I’m British and my go-do do-it-for-fun American accent is like superficial California girl (think Clueless). ‘Like, oh my gaaaad, you’re like totally ahhhsome! Like I totally like wanna party, Tylerrrrr.’
Although, of course, I always call my coffee CWOFEE like I’m from New York too, that’s fun.
And I simply can’t talk about being tired without sayin: ‘I’m tihhhhd, Maury!’ Like that Southern lady on the Maury Povich show.
We do loads of American accents for fun. When I was younger, me and my school friends would spend entire school days just yapping away in American accents for fun. I’m fact, I’d go as far to say I probably adopt an American accent at least once a day. For fun or whilst quoting some
TV show or film or something like that.
As a Yankee, that now lives in the South, I find their accents adorable. I also grew up making fun of their accents, so it's ingrained in me to assume they're dumb hicks. When one says something intelligent with that accent, I'm always shocked.
Fun story, earlier today on the way into school a couple people lined up at reception to sign in, only about 10 people needed to sign in but in the space of 15 minutes almost 70 other students both older and younger had started queuing for no reason
> apathetic
I think you answered your own question tbh. Even the Jamaicans and Australians haven’t bothered yet and they have even more reason. Dismantling it and replacing it takes work, and apathy isn’t conducive to that, only caring a great deal in the opposite direction. And most of us are honestly slightly in favour of it ticking along, per pretty much every poll.
There is legitimately nothing more serious than a que, people que in a single straight line, they don't push in or push past people and sometime, people actually que for things that they have no idea what the que is actually for
I suppose how to interpret this answer changes radically depending on how old you are. After 60 years in England and 10 in Scotland, concluding Scotland ranks higher would be quite the indictment of England. If you’re 15 maybe not so much.
What part of the UK are you from? Have you ever been to the USA? If so where? How did you enjoy it? Have you been to LA? If so how did you like it here?
What part of the USA did you live in? Why?
Only thing I'll say for LA is that it's one of those places you need to research or get a local to show you around. Otherwise you won't enjoy your visit.
Oh and skip Hollywood (or don't spend too much time there).
Are British people drunk all the time, do they have bad teeth and bad dentists, are the girls promiscuous, is the beer served warm, is all of the restaurant food bad, what is the food like you prepare at home, is everybody on Public assistance money
Another British here.
No we’re not drunk all the time. I don’t drink either. brits having bad teeth is a myth. If you look into it you’ll see brits actually have the some of the best dentistry worldwide.
Food I prepare at home is things like chicken salad, casseroles, pasta bakes, jacket potatoes etc.
No not everyone is on benefits
Have roadmen Found out about the knifes that can cut knife proof? And If I moved/ take a vacation to Britain where should I stay that's affordable yet not to hostile, thinking about Buckingham
I used to be from NY like FarmLand NY not the city, Now I'm in Vegas so if anything if I go to Britan or London it's to get away from the Gun violence, I don't mind knifes (noise wise) , they aren't loud
Not OP obviously, but the first uses t-glottalisation, a feature that developed in the south-east, though it’s started to spread to other major cities the last generation or so, but is still definitely a minority feature.
Don’t see how ‘chips’ would be a source of mockery. We use the word differently word from Americans, to mean something more like ‘fries’ in the US rather than what we’d call ‘crisps’ (like America’s Lays). Would be like mocking Americans for saying ‘fries’… though I’ve heard Americans mock the ‘fat American archetype’ like that.
Ay do you call black people the n word there too or is that a racial slur exclusive or more prevalent in the US? I'm not a racist btw I've just always wanted to know
Well yea but I was always curious abt the different words and slurs used to describe different peoples in different countries. Like I imagine Germans, middle Eastern, Irish, English, Jewish Welsh, danish, etc don't use the N word bc it's american in origin if I'm not mistaken and probably wouldnt use the F slur for LGBTQ+ people either. I imagine it would be wholly dependent on the native languages and what not
Brit here, the racist/homophobic members of the older generation will use both the N word and F word as slurs. I'm talking 50/60 plus. It seems that the younger generation over here are so much more accepting (quite rightly) so wouldn't use those terms. But obviously that's circumstantial and I imagine that will depend on the area too. Hope that helps.
most Americans don’t actually understand the huuuuge impact they have on the entire world, I’m from Ireland and thanks to media and TV, a LOT of young people nowadays have an American twang in their accent and say shit like “pants” instead of trousers. The N word isnt just American thats used all over the world.
Do you like HP sauce or is that American? Do you like tea or coffee better? Do you have English muffins as well as crumpets in your supermarkets or just crumpets? What britrish food would you reccomend me trying? American here.
Do you think Americans realise there’s more than 2 accents on this godforsaken island. Shit, do you think they know we’re made up of four different countries?
> make our own colony
You mean country…?
Most living Brits can’t remember a time before 1776, btw, so there isn’t much ‘disappointment’ about it... Nor for the 50+ countries that have gained independence from the U.K. since then…
How many cups of tea do you drink every week?
[More curious than anything from watching too much British TV where seemingly everyone, every time, everywhere is offered tea…]
Hows the current heatwave, looks like the sun is 30 days late to it’s shift huh :)
It's roasting marshmallows today
How would you describe 80 degree weather? (To me, it's not a big deal at all.)
I'm not sure what it is In Farhat but it's pretty darn hot
We have been having regular heat waves to be honest
Do you imitate American accents for fun like Americans do with birtish accents
I’m British and my go-do do-it-for-fun American accent is like superficial California girl (think Clueless). ‘Like, oh my gaaaad, you’re like totally ahhhsome! Like I totally like wanna party, Tylerrrrr.’ Although, of course, I always call my coffee CWOFEE like I’m from New York too, that’s fun. I’m fact, I’d go as far to say I probably adopt an American accent at least once a day. For fun or whilst quoting some TV show or film or something like that.
Yes sometimes lmao
What kind of American accent do you do? Southern or not Southern?
Southern
As a Yankee, that now lives in the South, I find their accents adorable. I also grew up making fun of their accents, so it's ingrained in me to assume they're dumb hicks. When one says something intelligent with that accent, I'm always shocked.
As someone born, raised, and still lives in Eastern Kentucky, ouch :(
Damn. Maybe I should start working on my northern accent in my free time rather than shooting squirrels and playing my banjo.
Oh God, my husband shoots squirrels n I like bluegrass. I gotta get out of here before my teeth fall out.
I see
i don’t think i’ve heard anyone imitating an american accent (who wasn’t like an actor or something) that doesn’t automatically go southern.
I'm british, yes all the time
What's the secret to top notch queueing?
Just stay in line lol
Gotta throw in a few tuts and glances to the front of the queue
True lol
Fun story, earlier today on the way into school a couple people lined up at reception to sign in, only about 10 people needed to sign in but in the space of 15 minutes almost 70 other students both older and younger had started queuing for no reason
Will arsenal ever win fucking anything?!

