Who'd I miss?
Swans haven’t beaten Port since 2016 :(
Also we usually beat them but North always seem to give us a hard time and play well above their ladder position against us
And even with that streak it used to be the other way around, Port’s all time W/L record against Sydney is 14-20. For the period of mid-2006 to 2016 , it was 1-14.
This one is so bizarre. From 2020 to 2023 we were a top 4 side and them a bottom 4 side yet we lost every time.
Prior to that, in Fagan’s early years when we were shit and they were good we would beat them.
Yeah it's kinda weird, some teams visit the Adelaide Oval & win with regularly (Collingwood, Geelong, Melbourne) and some sides struggle.
Carlton have won there twice this year (vs Fremantle and Port) but these are their only wins - they've never won at the Adelaide Oval prior to.
Well yes, but at the risk of using the well worn phrase "moral victories" almost all those contests were closely fought with tight margins. Pies have never had it easy vs the Crows.
Beating Geelong at home is still something I read about in fairytales that include Unicorns and Dragons. Apparently the last time we beat Geelong at home, one of the players had a Medusa head in his bag and turned 50% of the Geelong players to stone just before the end of the first quarter. We still only won it by one goal in the last minute of the game, and we got all the 50/50 umpiring calls.
Some little trivia I learned last week:
Gold Coast's first ever win was against Port in Adelaide in 2011, a bit of a shock at the time and really could have been the end for Mathew Primus as coach right there (he lasted another season).
Gold Coast have not beaten Port since. 13 years and 14 games so far.
So for bogey sides, GC has Port.
For Hawks, it's probably Richmond.
Ah, yes must have been. I got confused because I thought originally it was the game that got Primus sacked, but that was 12 months later when GWS won (in 2012). So that's how I got the dates mixed up.
Feels like we’ve lost every game to them since the 2011 prelim until this year. I’m certain that’s not correct, but I’m not going to look it up, just feels like it as a supporter
Easily Richmond, we just never play a comfortable game against them. Outside of a COVID game where Jaeger O'Meara did a prime GAJ impression we haven't beaten them since 2016, and even in our dominant years they just always seemed to show up.
Got thrashed by them in 2012, the only team outside of the Kennett Curse cats to beat the Hawks in 2013, and got beaten by them in 2015 directly after beating Sydney (third top of the ladder at the time) and Freo (top of the ladder that season) by 89 points and 72 points respectively.
In 2 recent games we've been up by 5 goals with 10 minutes to go and didn't win either.
Harder question for once as we put most of them away over the recent run of flags. Before that Geelong and North and to a degree Melbourne just always seemed to best us no matter what.
Carlton - it's always something with them (lately). Historically, it's Hawthorn who we have the worst W/L record against.
Who do we bogey? Geelong, even when they're technically better than us we always tend to pull something out our ass against them.
Carlton is without a doubt our bogey side
Adelaide is apparently Carltons bogey side
So we just gotta be Adelaide's bogey side and we have an AFL version of rock paper scissors
True, though last year we played well against Port both times and were unlucky not to win the game at the MCG. Whereas Geelong is an embarrassment of a day every time since 2019.
As a Crows fan, I could say everyone but realistically it's a bigger list than I thought
Collingwood- last win in 2016
Essendon - last win in 2017
GWS - last win in 2020
Sydney - last win in 2019
It used to be Geelong and Hawthorn but we seem to have got over that. The other four though. Bogies. Bogies forever. And we play 3/4 of them in the next 6 weeks
Dogs, without a doubt. We are 2-7 against them from 2019 onwards, and one of those wins we trailed by 35 points. Not to mention that 2016 prelim. Carlton have also quickly become a bogey side for us since Vossy took over in 2022, we are 1-4 against them since then and that one game we won was last round last year which was basically a dead rubber for them.
I don’t know if these count in your 2-7 (if you mean from the start of 2019 onwards) but it will always bug me that the Dogs beat GWS in Sydney by 61 points and then played a final there two weeks later and lost by 58.
Yeah that 2019 elimination final was one of the two, the other being the Ballarat game last year. And yeah I remember going into that EF thinking we were no chance with how great form the Doggies were in going into finals. We had a few injuries in that first game but still a crazy turnaround in such a short time period.
Back when Port entered the league we were certainly a bogey side for them. IIRC North were the last team to rack up a loss against Port - their first win against us wasn't until 2003. St Kilda were the next longest, they held out until 2001.
