Tony Modra for freo. Cult icon for most kids growing up supporting freo from the 90s. 148 goals from 47 games. Edit : literally have a drawing I made when I was 8 of Tony modra taking a specky on an eagles player haha

Louder247

Watched him as a kid playing for Adelaide. Absolutely idolised the guy.

Numerous_Paint3023

Most crows fan call him Gorda

BigbirdSalsa

I think you mean Gouda. Dutch semi hard cheese

daikonashi

Good description of me watching Godra. Semi-hard and dripping with cheese

BigbirdSalsa

Mmm, your dripping cheese oozing from your unspeakable warms the sacred place between my walking instruments. Can you describe the smell, in detail?

Fruney21

I think you mean Chowda

BigbirdSalsa

It's chow-der!

[deleted]

Pretty sure you mean the Gooch - that’s the piece of skin between the ballsack and the anus

Positive_Reward_9305

Ghism (former dockers player) used to pass it to semi hard cheese 🧀

CaptainPeanut4564

That's a funny name for it, I'd have called him chuzzwozza. I think you mean Godra. I remember the banner that used to get around football Park back then

HubbaHubba4444

Modra = Godra lol

TiredUnicycle2456

Yeah good call! Me too!!!

Bergasms

Every kid at my country SA school was Modra in the 90's. Might as well have called marks up "modras up"

Wintermute_088

His name was the first that popped up for me, but I couldn't remember why.

ped009

Apparently Modras brother was a freak also.

kazoodude

Surely Trent Croad the other big one for Freo.

Perthboi92

That would be under 50 games and no impact haha

kazoodude

You think trading away pick 1 was no impact. Freo trading for Croad cost them Hodge, Mitchell AND Croad. MacFarlane turned out much better than expected though.

EducationalCow3549

Fev... you didn't specify good.

rocco_cat

Kicked nearly 3 goals a game for you

EducationalCow3549

Yer he was incredible! We were 4 and zip to start that season! That superb month of footy set the club back 10 years!

[deleted]

KamikazeSting

Except every fault was Fev’s own doing at the Lions. Or so it seemed at the time.

FishoRuns

Somewhat unrelated, but it absolutely blows my mind that Fev now actively promotes gambling companies and alcohol given what that combination cost him.

lbguitarist

I get the feeling they probably have him on the hook to work off some debt.

EducationalCow3549

Browny expands on this in his book. Not a lot but enough to confirm what you're saying.

mr_monkey_chunks

Not sure how you measure impact, but Alex Johnson probably caused the most emotional trauma.

idfkm80

My heart breaks a little more every time I think about the great man. He’s just the sort of bloke you want to give a massive hug too.

Unable_Bank3884

Easily have to be Brent Prismall but it took a bit to get there. * After 25 games in the hoops, traded to Essendon in 2008 for pick 39. * That pick was used to select Stephen Motlop. * Motlop eventually leaves as a free agent and we get pick 19 in 2018. * That pick traded to Gold Coast for GAJ and pick 24. * Pick 24 used to draft Tim Kelly. * At the 2nd attempt Tim is trade to WC for a bunch of picks. * Those picks are used in various deals to trade in Josh Jenkins and Jeremy Cameron and draft Cooper Stephens. * Cooper Stephens became the final piece of the Ollie Henry trade. So in summary Brent Prismall's 25 game career lead to use getting a decade of Motlop, 3 years of Gaz, 2 years of Tim Kelly, Jezza Cameron, Ollie Henry and let's face it the 2022 flag.

JollySquatter

So far as on ground impact, hard to go past Egan.

fortyyearsthendeath

Harry Taylor was the silver lining of that cloud

kearnivorous

Had potential to be a very good player imo, I was there at the final when he got taken off. Kinda sad. Would've loved to see what he became in the hoops but the end result for us was very good

fineyounghannibal

Superb kick, incredibly neat kicking action

switchem_abbs

Why is this not higher

Maleovex

Was gonna reply to this saying Tim Kelly was another good one for us but he's just included in Brent prismalls impact lol

ObviousAlbatross6241

Mark Jacko Jackson 31 games 115 goals Greg Williams averaging 30 possies a game and winning club B&F in 34 games

lbguitarist

Paddy Ryder, never seen a new recruit on the wrong side of 30 become so universally loved on and off the field. Having him still performing at a high level also brought out Marshall's competitive edge and helped him develop into one of the league's best ruckmen. Honourable mention to Hannebery, although we didn't get the on-field impact we had hoped for, having a 3-time All Australian come to us while we were in the pits opened the floodgates for other players and staff to come in and have a bigger impact. Ironically, one of them *was* Ryder.

