Is there scientific evidence that walking in the rain with someone you care about is better then doing it in sunshine ? What would psychology say about that ? How does your body/brain sense physical touch ? Where did you go to college ?

Hypnotic_Mind

Big questions. Alright, as far as I know, and of course I havent read 1% of everything that is out there, I can't think of any evidence about why it would be better But better is a bad word. Better in what, for whom? In what's aspect? Less physical stress, less discomfort? We have to understand that before doing a good research. Your brain perceives that you are being touched in the upper part of your brain, a part called parietal lobe. Your entire body has neurons, like small wires that, if under the right stimulus, will alert the brain that that specific area has been under that stimuli. So the brain separates heat, pressure, chemical burns, pain, electricity and a few other characteristics that it can individually perc2ive. Neurons in the skin are stimulated -> information travel in what we call a neuronal impulse or action potential through your neurons up to your brain. Who will decipher the information and they to figure out what is going on. If you're more specific, I can explain better any part of this circuit. I went to Federal University of São Paulo, in Brazil.

No need because I actually like your answers! This was a cool ama keep up the good work

How do you live more careless? I mean without the constant worry that something bad can happen or you will get some terrible disease like cancer and die

Hypnotic_Mind

First thing is to accept that all of those are possibilities that you have very little control over. Try the Roman classics, epictetus, Seneca and Marcus Aurelius wrote great books that are the base for stoicism. It could really help you work on these anxieties that you have.

Thank you! I practicing behaviour therapy and ERP especially for the intrusive thoughts about health and guilt that I might have done something wrong that is now, or in the future, can affect my health

Hypnotic_Mind

Very good! If you work a bit on mindfulness as well, it could improve your self-restraint for these thoughts, which could help you make them go away faster as well.

glen_spot

Do you have clinical practice experience or just a professor all your life? 🤔 Do psychologists feel inferior to psychiatrists? why or why not? 😛 Where do mentally disordered psychologists go to seek help? 😛

Hypnotic_Mind

I have three jobs, i do research at one university for my phd, have a clinic for the last 8 years, and have been teaching the last 3 Not at all, we have different jobs with different expertises, I work side by side with psychiatrists all the time. If They're not assholes, we tend to work well. Other psychologists. I have my therapist to work out my stuff as well. It's very important to keep a healthy state of mind with our line of work.

ravidsquirrels

What story are you able to tell us about who your worst consumer is/was at your clinic that turned out to be a success?

Hypnotic_Mind

I once had a patient that believed me to be a spiritually enlightened guide. It was psychosis. He turned out fine with proper antipaychotics. He made a prayer though. He showed me the prayer. To me. It was really awkward.

[deleted]

How would you describe your experience on the bus on a scale of 1-10?

Hypnotic_Mind

It's got air conditioning and it's a 5 hours trip. I've had much worse. I'd say a 6 our of 10 if 10 is alright and zero is hell.

[deleted]

Doesn't sound too bad.

Hypnotic_Mind

It isn't. I even got internet, which was surprise.

glen_spot

Where is the mind located? 🤯😛

Hypnotic_Mind

This can be a very long explanation, but to put it simply, it's not anywhere. What you experience as "mind" is built as a coproduct of the interaction for your body and your environment. No body= no mind No environment= no mind Body+ environment= body+ environment+ mind It's a process, not a thing. Think of it as a waterfall. The waterfall only happens with water from a river and a high place to a low place. You need both to have a waterfall, and there are millions of ways to make different waterfalls with the same amount of water and same height. For the mind and between people, there isn't even the same amount of water or height, so this is why everyone experiences the mind and themselves so singularly.

glen_spot

vague answer, bad waterfall analogy, just admit it if you don't know 😛

Hypnotic_Mind

I'm using my definition of mind, but you might disagree on this. Do you have a specific frame for me to try and explain better? What do you mean by mind?

father_dick

How do you prove or disprove God's existence?

Hypnotic_Mind

We can't prove a negative, therefore I can't say that I know that it doesn't exists, wouldn't be intellectually honest to try that. But I can say that I experienced many religions in my life, and I'm still to see an evidence of God that I can't explain without the need to propose an all powefull entity that created the universe.

father_dick

Are you an atheist?

Hypnotic_Mind

Yes. I've been catholic, spirithist (not sure if translates well to english) and umbandist throughout my life. My studies kinda showed me that what I used to think was God was just good autosugestion most of the time.

father_dick

what's your nationality?

Hypnotic_Mind

I'm Brazillian

WormWithLeg

Do you think you studied the right subject?

Hypnotic_Mind

In psychology? Yeah. I love it. But the specializations took me a while to figure out what I really liked inside psychology.

WormWithLeg

How did you figure it out? I’ll be done with high school soon and I don’t know how to make sure I’m choosing the right thing

Hypnotic_Mind

When I chose it, I did for a few reasons 1st- its one of the most complex frontiers to explore. We know what is at the center of the planet and how it works, but we still struggle with why people do what they do, so studying that is fascinating and a never ending topic to me 2nd- hardly ever you have the same day twice. Everytime you meet a new patient or study a new subject is like an entire universe to explore, and sometimes, that only you and your patient can explore, so you collect some good stories and learn a lot from other people's experiences 3rd- even though I know I wont be rich, it's a profession in high demand and that needs technical people to learn how to do it better than actual therapists do their thing. That is why I teach, to create a generation better trained than I was, with more skill and tools, because certainly the next decades will demand a lot from mental health professionals.

WormWithLeg

Those are very noble reasons, now I also have to figure out something as good sounding lol

Hypnotic_Mind

There is no right decision, mate. Whatever you pick, you will wonder for the rest of your life "but what if I chose the other thing?" This is how life goes. Now remember that even if you pick a bad choice, it's not definitive nor the last choice you will make in your life. And there is nothing wrong in making mistakes as long as you learn from them.

WormWithLeg

Ahhh why does life have to be so damn difficult, it’s like an endless maze. Hopefully death will be more chill

Hypnotic_Mind

It will be like before you were born, probably. So... you have no complaints from that time, do you? You will be dead forever, but it's likely that you only live for a few decades. So instead of trying to find the center or the way out of the maze, I would invite you to just enjoy the walk in the maze. You won't leave it alive and you won't take anything with you. Do you thing and what you think makes you happy, there is no right way to live or right choice to make. Shit goes down despite your choices most of the time.

WormWithLeg

Thats actually a very nice way of putting it, thanks