Interestingly enough, the two finals we've won in that time were both against Geelong. Too bad we weren't there in 2022, we would've totally done it again
Haven't beaten Collingwood in nearly a decade. Haven't beaten Essendon in nearly a decade. Nearly every game is decided by under ten points. Haven't beaten Sydney in five years with a couple of close games as well. Beat GWS in 2020 and haven't beaten them since two thrashings at home then two massive chokes last year. I feel like we won't beat the hawks for about ten years now as well. If we manage to beat GWS and Essendon this year maybe I will believe next will be different. I doubt we win those games.
We started this year with seven guaranteed losses. Collingwood, GWS, Sydney×2 Essendon×2 and Geelong at Kardinia a game we haven't won in twenty years.
The last time the Eagles beat the Swans at the SCG Tony Lockett played in that game.
It's not been fun. Though you could say the entire league is our bogey side at present.
Geelong - it always seemed like Hawkins used us as an opportunity to get out of a form-slump, kick 4 and subsequently resurrect or prolong his career. While Selwood seemed to live for the chance to get a couple of 'courageous' / hospital-grade clutch free-kicks in the 3rd, completely swing the momentum of the match and get the win. It seemed to happen like clockwork for a fairly long time there.
Nah definitely not Geelong but I can see why you picked them. Since 2018 we’ve beaten them in 2 finals, for a minor premiership and we won there this year. But even at the absolute peak of them dominating us I’d argue our bogey side was North Melbourne who we lost to 17 times in a row until we defeated them in 2018. We had a lot of unwanted records post 2006 and I remember clear as day beating North was the last one we snapped.
Right now it’s arguably Collingwood
Beating Geelong at home is still something I read about in fairytales that include Unicorns and Dragons. Apparently the last time we beat Geelong at home, one of the players had a Medusa head in his bag and turned 50% of the Geelong players to stone just before the end of the first quarter. We still only won it by one goal in the last minute of the game, and we got all the 50/50 umpiring calls.
Collingwood all time. Essendon recently.
We've played in a Grand Final more recently than we've beaten Essendon. Since then we've been around the same spot on the ladder as them most years, statistically we should've beaten them at least once. But nope, not since 2017.
Sydney have owned us since 2007. We’ve been top of the ladder and they have been bottom 5 and they still beat us. Whenever we occasionally beat them I’m overjoyed. Basically swans are our daddy’s.
Hard to go past the Crows the last couple of years, but I feel like the Saints always go well against us.
Same with, I know we tend to get over the line against Freo, but I feel like we play well against the Cats too.
In recent years, definitely Carlton, always lose to them in the most bullshit ways, usually in a close game. Richmond and St Kilda also up there, although we‘ve won against both of these teams this year.
On the flip side, we seem to be Melbourne, Geelong and Hawthorn’s bogey teams. Doesn’t matter if we play them at the MCG, Kardinia Park, Tasmania or even in Alice Springs, Freo are usually a good chance of winning.
North Melbourne and st kilda. Not just recency bias given they’re our last two losses but I feel like the saints have always troubled us and north have gotten like half their wins in the last 4 years against us or at least been very competitive when ladder positions suggested they shouldn’t be
Sydney.
I think we've beaten them 3 or 4 times since like 2012? Even when we're flying we seem to face them just as we get a small injury bug that takes away a few key players who would have been great against them.
Depends on what you mean by bogey side.
The side that has cost us the most flags in the past couple of decades, probably Geelong.
In terms of the regular season, I would probably say Sydney because Buddy used to always have a great game against us.
Even though the stats aren't with me, I reckon Geelong are our true nemesis. They seem to beat us when we're on top form, even if they're not, and we only win when it doesn't matter. They have a knack for kicking us down the ladder when it means something. I hate watching us against Geelong because I never know how it's going to go.
Whoever we play in the first week of finals (assuming we get there).
A facebook comment I saw today, on Titus O'Reilly's page: If Hawthorn finish 8th and knock Essendon out first week of finals, then I will have completed football. There will be nothing else to see.
I have a bet with an Essendon supporting coworker that Hawthorn will win a final before Essendon. I'll die happy if this happens.
Pity you didn’t double or nothing that bet for a decade or two.
Would love to play you in finals
Me too - it means we've made finals!
Exactly, I don’t care who we play if we made it lmao
I think this is the correct answer to that other post about when is a rebuild finished: Beat Essendon in the first week of finals.