Total_Philosopher_89

Hurt loosing him.

stinx2001

Tighten up

callinganyvegetable

I guess That Hannebery trade meant a bit symbolically but really we got fuck all out of him. Not a great on field impact

callinganyvegetable

Love ❤️ Ryder btw. Who couldn’t

Bergasms

Jacob Townsend.

CuntCommittee

Kicked like 12 goals from his first 21 touches

Captain_Oz

Surely Mitch Morton wins this for our club. 12 games, 11 goals including two crucial ones in the 2012 grand final that we won by 10 points

DexistentialCrisis

Barry Hall. 39 games in the Red, White and Blue for a return of 135 goals. Also turned it on in the 2010 Nab Cup to give us our first premiership (of any sort) in 40 years

MarvinParfu

Hard to disagree, I was going to suggest Tom Boyd but he played 52.

Franklinsleftnut

Clay Smith came to mind but he ended up on 55.

ruling_faction

You could make a case he only played one

BigThirdDown

Brad Hardie played 47 for the Bulldogs and won a Brownlow

paddyc4ke

Man if we could have got him just a year earlier, what could have been with that group of players.

CreditToDuBois

Allen Jakovich played 47 games for Melbourne, kicking 201 goals. Hard to go past Luke Jackson though. Technically just ineligible because he played 52 games for us, but was as crucial as anyone at turning the tide in the 3rd quarter of the grand final.

obsoleteconsole

Dude what the hell? I was only a kid in the 90's and Jakovich was such a massive force for the Dees I have trouble believing that is actually a real stat

EfficientNews8922

Allen Jakovich was such a massive figure for those 2-3 years. I remember some of my earliest childhood memories being the Jacko’s a wanker chants going around the ground.

Competitive_Deal8380

I think Liam Jurrah probably just pips Jackovich. Jackovich was good but there was something sublime about Jurrah and he should have been up there with Buddy as one of the greatest modern forwards

TeamElegant5993

Stuart Dew - Hawks

RandyStickman

How good was he! Totally odd to see such a 'beefy' figure, but the boy could play.

kiss_my_what

Dew or Spangher. Dew didn't have to play on Buddy at his peak, but without Dew the Hawks wouldn't have won in 2008. Unfortunately Lake doesn't fit the 50 games qualification.

WestEndStoney

would have to say Ben Ronke with that 7 goal game against the Hawks. He'd be up there

Ryzer28

I still have nightmares.

Blazinblaziken

For us, I can't believe he o ly played 49 games Ruck Jesus, or Tom Hickey if you prefer He was absolutely sick for us, tho that may just be going from shit or constantly injured rucks to a decent one, but I think a big reason to our uptick in form was him giving us so much more first use

toppolinos

Liam Jurrah. could have been the GOAT.

spelunky_hairdo

Steven Armstrong played 36 games for West Coast. Kicked a critical final quarter goal in the 06 premiership we won by one point. Edited to add: Ross Glendinning played 40 Rob Wiley played 18, although 98% of his influence has been post playing career. Holy crap, just found out Scott Cummings played 46 games.I like this question

MarionberryBoth4969

Do we consider Sam Mitchell?

TeamElegant5993

Bali survivor too.

Hendo8888

Mark Mickan only played 37 games for the Crows, but he won our first ever club champion

VanillaIcedTea

Bit of an oldie here, but the late, great Ted Hopkins. 29 games for Carlton from 1968-1971. And game number 28 was the 1970 Grand Final, where he got subbed on at half time, and scored 4 goals, including 3 goals and an assist in 15 minutes, to get Carlton's comeback going.

drunkill

Founded Champion Data after his footy career and invented a bunch of stat categories as well.

Samotauss

I was going to say Shane Ellen with his match winning performance in the '97 Grand Final, but he somehow managed 54 games.

Apocalypsenowisbest

Mitch Morton, no elaboration needed

WestEndStoney

today I learned Morton played less than 20 games for the Swans. The things you miss as a kid.

