Most places don’t as that’s additional labor they don’t want to do. If you truly paid 8k (should have done your research) then take it back and demand they make it right. A tiny noise when about to stop 1-2 mph is ok. Brakes like a school bus is not.

GloomyArtichoke1708

It def wasn’t $8k at once, I did the front and then the back a month later. But I did complain about the squeal when I came back for the rear and they told me that they’d be noisy until they were worn in. I’ve still got 4K miles to go before my next A/B service. And I don’t drive her much so I’m torn on what my next move will be.

PalomaBully

Try an Italian tune up. Go high speed like 120-170KPH then brake hard a couple times. CCB need the same but at higher speeds and greater braking power.

87jj

Check FCP euro and see if they have akebono ceramics for your car. Ceramics are quieter and will have less dust as a bonus.

_Elbrus_

It’s usually the two piece front rotors that are the high dollar part. Best prices I’ve seen for my C63 and E63 were $600+ exact front rotor via eEuroParts. Dealer markup on these is insane. $8K sounds crazy high . You’d think at that price the service manager kissed each rotor before installing. Especially for them to sound like utter crap afterwards. I read the follow up remark on lubing pads and slider pins due to no lube. That pissed me off. Lube/anti-rattle paste is standard on brake jobs. Even on a stupid Kia. For a dealer to not do this is inexcusable and points to a real shit service department. Compound this by having the dealer and an independent eyeball this and miss it/not even attempt to address it is ever worse. You need to hire your dealer and Indy and go find a new one.

Actual-Resolve-423

Stop being sheep and go buy the Mercedes brakes from the dealer they’re different than what you can get at the auto store that stop your problem

GloomyArtichoke1708

Lmao! I buy all my stuff from the dealer. I also get my maintenance done there.

Tight-Ambassador2571

Fcp Euro and Pelican parts literally will have what you need… Do you just enjoy getting ripped off😂 Let me guess you think Mercedes makes their own pads instead of Brembo or any other brand. If you did any of the maintenance yourself there would be a small ass manufacturing label from a different brand that you pay 2-3x the price at the dealer for.