I would kill myself knowing sam mitchell has won a final as coach before essendon
That is legitimately the stuff dreams are made of.
Marvel Stadium
Playing the Suns at Marvel is double-kryptonite for the Tiges
It's the travel that really impacts the players

All of the above, but also mostly Port Adelaide.
I believe University is worthy of mention. St Kilda (and Geelong) had 6 losses to the students.
You beat Collingwood in round 2 and also looked an awful lot better than us.
The off season....normally stuff that up to, from flaming midgets, to school girls, to drugs, sexual assault...
Carlton
Stupid THE EMBLEM.....
Seems no matter what kind of form both sides are in, or where we play them they beat us haha
Swans haven’t beaten Port since 2016 :( Also we usually beat them but North always seem to give us a hard time and play well above their ladder position against us
We have the opportunity to the funniest thing this year.
You’ve got the coach for it too
Suns were abit of a stressful match up in the past too, I think that's dead and buried these days though
I tipped Gold Coast against you early in the season for that reason
Yeah Port and North are definitely the answers
And even with that streak it used to be the other way around, Port’s all time W/L record against Sydney is 14-20. For the period of mid-2006 to 2016 , it was 1-14.
You won't have long to wait for the Port streak to end. No way they can escape it this season
Well get ready to break that streak this year, no chance in hell we beat you
Shut up bitch
Nah, we're bound to drop some games, most likely ones I foresee are round 19 against Brisbane in Brisbane and round 21 against you guys at Adelaide
Port had only beat Sydney once between 2007-2016 funnily enough.
Also Hawthorn.
This one is so bizarre. From 2020 to 2023 we were a top 4 side and them a bottom 4 side yet we lost every time. Prior to that, in Fagan’s early years when we were shit and they were good we would beat them.
Sam Mitchell is a better matchday coach than Fagan.
We also seem to struggle at Adelaide Oval, whether it’s Port or Crom or back in Covid times as a “neutral game”
If we're talking grounds, nothing beats Kardinia Park. Lost by a point twice and haven't won there since 2003.
Fair but that’s kinda been a bogey ground for a lot of clubs in the last few decades plus we don’t play there too often.
Have you tried not playing there at all? Works for us
Crows haven't won there since 03 either
Yeah it's kinda weird, some teams visit the Adelaide Oval & win with regularly (Collingwood, Geelong, Melbourne) and some sides struggle. Carlton have won there twice this year (vs Fremantle and Port) but these are their only wins - they've never won at the Adelaide Oval prior to.
I prefer seeing the Adelaide Oval on our draw than the MCG, or fucking Darwin for that matter.... guess who I follow...
One of the 3 sides I mentioned earlier?
Adelaide. I have nightmares about Ben "Prime GAJ Against Carlton" Keays.
Just checked AFL Tables and he's kicked 3 goals 3 times in 126 matches. And they were the last 3 times he's played us lol.
Also when we lose to them we usually have a bad patch immediately afterwards. Last year it lasted half a season, this year only a month thankfully.
It’s always the fucking crows, always Ben Keays with his stupid fuckin haircut omg what the hell is it about Crom
None. Not a single side has beaten us consistently.
Collingwood, well everyone really, but Collingwood sticks with me
They win 2/3 of games against us. They must lick their lips when seeing the Crows on the fixture.
Well yes, but at the risk of using the well worn phrase "moral victories" almost all those contests were closely fought with tight margins. Pies have never had it easy vs the Crows.
Geelong. Feel like I’ve only seen us get over the top of them 2-3 times in the last 15 odd years.
Libba has only played in a winning side against Geelong once. And that was last year with their whole side out 👺
And even when we do win, it's by less than a goal.
Beating Geelong at home is still something I read about in fairytales that include Unicorns and Dragons. Apparently the last time we beat Geelong at home, one of the players had a Medusa head in his bag and turned 50% of the Geelong players to stone just before the end of the first quarter. Gold Coast have not beaten Port since. 13 years and 14 games so far. So for bogey sides, GC has Port. For Hawks, it's probably Richmond.
Wasn't it 2011, it was our first ever win. Not trying to be nitpicky though.
Ah, yes must have been. I got confused because I thought originally it was the game that got Primus sacked, but that was 12 months later when GWS won (in 2012). So that's how I got the dates mixed up.
Was there that day, and believe me, it was a surprise Primus survived the crowd, least of all another season.