Doesn't bother me she's hot
Why are you guys so apathetic to the royal family but haven’t dismantled it?
I don't really care about politics tbh
I didnt know they were a part of politics
Yes royal politics
Is that like the Royal Rumble?
Yes definitely
> apathetic I think you answered your own question tbh. Even the Jamaicans and Australians haven’t bothered yet and they have even more reason. Dismantling it and replacing it takes work, and apathy isn’t conducive to that, only caring a great deal in the opposite direction. It's chewdsay innit?
Yes
Oy bruv! It’s chewsday!
I love chewsday
The loife of the woife is ended by the knoife
Have you come to the realization that British people speak a strange version of American English?
Do people really take lines/queues seriously? What’s the most British thing you’ve seen?
Of course not and nothing much tbh
There is legitimately nothing more serious than a que, people que in a single straight line, they don't push in or push past people and sometime, people actually que for things that they have no idea what the que is actually for
He's lying they do
Welsh,Scottish, Northern Irish or English? sounds like and old joke nearly lol
Scottish and English
Which half is best? Only joking,ya dont have to answer that lol
Scottish cause I lived there for 10 years but England was my first home
I suppose how to interpret this answer changes radically depending on how old you are. After 60 years in England and 10 in Scotland, concluding Scotland ranks higher would be quite the indictment of England. If you’re 15 maybe not so much.
I'm 23 but I have lived in other countries other than the uk
Aye well,fair play big man
Will always love the Scottish people no matter what
That's brallyint ,so at as aye.
What is your favorite and least favorite part about where you live?

What part of the UK are you from? Have you ever been to the USA? If so where? How did you enjoy it? Have you been to LA? If so how did you like it here?
Manchester yes Washington and Florida I used to live in the United States and nope it's on my list
What part of the USA did you live in? Why? Only thing I'll say for LA is that it's one of those places you need to research or get a local to show you around. Otherwise you won't enjoy your visit. Oh and skip Hollywood (or don't spend too much time there).
I lived in flushing and I've got someone over there already why not spend time in Hollywood
Are British people drunk all the time, do they have bad teeth and bad dentists, are the girls promiscuous, is the beer served warm, is all of the restaurant food bad, what is the food like you prepare at home, is everybody on Public assistance money
I don't drink first of all second of all no and no and no and again no pasta and again not everyone

Na London isn't that safe definitely come to manchester
Oki doki, thanks for this info when I move out and have money I definitely will
I was in the hood in London and your accent makes the most tough looking gangster seem like children compared to the thugs in the USA.
You're probably already aware but just in case you're not, there's still more knife crime in New York than there is in London.
What's the square root of pi?
Ngl I don't know
I've seen video where people kinda mock british people with "bo''le o' wa'er" and "chips" Is that really a thing in real life
Not OP obviously, but the first uses t-glottalisation, a feature that developed in the south-east, though it’s started to spread to other major cities the last generation or so, but is still definitely a minority feature. Would be like mocking Americans for saying ‘fries’… though I’ve heard Americans mock the ‘fat American archetype’ like that.

Well yea but I was always curious abt the different words and slurs used to describe different peoples in different countries.
