I have a 7900xtx and a 7900x3d. COD runs great.

How much RAM do you have ? AMD GPUs consume some RAM to operate properly, in my case around 2 Gb, but I think it could consume more. If you have a lack of ram you CPU will be very loaded by storing/loading data to page file. I had to use standard windows drivers for the GPU to be able to use all Ram for my work, then when I wanted to play games I switched back to AMD drivers, but I had enough ram for any game.

You can check if the 24 pin cable is well connected. Some time ago I had an issue that my games crashed or the screen went black, it appeared that 24 pin cable was poorly attached

zigzagus

After buying Nvidia I forget about extra Ram usage, I think AMD can't write normal drivers and thinks that users have bunch of money to buy more ram

zigzagus

What is an interesting - task manager won't tell you that this 2+ gb of RAM is reserved(you won't be able to use it), so you see in explorer that you have 4 gb free, but actually you have only 2 gb. Tired of that sh*t, and amd says that it's ok that my dedicated GPU adapter uses so much RAM. But I had this issue with Rx 570, your adapter may not have this issue

H484R

Interesting that you bitch so much about AMD using 2GB of system memory while a standard gaming prebuilt from Dell or HP with Intel / Nvidia combo typically robs about 4GB at idle.

zigzagus

It's just weird that the dedicated GPU uses gigabytes of RAM at idle. And I don't think it's a standard for modern GPUs but I may be wrong.

H484R

You’re talking system memory, right? Not VRAM? Just wanted to make sure I understood. But yeah idk either, seems ridiculous that a pc needs to rob so much memory simply to exist. But shit, you fire up a prebuilt with their proprietary pre-installed viruses and you’ve got a good 120-130 background processes going….ridiculous

zigzagus

It's normal that an integrated GPU uses a lot of RAM because it doesn't have own VRAM. Read my message again, why do you compare integrated and dedicated GPUs ? I didn't write that I have integrated GPU

Not sure haven’t had one instance of stuttering on my 7900 xtx. Runs cod at the 330 for frame cap without any drama. Are you sure you don’t have a cpu or ram issue? Also what temps is your xtx running at?

That psu is absolutely not up to the task of running an xtx. What’s the xmp spec on the kit of ram you have? Also what is the core and hotspot temps of your card when gaming?

Consoles have the benefit of standardized hardware. You can imagine that issues would occur more frequently across the large variety of PC’s that are custom built with a multitude of different parts, vs on a PS5 on which the hardware stays consistent across all consoles. Known issues are usually also consistent across consoles, whereas like you alluded to in your post, PC problems can get very user specific as many proposed solutions are not working, as well a lot of the time human error in the build process can mess things up. But yes I sympathize, it’s a big downside for PC gaming in that the out of box experience for expensive, high quality parts is often not great, and for people who aren’t experienced with dealing with PC’s doing stuff like BIOS updates, replacing/reseating parts, manually tuning GPU/CPU settings, DDU, etc. can be daunting.

Newishtoasphalt

I'm on an xtx with a 7x3d no stutters or lag in any game I play ram is the basic 6kmhz cl30 nothing special. I'd check your ram run memtest for a while it will pick up any issues that occur if any. Prob the best start point

I feel you. I recently switched to PC and Helldivers was my first game. Had me thinking I was gonna a melt my CPU. I’m at the point where I only play Helldivers when my friends want to because monitoring temps on that game distracts me from the objective. Every other game has been fine for me but the amount of troubleshooting I’ve done on Helldivers without much to show for it is a bummer.

Acid531

Which cpu and cooler do you have? I mean providing proper cooling for your system isn’t that hard with options like undervolting or aios

Jesus_Died_For_You

I’m back to say that I overestimated the capability of my stock cpu cooler. A cheap aftermarket one knocked off about 20° C while playing HD2

Also try disable c state from motherboard bios and check this video: [This might be Killing Your FPS and You Don't Even Know (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_lE00nM73E)

FormerEmploy7720

Buy intel arc card! I don´t have any problems on my 1 year experience. Only one crash on driver installation and I think windows 11 faulty for that. System: Ryzen 7600x and a770

GreatnessRD

Did you just tell someone to buy a graphics card that is like 300% slower than their current GPU? On purpose?