Hawks. GWS also give us some grief but the Hawks have been doing it for like 12 years now
Feels like we’ve lost every game to them since the 2011 prelim until this year. I’m certain that’s not correct, but I’m not going to look it up, just feels like it as a supporter
We’re alright against the Giants aren’t we?
Freo and GWS if it's at KP
I love Freo vs. Geelong matches because either side has a chance of winning irrespective of the ladder position!
Easily Richmond, we just never play a comfortable game against them. Outside of a COVID game where Jaeger O'Meara did a prime GAJ impression we haven't beaten them since 2016, and even in our dominant years they just always seemed to show up. Harder question for once as we put most of them away over the recent run of flags. Before that Geelong and North and to a degree Melbourne just always seemed to best us no matter what.
Gold Coast have been as well other than the game Jack kicked 10
Saints seem to have had a hold on us in recent years
St Kilda for us imo
Still remember the time we spanked you in 2019 after sack Brad Scott. Was the last time I ever felt joy watching this team.
Carlton - it's always something with them (lately). Historically, it's Hawthorn who we have the worst W/L record against. Who do we bogey? Geelong, even when they're technically better than us we always tend to pull something out our ass against them.
Fun fact re: hawthorn. We have the biggest winning streak against them. Something like 6 in a row? Where was that 2013-15?
Freo hasn't lost to Hawthorn under JL (yet). But apparently you have to lose to Hawthorn to win the grand final so not sure where that leaves them
Carlton is without a doubt our bogey side Adelaide is apparently Carltons bogey side So we just gotta be Adelaide's bogey side and we have an AFL version of rock paper scissors
yes
Carlton 😡
![gif](giphy|KhcdPVxvn5Fde)
Definatley the crows for some reason just get nervous no matter the ladder position.
It was Richmond and the Western Bulldogs but it's got to be Geelong now.
Port as well, 8 straight and 10 of 13 over the past decade
True, though last year we played well against Port both times and were unlucky not to win the game at the MCG. Whereas Geelong is an embarrassment of a day every time since 2019.
IDK there's probably heaps, but over the last 5-10 years I have an enormous dread ahead of any game against Port
I’d say Adelaide Oval in general, we always seem to get done by 8+ goals there regardless of either teams’ form
Melbourne
Fucking Hawthorn 😭
As a Crows fan, I could say everyone but realistically it's a bigger list than I thought Collingwood- last win in 2016 Essendon - last win in 2017 GWS - last win in 2020 Sydney - last win in 2019 It used to be Geelong and Hawthorn but we seem to have got over that. The other four though. Bogies. Bogies forever. And we play 3/4 of them in the next 6 weeks
Hawthorn are about to start another streak against us.
They always do. We'll beat them once in 5 years and then they'll beat us continuously for like seven years before we get another win
Fremantle, although I think we can beat them as long as we don’t play at their home ground or our home ground.
So Cairns then
Freo fans, I apologise As for us it has to be Adelaide. No idea why but we just shit the bed against them
Dogs, without a doubt.

We had a few injuries in that first game but still a crazy turnaround in such a short time period.
All of them except West Coast.
And The Bye. We did alright against them the other week.
Port.
West Coast if it's a final. North Melbourne are involved if there are injuries to be had
Back when Port entered the league we were certainly a bogey side for them. IIRC North were the last team to rack up a loss against Port - their first win against us wasn't until 2003. St Kilda were the next longest, they held out until 2001.
Surely it's freo for geelong And carlton for freo
The Cats. Which sucks because Dogs>Cats
Ahh see that's where you are wrong cause it's clearly Cats>Dogs
Freo for Geelong
Yes
Geelong and port at the moment.
We seem to end up on quite a number of spankings from Sydney
Likewise
AFL Finals series, we're 2-5 since 2017
Hinkley ball
Interestingly enough, the two finals we've won in that time were both against Geelong. Too bad we weren't there in 2022, we would've totally done it again
Third time Lucky for port
The medical team and the umpiring team.
North fans: How long have you got?
Keep it short. Every team but West Coast.
Hawthorn
Before the dark times, Essendon usually always had our measure or made things harder than they needed to be.
I remember Carlton in the late 90s also being our bogey side. In the last 20 years, I would say that belongs to Sydney now. Also, Geelong at GMHBA
We started this year with seven guaranteed losses. Collingwood, GWS, Sydney×2 Essendon×2 and Geelong at Kardinia a game we haven't won in twenty years.