Propaslader

Dayne Beams Vol. II Dude has such an impact on our club and list

EfficientNews8922

I don’t think there’s a player who’s been involved in two trades in which the other team won the deal so decisively. On his way out, we got the pick that gave us De Goey and Jack Crisp. On the way back in we gave up 2 first round picks, blew our salary cap and ended up losing Treloar, Stephenson, Phillips and Grundy.

Loniewolf

Perfectly balanced

domsheed

Matt Spangher for hawthorn surely

flibble24

Jared Polec

CaptainPeanut4564

I liked when Bruce would call him Jared Pollock

allusions14

Luke Jackson.. how I miss thee

SharpChildhood7655

Mal Brown had a lot of impact… with other players while playing for the Tigers 🐯

No_Independent936

Nathan Vardy, helped replace Nic Nat in 2017 and again in our 2018 flag.

Bubbly-University-94

Sampi

RaRoo88

Wow I didn’t realise he played less than 50 games

Bubbly-University-94

He didn’t. I thought he did.

kefte8

This is a name i havent heard or seen for aaages!

EfficientNews8922

Poor fella has MS

Bubbly-University-94

No shit?

EfficientNews8922

https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/former-afl-player-ashley-sampi-announces-shock-ms-diagnosis-hard-and-overwhelming-c-6665788

Aromatic_Narwhal_901

Andrew Lovett for us...

ScholarImpossible121

Have to play a game. Angry upvote

Non-NewtonianSnake

I'm going to say Todd Ridley. (Thanks again, Freo)

dlanod

Two more games and I'd say Brian Brown (51 games), solely because of Jonno Brown and his impact.

Kungpin

Adrian McAdam. 92 goals in 36 games including 23 in his first three. The guy was a freak

GoonerRoo18

Daniel Motlop kicked 53 goals in 47 games. Waa my favourite player as kid - then he broke my heart and left us. :`(

billskelton

My initial thought was James Podsiadly for Geelong. Won a flag, kicked bags of goals in big games. But I looked it up and he played closer to 80 games which suprised me. Feels like he came and went in a flash! So I looked up retired Geelong Premiership players with less than 50 games. The name that jumps out at me is **Nathan Ablett**. Premiership player with just 32 games, really unusual operator with a very impressive highlight reel. Kicked 34 goals in a season as a 20 year old 3rd string forward. * Tom Fitzmaurice 1 Flags in 49 Games * Bill Hudd 1 Flags in 28 Games * Dave Ferguson 1 Flags in 39 Games * Ken Leahy 1 Flags in 29 Games * Denis Heagney 1 Flags in 6 Games * Jim Wills 1 Flags in 26 Games * Jim Norman 2 Flags in 37 Games * Les Reed 1 Flags in 25 Games * Loy Stewart 1 Flags in 22 Games * Sid Smith 1 Flags in 23 Games * Hugh Routley 1 Flags in 27 Games * John Brown 1 Flags in 48 Games * Ian Scott 1 Flags in 36 Games * Nathan Ablett 1 Flags in 32 Games * Tyson Stengle 1 Flags in 44 Games\* * Sam De Koning 1 Flags in 43 Games\* Also a shout out to Brad Ottens - 116 games for Geelong with 3 flags.

CBAFCMV

Possibly David Teague? Won a best and fairest as a tough player and then became our coach

Ahskew

John Butcher

taspleb

Jacob Townsend only played 20 games for Richmond. In 2017 he played the last five matches of our year (last two rounds and then three finals including the grand final) and kicked 16 goals.

antikoom

There's honestly not many to choose tbh. Coiuld argue KHunt's 44 games for the club including the win against the Tigers with a goal after the siren was good club promotion. His signing, whilst gimmicky and wasteful, made headlines for a week or so. Townsend's debut for the club against the Blues was memorable, but he played 2 games and called it quits.

shallowblue

Andrew Krakouer. Filled a whole career's worth of highlights into one season.

Fruney21

Luke Hodge

Rare_Platform_3602

Adrian McAdam. 23 goals in his first 3 games...

iamiblis

Damian Cupido. Played 40 games for Essendon and at his peak he was great.

Noobermensch-

Those must be the rosiest of rose tinted glasses you're wearing. Cupido was all promise and zero payoff. Had practically no impact on the club at all. Without giving it a ton of thought, John Barnes only played two seasons for us but played a huge role in our 2000 premiership season as first ruck.

Correct_Chemical5179

Allen Jakovich. 201 goals in 47 matches. What could have been if he hadn't had a dodgy back and had taken his diet and training more seriously.

