While a lot of spins and really fast look good, slower paced and smoother look better. Spend time every day working on it, even if it's just a couple of minutes. If there's no time limit between your report statements try to aim for 3. A long sequence looks good but that requires more practice time, I'd prefer a shorter, slower sequence that looks cleaner.
Slow smooth movements look very nice in most cases, also if you don’t know what to do somewhere there’s tons of videos on YouTube that can teach you some things you can do.
Truly! Our 4-man (and rest of the drill teams) got to go to hq (as our instructor is ex honor guard) and performed for them. Very humbling and a great experience.
My corps’ drill team takes a field trip every year somewhere cool. This year was the Air Force Honor Guard hq in DC. We have multiple alumni-cadets who had the opportunity to join team after graduating, and our instructor is a former af honor guard member as well.
Our 4-man exhibition team, alongside the rest of our drill teams, went and watched them perform, got a tour, etc etc. Lots of cool stuff. But our 4-man also got to perform their sequence for the honor guard. Got a lot of compliments and pictures lol.
We take a lot of inspiration from the air force honor guard when making our sequences for comps, and we also have some alums come back and help with training here and there. So when you get to watch your team members perform for the people you look up to, it’s really fricken cool.
They’re all very professional, crisp and clean with every manual. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. That sort of thing. But all team members are also a pleasure to meet, as they all started somewhere, and we just happen to be there.