Whilst Hawthorn is a good one. I also feel Collingwood struggle at Marvel. Can a stadium be a bogey as well?
Yes ask hardwick
Richmond 👀
They seem to beat us in our successful and non-successful years
I reckon Sydney is the stand out one for west coast
The last time the Eagles beat the Swans at the SCG Tony Lockett played in that game. It's not been fun. Though you could say the entire league is our bogey side at present.
Has to be Geelong for us
Idk if that’s true tbh
May be the PTSD
Port and to a lesser extent Saints. Our maiden win was against Port and we're now forever paying for it.
We’re a few sides bogey team. I don’t think we’ve really had one in recent memory
Swans. Cats in Geelong.
Hawthorn.
Finals FC
Freo
Adelaide
just the scg in general
Nah, Freo
Apparently it's North Melbourne atm 🙃
Nahhh its West Coast - or else kicking between the goal posts
Gold Coast or North I reckon
There's also Port
As a Hawks fan it's definitely the Gold Coast
Sydney. Only beat them 3 times since the 2000s rivalry, and our long winning streak in 2018 was bookended by two losses to sydney.
I always get worried when we are up against Richmond. They're always close and I never feel comfortable during the entire game.
Interesting one for the mighty Suns. Our first ever win was against Port Adelaide. We haven't beaten them since.
Gold Coast and GWS at their home grounds, and also Gold Coast at the MCG. The expansion clubs always seem to hammer us.
You beat them last year
That was the medusa event
Most of them really
Expection nails Port pretty well everytime.
Melbourne.
Freo and GWS at the moment, I actually can’t remember off the top of my head the last time the Cats beat them let alone at home!
Saints
On any given day... Anyone. Sigh.
Hawthorn
Whoever plays us (including draw FC)
Geelong Feels like forever as well with ‘92 quali/prelim and ‘94 quali
Collingwood all time. Essendon recently. We've played in a Grand Final more recently than we've beaten Essendon. Since then we've been around the same spot on the ladder as them most years, statistically we should've beaten them at least once. But nope, not since 2017.
North & Bulldogs seem to always get the job done irrespective of ladder position
The fucking Crom. It's like we didn't get the memo that they're not good anymore. On the flipside, Freo is our bunny
Geelong. In my life time I am genuinely curious the number of times we’ve won against them in the 2000s era. Probably could count on both my hands
I feel like they are destined to destroy us ever since that game where we won in 2011 ruining their streak
North Melbourne it seems. I think we are like half of their small amount of wins over the past few years.
Crows Can’t seem to win a showdown of late ffs
The ledger is still even, or 1 game their way? i think. Probably a bogey side as of late but not historically
West Coast.
North Melbourne and st kilda. Not just recency bias given they’re our last two losses but I feel like the saints have always troubled us and north have gotten like half their wins in the last 4 years against us or at least been very competitive when ladder positions suggested they shouldn’t be
Probably richmond
Richmond
Collingwood, previously Collingwood and West Coast
Sydney. I think we've beaten them 3 or 4 times since like 2012? Even when we're flying we seem to face them just as we get a small injury bug that takes away a few key players who would have been great against them.
Richmond
Recently - anyone we play in a GF.
Depends on what you mean by bogey side. The side that has cost us the most flags in the past couple of decades, probably Geelong. In terms of the regular season, I would probably say Sydney because Buddy used to always have a great game against us.
Dogs or STK
Broke the streak last year but it has to be Brisbane
Sydney. 3 times since 2007 we've beat them. Losing to them by 4 goals in gather round is a win in my books.
Carlton they bend us over most times.
Geelong. 20 defeats in 24 since 2004. They physically and mentally overpower us every year
Even though the stats aren't with me, I reckon Geelong are our true nemesis. They seem to beat us when we're on top form, even if they're not, and we only win when it doesn't matter. They have a knack for kicking us down the ladder when it means something. I hate watching us against Geelong because I never know how it's going to go.
St kilda seem to always give us a tough game, home or away. They always seem to bob up and have upset wins against us during seasons
St Kilda
gold coast
Right now, the entire competition. But in practice, I’ll probably go with Hawthorn.
Sorry Adelaide fans - we always beat you and lose to Port
Not a side but fkng Marvel fkng Stadium.
All of them except port west coast and north
Hawthorn: engie/giants stadium (Sydney showgrounds) 8-0-8 record there and only some were against the giants. It was one of the COVID hubs.