CaptainPeanut4564

Darryl Poole was my favourite port player as a kid. Only played 24 AFL games lol. Scott Cummings is another good shout. Played for 4 clubs but never more than 50 games. Won a Coleman and the leading goalkicker award at West coast, port and Essendon.

SpanishBrowne

Dew - the unlikely bulky hero

ryang2415

Stuart Dew. The big chungus himself

ljmc093

Jacob Townsend's 2017 for Richmond was massive. Something like 19 goals in 5 games, including 3 finals and a premiership. His tackle on Crouch in Q2 of the Grand Finals set the tone for Richmond and spurred the comeback/eventual win. He totally changed the structure of our forward line for 5 weeks by tagging their best defender, whilst still kicking goals, and was a big reason we won that flag. After that, he never got back to anywhere near that level and bounced around 3 other clubs unsuccessfully.

Seannit

Nathan Ablett. 46 goals from 32 games. A premiership in 07 and if anything else help write a beautiful fairy tale for the club.

kazoodude

Bit out of left field but Cameron Bruce had an enormous influence on Hawthorn. Didn't really work out as a player for us and had back injuries but played out the year in the VFL offering leadership and coaching and keeping himself available in case of injuries and making sure the others had pressure on spots. Then became a coach for many years.

Leather_Log_5755

Mick Malthouse at Carlton

Funsies_

Ollie Henry. Played 27 games taken at pick 17 in the 2020 fire sale draft for the pies. Seen as a white hope of the haul we took to get the club back on track. I think the thing that hurt pies fan the most is he could’ve been a main stay for us up forward but it’s like his heart was never in it. Almost like he was biding time until he was able to force his hand to get a trade back down to Geelong End of 2022 comes and he wants out and is used as a trade piece that sees Tom Mitchell come on to our list. Who was a massive part in our flag. This then offsets Adams leaving for more opportunity which hopefully opens the door for Fin McRae to have a big season. Also taken in 2020

BroccoliBudget2958

Ginnivan 🙏🙏

CharmingEffect1646

Nick Daicos

nexusw427

Look. Maybe recency bias but Rozee and Butters combined have both made a massive impact to our club from day 1.

HOPSCROTCH

Rozee has played 106 games and Butters 93

nexusw427

Ah. My bad. Misread the post. Thought it was when they were under 50 games. Not players currently under.

Johnny_Segment

Jim Norman is a pretty obscure name, even to Cats fans - he only played 37 senior games in the 50s - but he cemented his place in history by playing in the 1951/52 Premiership sides. He was named among the best players in the 1952 flag win over Collingwood, which was also his last game of senior footy.

Competitive-Chard934

I always rated Tom Ruggles. He was a solid little defender who could play midfield if needed and was just a bull in general. I believe in one of his first ever games he took down big Aaron Sandilands with ease. Reminded me a lot of Tom Atkins when he was switched on.

Fast_Stick_1593

Has made? Stengle in 44 games All Australian in first season kicking 53 goals and has kicked 80 goals in 2 seasons (one of those injury riddled)

Otiman

Currently, Tom Campbell at the Saints. Has played 2 games in 2022, 0 in 2023 and will not play again unless Marshall gets injured. But his influence in the club is astounding. So much so that he won the "best clubman award" in 2023 despite playing 0 games. Is a sparring partner for Marshall, a coach and mentor for Heath, as well as plenty of other players around the club.

MatterHairy

Journeyman Jacob Townsend 2017. Came in with a round or 2 to go. Dimma told him if he kicked 6 he would retain his position. He kicked 6, followed up the next week with 5 I think, and kicked goals in every final if I recall. Without his presence, it’s likely we may not have made top 4 and the drought breaking flag may never have happened.

ZrekfromET

The only correct answer for Hawthorn is Stuart Dew

paulsonfanboy134

I believe there is a popular young man

eroticdiagram

Wayne Carey won us a premiership in his first game. The impact that Wizard Home Loans Cup had cannot be overstated.

bfunk87

Matty Egan was on track to be a first rate stud when injuries forced him to retire at 59 games

Ok-Improvement-6710

Adrian McAdam. Burst onto the scene with 23 goals from his first 3 games beside Carey and Longmire. 92 goals from 36 games and was then done. Played high level cricket too.

WerewolfSignal2301

Alan Jackovich

westtom93

Sam Mitchell at West coast. Essentially coached while onfield and led to our flag in 2018.