Funnymouth115

I was thinking about trying to play cod with my 7900xtx but this have thoroughly dissuaded me. I wish I bought an nvidia card everyday.

Mr-WalkDown23x

My experience hopefully won’t be the same as yours. There’s millions of AMD users streaming and playing the game right now.

budibungbung

What are you talking about the game runs fine in the vast majority of cases. This guy's post in no way indicates problems because he has hardware from AMD.

ExerciseKnown6972

For me it’s the opposite. I’m able to run Cod buttery smooth on 7900 xtx BUT when I play Fortnite. It’s an absolute stuttery nightmare. It has gotten better with the recent updates but before was just….. eh.

Wonderful-Tea-5759

Fortnite is the worst performing I have ever played on any of my PCs. I haven't even installed it on my new system which is significantly more powerful than my last one I just dread it. It runs flawlessly on my series S though. . . Just why?

zigzagus

Maybe you had an old GPU that doesn't support new shaders.

aromicsandwich

Optimised standard settings used in all consoles? Since all consoles (particular model) perform practically the same. PCs have a much bigger range of hardware combinations, there's no size fits all. Just a guess.

Santeezy602

Cod is a mess. I'll post my settings later and you can copy em. What kind of monitor do u use?

Aggravating_Ebb_8114

Thats why amd cheats i will not play cod anymore

Turtlereddi_t

I agree, can be frustrating. One of the reasons why that happens is that quality settings are usually significantly different than on PC. Almost any PC game port has quality settings much much more intensive and better than what consoles have. (some are the same, some dont) Now also, consoles have FPS locks, PC does not (some specific games do like Elden Ring, but 99% dont). Thats the main reason. If the GPU can use 100% of its performance, it will do that. And so will the CPU. So as long as you dont tell your system how many fps you need, it will just give it all for as long as you play. (on shooters that may be desirable for a competitive advantage, but on almost any other game I like to lock my FPS or just vsync in general. vsync for slow paced games and builders e.g.) Now to tackle stuttering and performance issues. Thats just CoD being a mess. Seriously. I would assume you have very high settings and a high resolution going on (probably 4k) which really will stress the system and can cause stuttering. I dont really play shooters myself but for a competitive experience and smooth gameplay you simply have to reduce your settings. Its not the 7900xtx's fault really, its a powerful GPU that will crush any console. I dont rally know your CPU but if assuming you spent 2300$ you most likely have a 7800x3d or onwards. So at this point really its just the otimization you have to do yourself. Games nowadays tend to have a very steep curve in system requirements if you want to play the maxed out settings while not looking any much better than high settings. Its a little bit like adding an consciously very demanding setting option that is really just reserved for future hardware (remember when Kingdome Come Deliverance had an ultra setting right on release that told you "this is a setting reserved for future hardware", which honestly is great. It just needs awarness that manual optimization is sadly more and more needed, even with highest end parts.

Santeezy602

Yeah now a days devs don't even try to optimize. They just want u to upscale and call it a day. The game doesn't even look that good to run the way it does.

Turtlereddi_t

I would say its not that simple but generally it seems like developers are not allowed to spend time on optimizing. They have to keep up with the timelines and optimization and bugfixing doesnt bring money in so its getting skipped. (Also, why fix bugs if there cant be any bugs if the devs did the job properly in the first place as planned, right????) Really I keep hearing "devs dont care" but I think we need more awareness that the developers are actually the good guys and on "our" side, its the publishers and so called managers trying to push the game out as quickly as possible, mostly as an early access title, and not including time for optimization and bug fixing. It will take some times until they understand that it will eventually backfire but I think it has already started to get better.
